Handling the
Polyethylene Hose
UV resistant, medium density, polyethylene
hose is a durable product that will operate
reliably for many years if handled properly
and given a reasonable amount of care.
Unlike a rubber hose or hose with a woven
jacket (one that lies flat), polyethylene is a
semi-rigid product that retains its shape even
when not pressurized. This characteristic
makes it feasible to pump water through the
hose even when it is rolled up on a reel.
Simple precautions will help you to prevent
damage to the hose when
operating your
Reel Rain Jr. Always remember the
following:
•
When you start a new Reel Rain Jr. for
the first time, it is important that the hose
be pulled out nearly all the way in order
to tighten the new hose on the spool.
•NEVER transports the Reel Rain Jr. with
the
pawl disengage rod in the up
position! The irrigation hose will become
loose and tangled.
•
Do NOT attempt to operate the Reel
Rain Jr. if there are any coils of hose that
are loose or misplaced.
•If loose coils of hose are noticed after the
hose is pulled out
, they must be
tightened by rotating the spool by hand.
If this is not possible, pull all of the hose
out before you attempt to rewind the
hose.
•NEVER try to relocate the Reel Rain Jr. if
the
hose is not fully rewound on the
machine.
•NEVER pull the hose off of the machine
other than by using the sprinkler cart,
straight out from the machine.
•NEVER run over the hose with any kind
of vehicle and avoid pinching or pulling
the hose around objects.
•NEVER bend the hose sharper than 25
times the diameter of the hose.
•
Be careful when operating other
equipment near the hose
to avoid
gouging or puncturing the hose.
REMEMBER that the polyethylene hose is
semi-
rigid and can be kinked very easily.
F
ollowing the precautions described above
will reduce the possibility of kinking or
damaging your hose. Note that through the
irrigation industry, the words “tube” and
“hose” are used interchangeably in
connection with hard hose traveling
machines.
