1. PURPOSE
This manual serves as a guide to the user when installing the MOD2000 modem into the FP2000
Analogue Addressable Fire Panel.
It is subdivided into different sub-sections and provides detailed information regarding the
following:
Section 3 gives a description of what the MOD2000 Modem Kit is.
Section 4 describes the unpacking and installation of the Modem Kit into the Fire Panel.
Section 5 gives an description on how to operate the equipment.

3. INTRODUCTION
3.1 GENERAL
The MOD 2000 Modem Kit provides the user the ability to link the FP2000 Series
Analogue Addressable Fire Panels and accessories via telephone line to other remote
Fire Panels, Repeaters, Central Stations, Personnel Computers, Graphic Stations etc.
The Modem Kit is mounted inside the Fire Panel. Its primary function is to serve as
interface between the RS232 port of the Fire Panel and an external telephone line.

4. SETTING UP
4.1 UNPACKING
Open the container and carefully remove the contents. Keep all packing material until
correct operation of the equipment has been verified.
If any equipment is damaged:
Immediately notify the freight carrier.
Notify the Supplier, who will arrange for the repair or replacement as appropriate.
Check the contents against the list below:
•Modem: Datatronics 3314PX inside the modem bracket
•Mounting Hardware
−P-Clips (Qty. 2)
−M3 Nuts (Qty. 2)
−Washer (Qty. 2)
−Telephone Line Adapter
Report any missing items to the Supplier.
4.2 PRECAUTIONS
To ensure safe operation and to keep the product safe, pay heed to the information,
cautions and warnings in the manual. Failure to do so will violate the safety standards of
design, manufacture and intended use of the equipment.

4.3 INSTALLATION
4.3.1 Mounting the Modem into the Fire Panel
The modem is provided with a bracket for wall mounting. For installing this bracket into
the Fire Panel refer to Figure 1.
1. Remove the protective cover from the double sided self adhesive tape on the rear
mounting surface of the bracket.
2. Position the mounting bracket inside the Fire Panel as shown in Figure 1 and fix in
position using the double sided self adhesive tape.

4.3.2 Connecting the Modem to the Fire Panel and Telephone Line
Before connecting the Modem to the Fire Panel ensure that the battery and the
mains power is isolated. Carefully study the Modem User’s Manual. For connecting
the Modem to the Fire Panel and Telephone Line refer to Figure 2 while following the
instructions below:
1. Connect the Green Earth wire leading from the Modem to the Earth Stud inside the
panel. Please note that the modem and associated circuitry is only protected if this
connection is made.
2. Connect the Power Harness leading from the modem to the Host Power supply (P7)
and Printer (if used) as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2.
3. Connect the RS232 output on the modem via the DB9 to DB25 adapter (already
connected) to one of the serial ports on the Fire Panel (refer to Figure 1 and Figure
2).
4. Connect the Telephone line to the Modem Protection Board (use the Telephone cable
adapter supplied if required).
5. Slide the Modem into the bracket inside the panel and fix all cables in position using
the hardware supplied (P-Clips and nuts).
6. Restore battery and Mains power to the Fire Panel and turn the Power Switch on the
Modem ON.

5. OPERATION
5.1 MODEM OPERATION AND FAULT FINDING
For modem operation and for trouble shooting refer to the User’s Manual supplied with
the Modem.
5.2 FP2000 FIRE PANEL SETTINGS
For Modem Alarm Reporting, Maintenance as well as setup on the FP2000 Fire Panel
refer to the FP2000 Reference Guide Product code LKFP2503.
