GENERAL
IIntroduction
This m nu l is solely intended to be used in conjunction with
folding nd rolling tower configur tions, herein fter c lled the
tower, s described in this ssembly nd use m nu l,
herein fter referred to s the m nu l.
Prior to st rting ssembly of the tower, you should c refully
re d this m nu l. The tower th t is required should be
ssembled nd used in ccord nce with this m nu l.
All instructions in this m nu l h ve to be strictly dhered to.
If the instructions cont ined in this m nu l re not followed,
ccidents m y rise. Altrex c nnot be held li ble for ny loss
resulting from the ssembly or use of n Altrex tower th t is
not in compli nce with the m nu l.
The employer, supervisor nd user re responsible for the
correct use of the tower in ccord nce with this m nu l nd
they must ensure th t this m nu l is v il ble t ll times
when work is being c rried out using the tower.
II General
For the st nd rd rolling tower configur tions we refer you to
the configur tions t ble included in this m nu l.
Towers m y only be ssembled, dis ssembled or modified
under the direction of n uthorised person nd by
employees who h ve received dequ te nd specific tr ining
for the intended work, in terms of the specific risks involved
which, in p rticul r, ddresses
underst nding the ssembly, dis ssembly or conversion
pl n of the tower in question;
s fely ssembling, dis ssembling or converting the tower
in question;
me sures in order to void the risks to individu ls or
objects;
s fety me sures in the event of ch nging we ther
conditions which could ffect the s fety of the towers in
question;
the llow ble lo d;
every other risk th t could rise s result of the
forementioned ssembly nd dis ssembly or conversion
work.
The individu ls responsible for the work nd the employees
involved in the work must h ve ccess to copy of this
m nu l.
Only origin l Altrex p rts should be used for ssembly.
The height to the first rung must be m ximum of 40 cm. If
the height is more th n 40 cm stirrup h s to be tt ched or
pl tform on the first rung.
The st nd rd Altrex tower configur tions meet the Europe n
St nd rd EN1004, lo d cl ss 3 (for strength nd st bility) nd
EN1298 (for M nu ls).
Loc l l w nd legisl tion might encomp ss me sures in
ddition to those st ted in this m nu l.
If possible, nd if it c n be chieved s fely, for ddition l
person l s fety, individu ls working on the ssembly should
secure themselves to the extern l w ll. Individu ls should not
secure themselves to the tower itself, unless the tower is
nchored to the w ll.
II.I Use
The Altrex 4000 tower is suit ble for working t heights.

Horizont l lo ds exceeding 30 kg resulting from the work
to be c rried out from the tower re not permitted. In the
event of signific nt forces, the tower should be nchored
to the w ll.
The tower m y only be used on horizont l, fl t nd solid
surf ces.
The tower m y not be used t wind speeds exceeding 14
m/s (m x. 6 Be ufort).
The tower m y not be used in the event of storm, snow,
ice, he vy r inf ll or lightning.
Hoisting or suspending the tower is not permitted.
The tower m y not be used in order to g in ccess to
other constructions.
The st nd rd configur tions re not c lcul ted on the use
of t rp ulins nd/or dvertising bo rds.
A tower should not be ble to slide w y or to m ke
movements th t re not intended.
II.II Additional instructions when using
towers
When working with towers, s fety shoes, working gloves
nd s fety helmet should be worn.
Never scend the tower on the outside nd never st nd
on the br ces.
Never r ise the height of the work pl tform through the
use of st irs, cr tes, etc. figure 1.
The b se dimensions of the pl tforms m y not be
incre sed in ny w y.
The use of hoisting ge r on or for the tower is not
permitted, figure 2; this c n seriously ffect the st bility.
Towering p rts nd tools m y only be brought up (to the
work floor) m nu lly, by using bucket nd rope for
ex mple.
If the tower is to be pl ced on soft surf ce, ground
protection pl tes or U-profiles should be pl ced
underne th the wheels, figure 3.
P rticul r ttention should be p id to the wind lo d in
re s th t re ffected by the wind, for ex mple, open
constructions nd t the corners of building. In the
event of wind force in excess of 14 m/s (m x. 6
Be ufort), plus t the end of the working d y, the rolling
tower must be moved to wind-free pl ce, figure 4.
No ddition l work pl tforms or other objects m y be
tt ched to the outside of the st nd rd tower.
St ges m y not be mounted between the tower nd
building.
The tower must not be out of the perpendicul r in excess
of 1%. Therefore, t height of 4 meters, the devi tion
m y not exceed 4 cm.

