PRODUCT WARRANTY
AnalyticalTechnology,Inc.(Manufacturer) warrantstothe Customerthatifanypart(s)
ofthe Manufacturer'sproductsprovestobe defectiveinmaterialsorworkmanship
withinthe earlierof18 monthsof the dateof shipmentor12monthsof the dateofstart-
up,suchdefectivepartswillbe repaired orreplacedfreeofcharge.Inspectionand
repairstoproductsthoughttobe defectivewithinthewarrantyperiodwillbe completed
atthe Manufacturer's facilitiesinCollegeville,PA. Productson whichwarrantyrepairs
arerequired shall be shippedfreight prepaidtothe Manufacturer. The product(s)willbe
returnedfreightprepaidandallowed ifitisdeterminedbythe manufacturerthatthe
part(s)failed duetodefectivematerialsorworkmanship.
Thiswarrantydoesnotcoverconsumableitems,batteries,orwearitemssubjectto
periodicreplacement includinglampsand fuses.
Gassensors,exceptoxygen sensors,arecovered bythiswarranty,butaresubjectto
inspectionforevidenceofextended exposuretoexcessivegasconcentrations.Should
inspectionindicatethatsensorshavebeen expended ratherthan failed prematurely,the
warrantyshall not apply.
TheManufacturerassumesno liabilityforconsequentialdamagesofanykind,and the
buyerbyacceptanceofthisequipmentwill assumeall liabilityforthe consequencesof
itsuseormisusebytheCustomer,hisemployees,orothers.Adefectwithinthe
meaningofthiswarrantyisanypartofanypieceofaManufacturer's productwhich
shall,when suchpartiscapableofbeingrenewed,repaired,orreplaced,operateto
condemnsuchpieceofequipment.
Thiswarrantyisinlieu ofall otherwarranties(includingwithoutlimitingthe generalityof
the foregoingwarrantiesofmerchantabilityand fitness foraparticularpurpose),
guarantees,obligationsorliabilitiesexpressed orimpliedbythe Manufacturerorits
representativesandbystatuteorruleof law.
Thiswarrantyisvoidifthe Manufacturer's product(s)hasbeen subjecttomisuseor
abuse,orhasnotbeen operated orstoredinaccordancewithinstructions,orifthe
serialnumberhasbeenremoved.
AnalyticalTechnology,Inc.makesnootherwarrantyexpressed orimpliedexceptas
statedabove.

Part 1 - Introduction
1.1General
TheModelQ46P providescontinuousmeasurementofpHinaqueoussystems.
It issuitableforpotablewater,wastewater,and awide varietyofprocess water
applications.Q46Pmonitorsmaybe used withQ25P“differential” pHsensorsor
avarietyofconventional“combination”pHsensors.
Monitorsareavailableintwoelectronicversions,auniversalACpowered
monitorforoperationfrom90-260VACanda12-24VDC unit. Both versions
provide two4-20 mA analogoutputsand3SPDTrelays. One analogoutputmay
be configuredforPIDcontrolandoneoftherelaysmaybe configured toprovide
aremotetroubleindication.
TheQ46P isavailablewithafewoptionstoexpandthe capabilitiesofthe
monitor.Usersmayselecteitherathirdanalog4-20 mAoutputoran expansion
cardthatprovidesthree additionallowvoltageSPSTrelays.The expansion
relaysarenot isolatedfromeachother.
Thismonitoralsoprovidesdigitalcommunication capability.Usersmayorder
Q46 systemswitheitherProfibusDP, ModbusRTU,orEthernetcommunications
boardsfactoryinstalled.

ModelQ25P“differential” pHsensorsarethemostcommonlyused sensorswith
the Q46P monitor.The differentialdesignutilizesasecond glass measuring
electrodecontainedinaninternalbufferasthereferenceelement. This
eliminatestheneed forasilver/silverchloridereferenceusedinconventionalpH
sensordesigns.It isdesigned toperforminthe harshestofenvironments,
includingapplicationsthatpoison conventionalpHsensors.All sealsaredual
o-ringusingmultiplesealingmaterials.
Q25P sensorsareavailablewithachoiceoftwoglass types.Forthe most
demandingindustrialapplications,P1 glass shouldbeused.Thisglass isthicker
and willlastlongerinhighertemperatureand pressureapplications.Onthe
otherhand,P1glass hasaveryhighimpedanceand isnotsuggested forusein
verycoldapplications. P2glass isagood generalpurposeglass that isbetterfor
drinkingwater,wastewater,and lowtemperatureindustrialapplications.This
glass issomewhatthinnerwithlowerimpendenceand can handlecoldwater
moreeasily. Notethatthe salt bridgeisdifferentforthesetwosensors.
1.6Sensor Features
·Ahighvolume,dualjunction saltbridgetomaximizethe in-servicelifetimeof
the sensor.The annularjunction providesalargesurfaceareatominimize
the chanceoffouling.Largeelectrolytevolumeand dualreferencejunctions
minimizecontamination. Thesaltbridgeisreplaceable.
·An integralpreamplifierencapsulatedprovidesalowimpedancesignaloutput
whichensuresstablereadingsinnoisyenvironments.Sensortotransmitter
separation can be up to3,000feet (914meters).
·Pt1000RTD.ThetemperatureelementusedinATIsensorsishighly
accurateandprovidesahighlylinearoutput.
·Availableinvariousconfigurationsincludingsubmersible,flowtype withquick

·Theglass electrode mustbe wetted atall timestoensureproperfunctionality.
Q25Psensorsareshippedwithafluid-filled cap overthe electrode toenable
immediateuse(removecap beforeinstalling,saveforstorageand shipping
purposes).Electrodesthathavedriedoutforanyreasonshouldbehydrated
for24 hourstorestorefull functionality.
·Hydrofluoricacid(HF)will dissolveconventionalglass electrodes.For
applicationsinvolvinghydrofluoricacid,apHsensorwithantimonyelectrode
isrecommended.
NOTE:ThestandardQ25P process electrodeismadeofglass and can breakif
nothandledproperly.Shouldthe electrode everbreak,USECAUTION
when handlingthe sensortoavoidseriouscuts.

