
QUICKSTART CARD
(a.k.a. “Sorry Guys I can’t wait to read the manual!”)
OK, we know what it’s like - it’s hard to sit down and read all the
instructions for this brand new audio tool when you can’t wait to get
started.
So for all you eager beavers here’s the short form ‘get-you-started’
info. It assumes that you already have your sound card installed and
youraudiosoftwareconfigured.Ifyouhaven’t,thendothatfirst
1.Unpackthee-prefromitspackaging
2.Makesureyour computer is turned OFF,popthecover off(thismay
requireascrewdriver)thenfindanempty5¼”slotonyourcomputer
chassis. The one you used to have your 5¼” floppy drive in will do
justfine
3. Slide the e-pre into the spare slot. There are screw holes on each
side of it. Use the screws supplied to firmly locate the e-pre in the
slot(One screw persideisenough.Ifaccess to bothsidesoftheslot
isawkward,thentwoscrewson one side will be OK)
4. Decide which output connections from the e-pre you are going to
use,andconnectalead fromthemto theLINEinput(s)ofyoursound
card.
5.Plugasparecomputerpowersupplyconnector(abigflatonewith 4
roundpins) intotherear ofthee-pre,thenclose thelidofthe compu-
ter.
That’s about it for installation. Plug a microphone into the front panel
comboinputof the e-pre, then turn thecomputeronand open up your
audiosoftwareprogram. Select RECORD fromtheappropriate menu
andyou’re onyourway.

1.Startwith all the e-pre controlsat 12o’clock.
2.IftheOVERLOADLEDonthefrontofthe e-pre flashesasyou record,
backoff the INPUT GAINcontrol.
3.If the recording meters onyour software are goinginto the RED, re-
ducethe OUTPUT LEVELuntiltheystayin the green oryellowarea.
4.AdjustingtheCONTOURcontrolwilleitherboosttheMIDs(turnLEFT)
or LOW and HIGHs (turn RIGHT). These will affect the OUTPUT
level,so always check it after achange.
5.Instant guitar Preamp - turn CONTOURhard left
6.Instant radio Voice-over setting - turn CONTOURhardright