Use gu rdr ils when this is required from s fety or
legisl tive point of view.
Never le ve the tower unsupervised. M ke sure th t

The mixing of sc ffolding p rts of different br nds /
m nuf cturers is not permitted, s this end ngers s fety
bec use no strength nd st bility c lcul tion h s been
m de for th t mix configur tion.
The workpl ce round the tower h s to be cordoned off
using cones nd/or m rking t pe.
If required, tt ch the st bilizers. Use the correct st bilizers
with the corresponding pl tform height. It is not
oblig tory when less th n 2.5m but it is recommended
for work which involves signific nt horizont l forces.
M ke sure th t s fe working with the tower is lw ys
given priority.
A minimum of 2 people should lw ys be used to
ssemble tower, see figure 5.
II.III
Checklist for the use of towers
When n ssembled tower is (re)used, the following should
lw ys be checked:
1.
th t the tower is the correct one for the intended use;
2.
th t the immedi te vicinity in which the tower is
ssembled llows for s fe use;
3.
th t the tower c n still be used s fely;
4.
th t the qu lity of the surf ce is horizont l, fl t nd
sufficiently lo d be ring;
5.
th t the environment l f ctors, such s opening doors,
utom tic lly working sun blinds, boveground electric l
c bles, tr ffic nd/or p ssers-by, etc., do not le d to
d ngerous situ tions;
6.
th t there is sufficient free sp ce to be ble to ssemble
nd use the tower s fely;
7.
th t ll required p rts nd s fety tools re v il ble t the
workpl ce;
8.
th t no d m ged p rts or p rts other th n those
prescribed re used;
9.
th t the tower is ssembled in ccord nce with this
m nu l nd in conformity with the configur tion nd
b ll st t ble;
10.
th t the m ximum ssembly height is not exceeded;
11.
th t it is e sy to climb up the inside of the tower;
12.
th t the wheels re properly tt ched, ligned, nd th t
the br ke is pplied;
13.
th t the fr mes re properly ssembled nd secured;
14.
th t the horizont l nd di gon l br ces re ssembled
nd secured in the correct position;
15.
th t the st bilizers th t correspond with the permitted
pl tform height re ssembled correctly;
16.
th t the tower is perpendicul r(check using spirit level);
17.
th t the tower is st ble;
18.
th t the pl tforms re situ ted in the correct position nd
the wind security lock is secured in pl ce;
19.
th t there is rest pl tform t le st every 4 meter;
20.
th t the tower configur tion is inspected frequently (see
inspection sticker);
21.
th t ll locking pins re in pl ce in the construction nd
th t these re locked.
II.IV Inspection, Care and Maintenance
1.
Tower p rts must be h ndled nd tr nsported with c re,
in order to void d m ge.
2.
Stor ge should be org nised in such w y th t only
und m ged p rts, in the correct mounts, re v il ble
for ssembly of the tower.
3.
Check ll moving p rts for correct functioning nd to
ensure th t these re not cont min ted.
4.
Check ll p rts for d m ge. D m ged or incorrect p rts
m y not be used.
5.
D m ged p rts h ve to be returned to the m nuf cturer
for inspection.
6.
Towers for profession l use must be inspected nnu lly
for ny defects by n expert.
7.
The tower must be inspected g in before use nd in the
c se of n emergency such s storm etc.
II.V isassembly of the tower
The tower should be dis ssembled following the instructions
for ssembly but in reverse order.
II.VI Relocating the tower
In order to reloc te the tower the height h s to be
reduced to m ximum of 6.2 meter.
In order to reloc te the tower, the st bilizers h ve to be
r ised to m ximum of 10 cm.
The wheel legs re rele sed by pressing the br ke ped l.
When the tower is being
reloc ted, persons nd/or
m teri ls m y not rem in on the
tower (figure 6).
Beforeh nd, checks should be
m de th t the environment l
f ctors, such s opening doors,
c nopies, pits, utom tic lly functioning sun blinds,
boveground electric l c bles, tr ffic nd/or p ssers-by,
etc. do not pose the risk of d ngerous situ tions while
the tower is being reloc ted.
Only reloc te tower in the lengthw ys direction or in the
di gon l direction, m nu lly, over fl t, horizont l nd
sufficiently lo d-be ring surf ce. M ke sure th t the
tower does not st rt to sl nt during reloc tion.
Immedi tely fter reloc ting the tower, the wheel legs
h ve to be pplied nd locked, by pressing the br ke
ped l.