2.1General
All Q46Seriesinstrumentsprovide formountingflexibility.Abracketisincluded
thatallowsmountingtowallsorpipes.Inall cases,choosealocation thatis
readilyaccessibleforcalibrations.Alsoconsiderthatitmaybe necessaryto
utilizealocation wheresolutionscanbe usedduringthe calibrationprocess.To
takefull advantageofthehighcontrastdisplay,mounttheinstrumentina
locationwherethedisplaycan beviewed fromvariousanglesand long
distances.
Locatethe instrumentincloseproximitytothe pointofsensorinstallation -this
will alloweasyaccessduringcalibration.The standardcablelengthofthepH
sensoris15feet. Forsensorcableslongerthan 30 feet,usethe optional
junctionbox(07-0100)and sensorinterconnect cable(31-0057).

2.2Wallor PipeMount
APVCmountingbracketwithattachmentscrewsissuppliedwitheach
transmitter.Themulti-purposebracketisattachedtotherearofthe enclosure
usingthe fourflathead screws.Theinstrumentisthen attachedtothe wall using
the fouroutermountingholesinthe bracket. Theseholesareslotted to
accommodatetwosizesofu-boltthatmaybe used topipe mountthe unit. Slots
will accommodateu-boltsdesigned for1½“or2”pipe.The actualcenterto
centerdimensionsforthe u-boltsareshowninthedrawing.Notethattheseslots
areforu-boltswith¼-20 threads.The 1½”pipe u-bolt(2”I.D.clearance)is
availablefromATI intype 304 stainless steelunderpartnumber(47-0005).

2.3Panel Mounting
Panelmountingusesthe panelmountingflangemoldedintothe rearsection of
the enclosure.Figure5providesdimensionsforthepanelcutoutrequired for
mounting.
Thepanelmountingbracketkitmustbe ordered separately(partnumber05-
0094).Thiskitcontainsametalretainerbracketthatattachestothe rearofthe
enclosure,4screwsforattachmentofthisbracket, and asealinggaskettoinsure
thatthe panelmountedmonitorprovidesawatertightsealwhen mountedtoa
panel.
Thesealinggasket mustfirst beattachedtothe enclosure. Thegasket contains
an adhesiveonone side sothat it remainsinplaceon theenclosure. Remove
the protectivepaperfromthe adhesiveside ofthegasketandslidethe gasket
overthe back of theenclosuresothat theadhesiveside linesupwiththe back of
the enclosureflange. Onceinplace, you can proceedtomount the monitorin
the panel.

3.1General
TheQ25PpHSensormountingoptionsinclude flow-through,submersion,
insertion (specialhardwarerequired),orsanitarymountdependingon the type of
sensorpurchased.
Q25P DifferentialpHSensorsareavailablein4differentversionsasshownin
Figure6.Theconvertiblestyleisthe mostcommonandcanbeused foreither
flow-throughorsubmersion applications.Aconvertiblesensorwithaquick-
disconnectreceptacleisavailable.Thisversion maynotbe submerged and
shouldnotbeused inunprotectedoutdoorlocations.Forspecialapplications,
the Q25Pisalsoavailableinastainless steelbodiedversion forinsertiontype
installations, orcan be suppliedineither1.5”or2”sanitaryversions.

3.2FlowTee Mounting
Convertiblesensorsmaybe used ina1”flowtee asshowninFigure7.Theflow
tee isamodified pipe fittingthataccommodatesthepipe thread onthe frontof
the sensor.Samplemustflowdirectlyagainstthefaceofthe sensorasshown.
Thesensormaybe mounted horizontallyprovided thatthe outletflowispointed
up toavoid“air locking”inthetee.Notethatstandard1”teefittingswill notwork
without modificationduetoclearanceproblemsinmostmolded tees.

Formountingthe sensorinlargerpipe and allowingforeasysensorremoval,a1
½” or2”union mountadaptersystemisavailable.Thisarrangementallows
connection ofthe sensortopipesizesup to2inches(usingadaptersif
necessary)whileallowingeasyremovalwithouttwistingsensorwires.Contact
ATIforpartnumbersand pricesforunionmountassembliesand associatedpipe
tees.The1½” assemblyisshownbelow. The 2”tee assemblyissimilar.

3.4Submersion Mounting
When usingthissensorforsubmersion applications, mount the sensortotheend
ofa1”mountingpipe usinga1”coupling.ATI’s(00-0628)mountingassembly
showninFigure9isavailableforsubmersibleapplications.Thisassemblyis
designed tomounttostandardhandrailsandfacilitatesinsertion and removalof
the sensor.
