the surface of the player.
zDo not disconnect the player while formatting, uploading or downloading,
otherwise it may cause a program error.
zWhen transferring files, do not turn the power off or restart this device. No
responsibility is provided for any damage to or loss of any program, data, or other
information stored on any media or any part of this device serviced hereunder.
zBattery service life may vary according to actual using conditions, manufacturer
and manufacturing date.
zWe suggest you to charge the battery through NB/ PC USB port.
zThe player begins recharging once it is connected to the USB port of a standard
computer, whether it is powered on or not.
zPlease recharge the device in the following conditions:
A. Battery electricity icon displays no electricity.
B. Player refuses to power on.
C. Player functions normally, but it quickly powers off automatically.
D. There is no response when pressing the keys.

Chapter 1. Introduction
Thanks for your purchase of the Apacer Audio Steno MP4 Player.
Before operating the unit, please read this manual thoroughly and keep it for future
reference. This manual will help you learn to use many of the exciting features of this
device and make your player experience more enjoyable.
This manual contains important safety measurements and operational information, so
please read all the information carefully before you use the device in order to avoid
any unexpected accidents.

Chapter 6. Basic Functions
zPowering On/Off
Power On:
Push the Power/Lock Swich to Power icon side to turn on the player.
Power Off:
Push the Power/Lock Swich to Power icon side and hold it until the Apacer
logo appears.
zHold On/Off
Hold On:
Push the Power/Lock switch to the Lock icon side to
lock the player. When any key is pressed, the screen will
display:
Hold Off:
Push the Power/Lock switch to the Lock icon side again
to unlock the player. Once the” Hold Off “function is
enabled, the screen will display:
zCharging the Battery
1. Connect the USB cable to your MP4 player and then connect the other end
of USB cable to the USB port on your computer.
2. The screen displays “USB Connected” which indicates the player is in the
USB mode.
3. The battery indicator on the top right corner of the screen is scrolling. When it
shows full grids, the battery has been fully charged.
4. It takes about 2.4 hours to fully charge the battery. Excessive charging or
discharging may shorten the battery’s life.
Note: Fully charge the rechargeable battery for the first time or for he long-time
unused for a while.
Please fully charge the battery every two months if you don’t use it for a long time to
avoid failure in powering on.

zConnect Computer and Data File Transmission
1. Connect the USB cable to your MP4 player, and then connect the other end
of USB cable to the USB port on your computer.
2. The screen displays “USB Connected” which indicates the player is in USB
mode.
zTransferring Files to the MP3 Player
For Windows users: The player can operate in 2 different USB modes：MSC
and MTP .
MSC Mode:
1. The MP4 player will show under My Computer as a removable disk.
2. Copy and save media files to and from the removable disk.
MTP Mode:
1. On the Windows XP OS (with Window Media Player 10 installed), the MP4
player will be recognized as a MTP device. There are two folders in the MTP
device, Playlists and Record folders. Transfer music, video, photo and other
data files from the computer to the MTP device directly.
2. On the Window Vista OS (with Windows Media Player 11 installed), the MP4
player will be recognized as a MTP device. Transfer music, video, photo and
other data files from the computer to the MTP device directly.
3. When the player is recognized by the computer as a MTP device, all of the
files that are stored in the player can not be played directly on the computer.
You must copy and save them to the computer for playback or browsing.
For Macintosh users:
1. The MP4 player will show under the computer as a removable disk (named
Unlabeled or Untitled).
2. Copy and save the media files to and from the removable disk.
Note: All keys are disabled when the player is connected to the PC. Don’t press any
keys during data transfer

zFormatting the Player
For Windows users:
1. Connect the MP4 player to the computer via a USB cable.
2. Format the MP4 player (Removable Disk) by using the Windows format tool.
3. You can format the internal storage of the player via your computer with the
file systems FAT or FAT32.
For Macintosh users:
1. Connect the MP4 player to the computer via a USB cable.
2. Double click the DATA disk.
3. Open the Application folder.
4. Find the Utilities folder and open it.
5. Find Disk Utility and open it. The Disk Utility window pops up.
6. Select SigmaTel and click the Erase tab.
7. In the Volume Format box, select MS-DOS File System.
8. Click the Erase button and a confirmation window pops up. Click the Erase
button.
zDisconnecting the Player
For Windows users:
After completing file transmission, do the following steps to disconnect the MP4
player from your computer. (If you arbitrarily unplug the USB cable, the file
transmission might fail and data might lose.)
MSC Mode:
1. On the Windows ME/2000/XP OS
(with Windows Media Player 9
installed), double click the green
arrow on the system tray on the
bottom right corner of the Windows
screen.
2. After selecting the USB device, click
the Stop button.
3. When you see the [Safely Remove
Hardware] window, click OK and then
unplug the USB cable.
Note: DO NOT select NTFS! Otherwise the player would not be able to work!
Note: Only select MS-DOS File System. Otherwise, the player would not be able to