After reloc tion, the tower h s to once g in be
horizont lly ligned; this should be done using spirit
level.
Once g in djust ll of the st bilizers, so th t they re in
cont ct with the surf ce.
II.VII Assembly and/or repair of replacement
parts
Repl cement p rts supplied by Altrex must be fitted to the
correct Altrex product nd in the s me w y s the p rt th t is
repl ced. Assembly ( tt chment) nd/or rep ir is effectu ted
t the own risk nd expense of the client. Altrex is not li ble
for d m ge c used by incorrect ssembly nd/or rep ir.
Ag inst p yment, Altrex c n be c lled in for the rep ir of your
product, nd/or the ssembly of the p rts in question.
II.VIII Warranty Conditions
This Altrex product h s been designed, m nuf ctured nd
tested with the gre test c re. Should this product be used in
ccord nce with the instructions nd its intended use,
w rr nty will pply under the following conditions:
1.
Altrex gu r ntees the reli bility of the product nd the
qu lity of the m teri ls used for the product.
2.
We will rectify ny defects th t re covered by the
w rr nty by repl cing the defective p rt, or the product
itself, or by supplying p rt for repl cement.
3.
Not covered by the w rr nty re ny defects th t occur s
result of the following:
) Use of the product contr ry to its intended use or
contr ry to the instructions for use.
b) Norm l we r nd te r of the product.
c) Assembly or rep ir by the client or by third p rties
(with the exception of fitting the sp re p rts provided by
Altrex s indic ted bove under point 2).
d) Any modified government l regul tions concerning
the n ture or qu lity of the m teri l used in the product.
4.
Any defects th t re found upon the delivery of the
product should be reported immedi tely to Altrex.
Should notific tion of these defects not t ke pl ce
immedi tely, the w rr nty will be null nd void. To m ke
cl im under the w rr nty, Altrex or your Altrex de ler
h s to be provided with the proof of purch se.
5.
Any defects of the product h ve to be reported to Altrex
or your Altrex de ler s soon s possible, but in ny c se
within 14 d ys of the defect being found.
6.
) Should cl im be m de under the w rr nty
conditions, Altrex h s to h ve the opportunity to be
ble to investig te the product in its Qu lity Centre
The client must m ke the product v il ble for this
purpose. Should it be est blished during the
investig tion th t the product h s been used
incorrectly, the costs of the investig tion will be
ch rged to the client.
b) Should the client sk for n investig tion to be
c rried out by n independent institute, the costs for
this investig tion re t the expense of the client
should it be est blished during the investig tion
th t the product h s been used incorrectly. The costs
of the investig tion re lso t the expense of the
client if, prior to this investig tion, Altrex offered to
rep ir or to repl ce the product t no ch rge to the
client.
II.IX Assembly of the toe boards
Assemble the toe bo rds ccording to the di gr m.
II.X Securing the frames
Secure the fr mes with the locking pins.

III.II Method of assembly rolling tower 4100
1.
Fit the wheels in the b se fr mes or in the 4 rung fr me in
the event of uneven pl tform heights.
2.
Connect the b se fr mes by using 2 horizont l br ces.
Assemble the horizont l br ces, working from the inside
to the outside nd under the 1
st
rung to the uprights of
the fr mes. In the event of uneven pl tform heights:
pl ce two 7 rung ssembly fr mes nd secure with the
locking pins supplied.
3.
Then pl ce two di gon l br ces in cross between the 2
nd
nd the 6
th
rung of the b se fr me, one on the left nd
one on the right side of the fr me. Pl ce pl tform with
tr pdoor on the first rung of the b se fr me. In the event
of uneven pl tform heights, pl ce pl tform with
tr pdoor on the upper rung of the 4 rung fr me. St nd on
the pl tform nd then position two di gon l br ces
between the 2
nd
nd 6
th
rung of the 7 rung ssembly
fr me.
Align the wheels so th t they point outw rds. Lock the
wheels by pushing down the br ke ped l. Then set the
b se fr me horizont lly in the length nd width direction
using spirit level on the bottom rung nd horizont l
br ce.
For a configuration with a platform height of 2.2 meter
follow step 4, 5, and 6.
4.
St nd on the underlying pl tform nd tt ch 2 gu rdr il
fr mes to the b se fr me of the rolling tower. Secure the
gu rdr il fr mes with the locking pins. Then, ssemble
the knee br ces, working from the inside to the outside,
g inst the uprights of the gu rdr il fr mes.
5.
Subsequently reposition the pl tform with tr pdoor to the

