1 General Information
Information about safety regulations, copyrights, protection rights, symbols,
usage location conditions, notes on resistance welding and contact addresses
can be found in the annex of the operating instructions.
Please read this information carefully before making yourself familiar with these
device specific instructions.
1.1 Device-Specific Hints for Operation
These Device-Specific Operating Instructions should help you familiarize yourself
with the pneumatic unit and take advantage of its application possibilities when used as
directed.
Observing the notes will help avoid risks, decrease repair costs and down times, and
enhance reliability and the service life of the unit.
2 Technical Description
2.1 Pneumatic Pressure Control VLP
The pneumatic pressure control VLP serves as adjustment for the electrodes and for
electrode force control of an air operated weld head.
The regulation of the weld force is performed by a proportional valve.
The quality of compressed air has a decisive effect on the length of the service life
of the unit.
Please operate the unit for this reason with clean, dry and oil-free air. Units should
also be equipped with a pneumatic maintenance unit with an air filter (8µm) and
water separator.
Caution
2.2 Pneumatic Pressure Controls VL, VL40, VL60
The pneumatic pressure controls VL, , VL40 and VL60 serve as adjustment for the
electrodes of air operated weld heads.
They differ in valve size.
Connected with motor weld head it serves for locking the pincers and moving the stroke
unit.
Use the unit only with dry and oil free air and with a line pressure of 6 bar.

3 Setting into operation
If you apply a low welding pressure with high welding current, sparkling of the work
pieces can appear.
Therefore use protecting spectacles and protective dressing.
Always adjust the welding pressure to avoid possible sparkling.
Warning
3.1 Setting into operation VLP
In case of frequent line pressure fluctuation it is recommended to use a pressed air
boiler.
Install prior to the air control a maintenance unit with air filter and water separator.
Please use a counter-thread appropriately the connected rated width
(3 = 1/8"; 6 = 1/4"; 12 = 1/2") and a suitable air-pressure hose.
(NW3 = G1/8“; NW6 = G1/4“; NW12 = 1/2“).
Example:
Air-pressure hose for G1/4" with 10 0,1 mm ( 0,1mm diameter)
3.2 Setting into operation VL, VL40, VL60
The closing pressure regulator enables a controlled closing stroke of the electrode.
Pull the regulator knob to release the turn locking. Select the closing pressure to insure
that the electrode drops smoothly on the work pieces.
If you need a higher closing pressure for your welding application, e. g. for pre-pressing
the work pieces, you can reduce the closing speed of the electrode by the closing
throttle to insure that the electrode drops smoothly on the work pieces.
The selected pressures can be locked by pressing down the regulator knobs.
The selected closing speed can be locked by the lock nut
The closing throttle can be fixes by the lock nut.
The counter (Option) registers the switching of the welding pressure valve.

4.1 Purification and Maintenance
Operate the unit only with line supply presssure of at least 6 bar!
Caution
The air filter should be purified in regular time intervals. For the cleaning only neutral
cleaners (warm soap water) must be used.
The polycarbonate-container is not allowed in any case to come in touch with synthetic
oils, diluents, trichloroethylene, kerosene or other aromatic carbohydrates.
Switch off the air inlet and release the pressed air. By anti-clockwise turning the
container can be unscrewed. In the same manner the separating cup can be removed
from the filter carrier. The filter element (5 µm) and the filter protection drop out.
The filter element must be changed if the pressure drop over the unit reaches 1 bar, but
latest after one year.
During re-assembly insure for centric position of the seals.
The air filter unit should be emptied in regular time intervals at least before the
condensation water reach the separator.
Therefore you have to press the drain nipple. Collect the water flowing away and/or lead
it away