MTP Mode:
1. On the Windows XP/Vista OS (with Windows Media Player 10 or Windows
Media Player 11 installed), wait until the MP4 player screen does not display
WRITING or READING, which indicates data transfer has been finished.
2. Unplug the player directly.
For Macintosh users:
1. Select the Unlabeled or Untitled disk on the desktop.
2. Click File on the menu bar and then Eject.
3. Disconnect the player from the computer.
zVolume Control
In Music, Voice or Video mode, move your finger up and down the vertical
touchpad to increase or decrease the volume. Firmly tap the top or bottom edge
of the vertical touchpad to increase or decrease the volume continuously.

Chapter 7. System Menu
zMain Menu
1. In the Main menu, touch or or move your finger
up and down the vertical touchpad to select your
desired option among [Music] / [Video] / [Record ]/
[Voice]/[FM] / [Photo] / [Settings] / [Navigation] /
[About].
2. Touch to enter into the submenu of the option.
3. In the submenu, touch to return to the previous
menu, or touch and hold for a while and then
release it to return the Main menu.
Chapter 8. Settings Mode
1. In the Main menu, touch or or move your finger
up and down the vertical touchpad to select
“Settings “option and touch to enter into the
Settings submenu.
2. Touch or or move your finger up and down the
vertical touchpad to select: Repeat, Equalizer,
Brightness, Backlight, Power Savings, Sleep,
Time, Language, Default, and touch to enter.
3. Touch again to save the settings, or touch to return to the “Settings”
submenu.
zRepeat Mode
1. Select Repeat option and touch to enter .
2. Touch or or move your finger up and down the vertical touchpad to select
a play mode and touch to confirm.
The available Play modes are:
Normal No icon.
Repeat One
Repeat All
Random

zEqualizer Mode
The Equalizer (EQ) setting is to adjust the music playback effect. There are
seven available EQ presets: Normal, Classical, XBass, Jazz, Pop, Rock, and
User (custom EQ).
1. Select Equalizer option in Settings
menu and touch to enter.
2. Touch or or move your finger up
and down the vertical touchpad to
select a preset EQ.
3. Touch to confirm your selection.
OR
1. In music playback mode, touch to
switch between different EQ.
2. You can see the EQ setting changing
one by one with your every press.
User (Custom EQ )
You can also customize the equalizer of the MP4 player.
In the User mode, there are 5 frequency bands: 60Hz, 250Hz, 1000Hz, 4000Hz
and 12000Hz. Each band ranges from -12 d B to 12 d B.
You can adjust the value of the band by touching or with an increase or
decrease of 0.5 d B per touch.
1. Select User option in the Equalizer submenu , and touch to enter.
2. Touch or to switch among 5 frequency bands and touch to activate the
band. The activated band blinks. Touch or to move the band up or down
and change the value of the frequency band settings.
3. Touch to save the settings or touch to go back to the previous menu.

zBrightness
1. In the Settings menu, select
Brightness option and touch to
confirm.
2. Touch or to adjust the brightness
level from 10% to 100 % by 10 % per
touch.
3. Touch to confirm and return to the
Settings menu.
zBacklight
1. In the Settings menu, select
Backlight option and touch to
enter.
2. Touch or or move your finger up
and down the vertical touchpad to
adjust the delay before the backlight is
dimmed.
3. Touch to confirm and return to the
Settings menu.
zPower Savings
Use the Power Savings function to automatically turn off the MP4 Player after a
predetermined length of inactivity.
1. In the Settings menu, select Power
Savings option and touch to enter.
2. Touch or or move your finger up
and down the vertical touchpad to
select: Off, 1 mins, 2 mins, 5 mins, 10
mins and 15 mins option.
3. Touch to confirm and return to the
Settings menu.
Note: Selecting "Always On" will keep the backlight on. Battery life is considerable
shorter if Always On is selected.
Note: Selecting "Off" disables the power saving function.

zSleep
This function is to hibernate the MP4 Player after a predetermined length of
inactivity.
1. In the Settings menu, select Sleep
option and touch to enter.
2. Touch or or move your finger up
and down the vertical touchpad to
select: Off, 10 mins, 30 mins, 1 hour
and 2 hours option.
3. Touch to confirm and return to the
Settings menu.
zTime
To setup the time of the MP4 player,
1. In the Settings menu, select Time option to enter.
2. Touch to enter into Hour setting (The screen will pisplay as below)
3. Touch or to adjust the hour.
4. Touch to confirm and enter into Min setting (The screen will display as
below).
5. Touch or to adjust the minute.
6. Touch to confirm and exit.
Change to “11”
Change to “18”
Time has been
changed to “11:18”.
Note: Selecting "Off" disables the sleep function.