th
rung of the (b se) fr me. Sit through the pl tform
tr pdoor nd ssemble the top two gu rdr il br ces
working from the inside to the outside g inst the
uprights of the gu rdr il fr mes.
6.
Att ch the toe bo rds (see II.IX).
The rolling tower is now re dy for use for pl tform
height of up to 2.2 meter.
For a configuration with a platform height of 3.2 meter
follow step 7, 8, and 9.
7.
From the pl tform, position the 2 gu rdr il br ces on the
ssembly fr me. Secure the gu rdr il br ces with the
locking pins. Position pl tform with tr pdoor on the 7th
rung of the ssembly fr me. Assemble the 4 st bilizers on
the corners of the tower t n ngle of bout 120° to the
longitudin l ccess of the tower. Att ch the couplers of
the st bilizers to the uprights under the 2
nd
nd 7
th
rungs.
M ke sure th t the end of e ch st bilizer is in cont ct
with the solid surf ce nd secure the st bilizer. Position
the lower rm of the st bilizer pproxim tely horizont l,
secure the coupling nd check the 120° ngle.
8.
Sit through the pl tform tr pdoor nd ssemble the
gu rdr il br ces working from the inside to the outside
g inst the uprights of the gu rdr il br ces. Att ch the
toe bo rds(see II.IX).
9.
The lower pl tform must be removed before the tower
c n be used. Then pl ce 2 di gon l br ces in cross
between the 2
nd
nd 6
th
rung.
The tower is now re dy for use.
Further assembly of 7 rung frames to a platform height of
4.2 meter.
10.
Assume the b se fr me described in step 3. Att ch the 4
st bilizers to the corners of the tower, t n ngle of
pproxim tely 120° to the longitudin l xis of the tower.
Att ch the couplers of the st bilizers to the uprights
under the 2
nd
nd the 7
th
rung of the fr mes. M ke sure
th t the end of e ch st bilizer is in cont ct with the solid
surf ce nd secure the st bilizer. Position the lowermost
rm of the st bilizer pproxim tely horizont lly,
ssemble the st bilizers securely nd check the ngle of
120°.

b se fr me of the rolling tower. Secure the fr mes with
the locking pins.

Then pl ce two di gon l br ces in cross between the 2
nd

on the 7

rung of the fr me. Then sit through the

For tt ching the gu rdr il fr mes nd the toe bo rds
follow step 4, 5, nd 6 g in.
14.
The pl tform in between c n be removed before the
tower c n be used.
He tower is now re dy for use.
Further assembly of 7 rung frames to a platform height of
5.2 meter and 7.2 meter.
15.
Assume the (uneven) b sic configur tion from step 3.
Assemble the 4 st bilizers on the corners of the tower t
n ngle of bout 120° to the longitudin l ccess of the
tower. Att ch the couplers of the st bilizers to the
uprights under the 2
nd
nd 7
th
rungs. M ke sure th t the
end of e ch st bilizer is in cont ct with the solid surf ce
nd secure the st bilizer. Position the lower rm of the
st bilizer pproxim tely horizont l, secure the coupling
nd check the 120° ngle.

From the pl tform, pl ce two 7 rung fr mes. Secure the
fr mes with the locking pins supplied. Pl ce pl tform
with tr pdoor on the 7

rung. Sit through the pl tform
tr pdoor nd pl ce horizont l br ces on both sides on
the 2
nd
nd 4
th
rung bove the pl tform. From the
pl tform, position the 2 gu rdr il fr mes on the ssembly
fr me. Secure the gu rdr il fr mes with the locking pins.
17.
Position pl tform with tr pdoor on the 7th rung of the
ssembly fr me. Sit through the pl tform tr pdoor nd
ssemble the gu rdr il br ces working from the inside to
the outside g inst the uprights of the gu rdr il br ces.
Att ch the toe bo rds, see II.IX.
18.
The lower pl tform must be removed before the tower
c n be used. Then pl ce 2 di gon l br ces in cross
between the 2nd nd 6th rung of the b se fr me.
The tower is now re dy for use.
Further assembly of 7 rung frames to a platform height of
6.2 and 8.2 meter.
You will need 2 platforms with trapdoors. If applicable use
a rope for hoisting parts.
19.
Repe t step 11 nd 12 until the desired pl tform height is
re ched. Assemble the gu rd r iling by following step 4,
5 nd 6.
The tower 4100 is now re dy for use.

