TEMS™ PRODUCT SERVICES 1.1
TEMS™PRODUCT SERVICES EXTEND CUSTOMER OPTIONS
In today’s competitive and complex environment, network quality is
the key to maintaining customer satisfaction and building revenue.
Operators require accurate data to optimize network performance, and the
efficient gathering of data demands best-in-class monitoring tools and so-
lutions to stay competitive.
Specialists are needed to understand different network technologies
and network services, as well as the tools to analyze the various data, with
input often coming from different system suppliers.
Today, as operators assess the value they bring to the market, the
question of what is central to their business has become more critical.
Engineers and senior specialists, who must focus more on the core business
than ever before, can invest only a limited amount of time in developing
competencies for supporting their tools.
Operators are constantly looking for alternative ways to utilize ad-
vanced supporting tools and competencies without interfering with their
core business and without incurring undue expense.
TEMS Product Services answer those pressing needs. They include tool-
near services such as hosting and application management of TEMS solutions,
following the trend toward outsourcing of operational support disciplines.
They also comprise support for various kinds of assisting services including
measurement support (helping customers collect data), as well as tradi-
tional consultancy work like analysis and customer adaptations.

CONSULTANCY SERVICES
Consultancy Services consist of two generic components.
▪Solution Analysis is the first step toward putting a complete solution
delivery into place. It gives the operator a safe and efficient way to
build and evolve the TEMS solution when it is introduced into the
organization, or when an existing solution is changed, extended, or
upgraded.
▪Solution Adaptation provides a reliable way to extend and customize
the TEMS solution mainly in the areas of configuration, reporting, data
adaptations, and data integration via standard TEMS interfaces.
OPERATIONS SERVICES
Operations Services use our TEMS NOC facilities and expertise.
▪Application Management is for customers who own a TEMS product
and wish to use their own system environments on their own premises,
but also want TEMS experts to be responsible for the operation and
maintenance of the tool. This service provides application management
expertise remotely from a TEMS NOC facility. While freeing their
technical staff to concentrate on core business activities, customers
have full access to the application, just as if it were self-managed.
▪Application Hosting is designed for operators who own TEMS products
and understand their high value, but seek to minimize tool-related
investments. Under a long-term contract, operations are handled at a
professional TEMS NOC facility, freeing up technical staff to concentrate
on core business activities. Customers have full remote access to their
data, just as if the tools were self-managed.
▪Application On-Demand customers subscribe to TEMS license rights
instead of owning the product. They pay only for the time they use it,
subject to subscription fees for access to the complete solutions
including hosting facilities, operational expertise, and advisory support.
The service provides easy, temporary access to accurate, detail-rich data
at a moderate cost. Results are delivered remotely via TEMS NOC
hosting facilities, and can be accompanied by high-level operational
expertise and advisory support
TEMS™PRODUCT SERVICES OFFERINGS
TEMS Product Services can assist operators
in several ways throughout the delivery
project’s lifecycle, beginning with the
business requirements and moving through
planning, establishment, execution, and
finally project conclusion. As shown in the
previous figure, the offerings include
Consultancy Services, Operations Services,
Measurement Support Services, and Product
Lease Services.
4 TEMS™ PRODUCT SERVICES 1.1
For results presentation, the customer can have full access to all TEMS
client applications (such as reports, the Operator Console, or TEMS™
Presentation) via Web access, or by subscribing to ready reports via e-mail.
Performance reports are published daily. Other reports may be
published as part of other related service components, and can include
details such as a probe’s health and measurement performance, input data
advising the customer to follow up on particular testing campaigns, and
guidance in determining if data-gathering efforts are on track.
Standardized packages promote efficient use
of equipment and personnel.
5TEMS™ PRODUCT SERVICES 1.1
MEASUREMENT SUPPORT SERVICES
Measurement Support Services help operators collect quality measure-
ment data using TEMS test probes, which may be handheld, mobile, vehicle-
mounted, or installed at fixed locations. The probes perform end-to-end
quality testing of voice calls and data sessions via the air interface of a
mobile network, and the measurement results are recorded in logfiles.
Measurement Support Services provide instantly comparable end-to-
end key performance indicators (KPIs) of subscriber-perceived quality. The
service’s components target service campaigns such as benchmarking,
audits, and the like.
▪Measurement Management Assistance – Before testing begins, a
measurement strategy needs be defined, determining requirements for
testing campaigns. The strategy ensures that all relevant aspects have
been considered regarding data to collect and to test. Variables include:
- Geographical areas and network topologies
- KPIs, events, and other measurement parameters
- Probe deployment strategies
- Measurement instructions
▪Work-Order Management Assistance provides remote assistance with
work-order configuration tasks, operating the Operations Console,
helping define test instructions, and configuring probes.
▪Fleet Management Assistance assesses scenarios for data collection,
helping the project identify appropriate locations, vehicles, and/or local
resources needed for testing. TEMS may perform activities including:
- Negotiating contracts with selected locations and fleets,
- Administering contracts and payments,
- Managing fleet relationships,
- Controlling resources for ad hoc and on-demand drives,
▪Probe Performance Validation is responsible for monitoring test probes
and logfiles.
▪Measurement Performance Validation ensures that requested
geographical areas have been tested and determines any requirements
for further testing.
6 TEMS™ PRODUCT SERVICES 1.1
PRODUCT LEASE SERVICES
Product Lease Services assist customers in leasing TEMS tools for qual-
ity testing of voice calls and data sessions via the air interface of a mobile
network. This flexible offering gives customers access to TEMS products
without the need for substantial capital investments.
▪Equipment Management Assistance handles logistics and initial
equipment configuration, keeping track of inventory data and making
sure equipment is shipped and delivered in the best way for the project.
The module is also responsible for inventory management, how
equipment is installed and deployed, and how software and hardware
are physically configured.
▪Spare Parts Management Assistance monitors equipment stock,
making sure that spares are always available.
▪Product Equipment Leasing currently includes a wide array of TEMS
products, like TEMS Automatic probes, and other software licenses as
needed.

BENEFITS
Network operators know that customer experience is the most impor-
tant differentiator between the success and failure of their businesses.
Customers expect the same level of quality for wireless/mobile networks
that they are used to from their PSTN. Meeting this universal expectation
is critical to the continued growth of any operator’s business.
One of the most effective ways to ensure that customers’ expectations
are being met is continual end-to-end service quality auditing. The audits
measure KPIs, which can then be used to benchmark the network’s Quality
of Service (QoS), which in turn yield insight into the end-user’s perception of
the network. These findings are also helpful for detecting faults, capacity
bottlenecks, and configuration problems.
TEMS Product Services make it simple for customers to obtain access to
TEMS solutions and expertise – especially in combination with our hosting
and measurement services – for efficient data collection.
These services ensure that measurements are gathered by the latest and
the most advanced tools on the market, producing reliable and consistent data.
It also makes certain that the latest methodologies are always applied.
Product Lease Services are cost-efficient in not requiring any initial
investments at all. Along with the option of leasing TEMS products, you can
“pay as you use” by having access to a TEMS NOC facility.
No matter which offering or combination of
components the operator chooses, TEMS
Product Services can be of advantage, for
three reasons: better performance, simpler
monitoring implementation, and lower
operations costs.
