CODING USING AMERI-KING BEACON MESSAGE ENCODE PROGRAM
(BMEP)
Beacon Message Encode Program (BMEP) is Ameri-King’s proprietary software used solely for
the purpose of encoding and decoding ELT hex codes. Please read the accompanied End-User
License Agreement for all the terms and conditions before you start using BMEP.
You can, alternatively, encode/decode your hex codes manually if need be. Please read the
examples 1 to 18 for detail.
How to install the software:
1. Double click on “setup.exe”
2. Click “Next”

3. Choose a location for the installation, or just leave it as is
4. Click “Next”

5. Wait for the installation to finish
6. Click “Close”

Run the software for first time:
1. Click on START ÆPrograms ÆPLK Solutions ÆBMEP ÆBMEP (by default)
2. You will be prompted to enter your company’s name and the Key.

3. Upon successful Licensing activation, you will see the program.
How to use BMEP:
1. There are a total of 5 protocols supported in this software. They are as follows:
1 - Non-Location, Serial User Protocol: Beacon Serial Number (Short message)
2 - Non-Location, Serial User Protocol: Aircraft 24-bit address (Short message)
3 - Non-Location, Aviation User Protocol: Aircraft Tail No./Registration Marking (Short
message)
4 - Standard-Short Location Protocol: Aircraft 24-bit address (Short message)
5 - Standard Location Protocol: Type Approval No. and a Serial No. (Long mssg.)
Please choose the appropriate protocol for your application.

2. For demonstration purposes, let’s say you choose 1 - Non-Location, Serial User
Protocol: Beacon Serial Number (Short message). You should get the screen below:
3. Enter your desired Country Code (default is 369 – United States of America)
4. Enter the Serial Number you want to assign
5. Click “Process”
6. It should look something like this:
NOTE: The “C/S Number or National Use (bit 43 refers):” value should always be 179,
unless specifically instructed otherwise by your local Aviation Authority.

ELT CODING PROGRAMMING, ID READER AND MAINTENANCE TEST
Important Note: These tests should be performed only within an RF Screen Room or
Facility providing shielding of RF Emissions.
Ameri-King Test Set should include the following:
•2 cables: USB to DB9/Serial cable (“Cable 1”) (gray color) and DB9/Serial to RJ12
(“Cable 2”) (white color)
•“Software CD” containing the driver for Cable 1 along with other documents
pertaining our ELT Model AK-451
1. Setup
Windows XP:
a. Install the driver for Cable 1 by running:
Serial to USB Cable Driver ÆWin XP Driver Installer.exe
b. After the installation is finished, connect the USB port on Cable 1 to the computer
c. Connect Cable 1 to Cable 2 via the DB9/Serial port
d. Next, you must verify the COM port currently in use by Cable 1. To do this, go to:
Start ÆControl Panel ÆSystem ÆHardware ÆDevice Manager
Look at Ports (COM & LPT) ÆProlific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COMx), where
xis a numeral value. For this example, Cable 1 is using COM4 port.

Windows Vista and Windows 7:
a. Install the driver for Cable 1 by running:
Serial to USB Cable Driver ÆWin Vista and 7 Driver Installer.exe
b. After the installation is finished, connect the USB port on Cable 1 to the computer
c. Connect Cable 1 to Cable 2 via the DB9/Serial port
d. Next, you must verify the COM port currently in use by Cable 1. To do this, go to:
Start ÆControl Panel ÆDevice Manager

2. Run the Hyper Terminal program for the first time
a. Go back to the Software CD Ædouble click “AK451 Hyper Terminal (Win XP, Win
Vista, and Win 7)” Æclick on COM4 Æclick on Connect
(All other perimeters must be the same as below.)

b. When the ELT is connected and the Main Switch is at ARM position, the following
should display:

3. ELT Coding Programming
3.1 Set the ELT main switch to “ARM” position
3.2 The “ON” LED light should be on for 4 seconds.
3.3 Within 20 seconds, type the password then press “Enter”
Note 1: Please contact Ameri-King via email, fax or phone for the password.
Note 2: If there is no input within 20 seconds, the ELT will enter the Self-Test mode, and you
cannot program the ELT. In this case, set the ELT switch to “OFF” and start over.

3.4 To program ELT:
Short message (22-digit hex), type 06 -22 xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Enter
Long message (30-digit hex), type 06 -30 xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Enter
where xxxxxxxxxxxxxx is the Hex code (see Figure 2 and Figure 3).