zLanguage
1. Select Language option in the Settings menu,
touch to enter.
2. Touch or or move your finger up and down the
vertical touchpad to select the desired language
from 11 languages: English, Thai, Traditional
Chinese, Russian, Dutch, German, Polish, Italian,
Spanish, Portuguese and French.
3. Touch to confirm and return to the Settings
menu.
The menu will show the language you selected.
zDefault
Reset the MP4 player to its original settings.
1. Select Default option in the Settings menu.
2. Touch to confirm, then the original settings is
loaded to the MP4 player.

Chapter 9. Listen to Music
The Music mode is the default mode upon powering on the MP4 player. Try the
following steps to play a track.
1. Connect the earphones , then turn on the MP4 player .
2. Touch to start playing the current track. Touch it again
to pause.
3. Move your finger up and down the vertical touchpad to
increase or decrease the volume.
4. Touch at the beginning of the current track to select
the previous track. When music plays more than 5 seconds, touch to play
the current track from the beginning.
5. Touch to play the next track.
6. Touch and hold the or to fast rewind or fast forward the current track.
You also can play music from the main menu.
1. In the main menu , select Music option and touch to
enter into the submenu.
2. Touch or or move your finger up and down the
vertical touchpad to select :Now Playing , Audio Play
Queue , All Songs ,Artists , Albums , Genres,playlist .
3. Touch to enter or touch to return to the previous
menu
zNow Playing
Select Now Playing and touch to
enter the music playing screen.
Touch to start playing the current
track and touch it again to pause.
Note: Please check the player battery power before playing music.

zAudio Play Queue
Try the following steps to adjust the current playback
queue.
1. Select Audio Play Queue and touch to show
the current play queue.
2. Touch or or move your finger up and down
the vertical touchpad to select a track and hold
to pop up a window.
3. Select an optioin and touch to perform different
operations. See the following table.
Select: To:
Remove from Queue Remove the selected track from the play queue.
Shuffle Queue Change the playlist randomly.
Clear Queue Clear the current play queue.
Cancel Return to the Audio Play Queue manu.
zAll Songs
1. Select All Songs and touch to enter the all
tracks list.
2. Select a track and touch to play all tracks in
order from the selected track.
3. Or select a track and hold to pop up a window
and manually add the selected track to the play
queue.
zArtists
1. Select Artists and touch to enter the artist list.
2. Select an artist and touch to enter this folder.
The folder lists all albums by this artist.
3. Select an album and touch to enter it. Select a
track and touch to play all tracks of the album
from the selected track.

zAlbums
1. Select Albums and touch to enter the album
list.
2. Select an album and touch to enter it.
3. Select a track and touch to play all tracks in
this album from the selected track.
zGenres
1. Select Genres and touch to enter the genre
list.
2. Select a genre and touch to show all albums
that belong to the genre.
3. Select an album and touch to enter it. Select a
track and touch to play all tracks of the album
from the selected track.
zPlaylist:
1. Synchronize the playlist you create in the Windows Media Player (version 10
or above) to the player. Refer to the Windows Media Player Help for details
on synchronization.
2. Show the Playlist on the player.
3. Play songs in the Playlist.
zA-B Repeat Function
1. While playing a track, hold for a while and
release it to set the starting point (” A-” icon will
appear) of the desired section.
2. Hold again to set the end point (” A-B” icon will
appear).
3. The special section will be played repeatedly.
4. Hold again for a while and release it to cancel
the repeat function.
Note: While playing music, the MP4 player can perform other operations, such as
browsing photos, playing a slide show, adjusting player settings, browsing all files,
deleting a file in the MP4 player, or viewing the MP4 player information. The MP4
player stops music playing when it switches to such operations as recording a voice
clip, receiving FM radio, playing a video or voice file.

zLyrics Display
The MP4 player supports lyrics files in LRC format.
1. Make sure the lyrics file has the same name as the music file.
2. Save music file and lyrics file in the same folder of the MP4 player.
3. While playing the music, the lyrics will be displayed synchronously on the
bottom of the screen.
Note: The MP4 player only supports the Lyric Synchronous Display for files that
share the same name as the MP3 format file, e.g., for a music file named
“Angel.mp3”, the LRC file must be named “Angel.Irc”, they must also be in the same
directory.