IV.III Method of assembly 4200 rolling tower
The tower c n be used in two different configur tions with
the 4200:
1/2: Every two meters one pl tform without
tr pdoor, firstly one long the long side, then
one long the other side.
2/4: Two pl tforms every four meters t le st one of
which with tr pdoor.
1.
Fit the wheels in the b se fr mes or in the 4 rung fr me in
the event of uneven pl tform heights.
2.
Connect the b se fr mes by using 2 horizont l br ces.
Assemble the horizont l br ces, working from the inside
to the outside nd under the 1
st
rung to the uprights of
the b se fr mes. In the event of uneven pl tform heights,
pl ce two 7 rung ssembly fr mes nd secure these with
locking pins.
3.
In the event of even pl tform heights, tt ch two di gon l
br ces on one side of the tower, in cross between the
2nd nd the 6th rung of the b se fr mes. Then pl ce
pl tform without tr pdoor on the 3rd rung of the b se
fr me on the side of the di gon ls. Then tt ch two
di gon l br ces on the other side of the b se fr me, in
cross between the 2nd nd the 6th rung of the b se
fr mes.
4.
Align the wheels so th t they point outw rds. Lock the
wheels by pushing down the br ke ped l.
Then set the b se fr me horizont lly in the length nd
width direction using spirit level on rung nd
horizont l br ce.
5.
In the event of uneven pl tform heights, tt ch 2 di gon l
br ces in cross to one side of the tower between the
2nd rung of the 4 rung fr me nd the 2nd rung of the
fr me. Then pl ce pl tform without tr pdoor on the 1st
rung of the 4 rung fr me on the side of the di gon ls.
St nd on the pl tform nd then position two di gon l
br ces in cross between the 2nd nd 6th rung of the
fr me. On the other side of the tower, pl ce 2 di gon l
br ces in cross between the 2

uprights under the 2nd nd 7th rungs. M ke sure th t the
end of e ch st bilizer is in cont ct with the solid surf ce
nd secure the st bilizer. Position the lower rm of the
st bilizer pproxim tely horizont l, secure the coupling
nd check the 120° ngle.
For a tower with a platform height of 2.2 meter follow step
7 to 10.
7.
St nd on the pl tform nd tt ch 2 gu rdr il fr mes to the
b se unit of the rolling tower. Secure the gu rdr il fr mes
with the locking pins. Subsequently, tt ch the horizont l
br ces onto the uprights of the gu rdr il fr mes, working
from the inside to the outside.
8.
Pl ce pl tform with tr pdoor on the 7
th
rung of the
(b se) fr me.
9.
Move the lowest pl tform without tr pdoor to the highest
level s well.
10.
Assemble the toe bo rds ccording to II.IX.
The rolling tower is now re dy for use for pl tform
height of up to 2.2 meter.

Follow steps 7 to 10.
For further assembly to platform heights of 4.2 meter
follow steps 12 t/m 16.

Att ch 4 st bilizers to the corners of the rolling tower, t
n ngle of pproxim tely 120° to the longitudin l xis of
the rolling tower. Att ch the couplers of the st bilizers to
the uprights, under the 2nd nd the 7th rungs of the b se
fr me. M ke sure th t the end of e ch st bilizer is in
cont ct with the solid surf ce nd secure the st bilizer.
Position the lowermost rm of the st bilizer
( pproxim tely) horizont lly, ssemble the st bilizers
securely nd check the ngle of 120°.

If needed (see b ll st t ble t VI) tt ch the b ll st to the 4
uprights of the b se fr me using the b ll st holders.

b se fr me of the rolling tower. Secure the b se fr mes
with the locking pins.

Repeat the steps 14, 15 and 16 until the desired platform
height (5,2 meter, 6,2 meter, 7,2 meter, 8,2 meter, 9,2
meter, 10,2 meter, 11,2 meter of 12,2 meter) is reached.
Then follow steps 7 to 10 for the placing of the guardrail
frames and the braces and then continue with step 17 in
order to prepare the tower for use. If applicable use a rope
for hoisting parts.
17.
The pl tforms in between re now still in position to
ensure s fety during ssembly. The tower c n be set up
in two configur tions, 1 pl tform st ggered every 2
meters (1/2 configur tion) or two pl tforms next to e ch
other every 4 meters (2/4 configur tion).

The pl tforms in between, including the horizont l br ces
h ve to be moved before the tower c n be used. For the
djusting of the pl tforms t different configur tions
