OUR SOLUTION
Ascom’s Revenue Assurance solution is based on our award winning
Monitor Master platform. We focus on the end-to-end 24x7 validation
and monitoring of complex user transactions.
Tests to simulate users accessing different services are scheduled
to run at different locations, using different SIMs and APNs.
Monitor Master components are built using Ascom’s established
Quality Manager Architecture, to provide the level of flexibility, reliability
and performance demanded.
The platform supports distributed agents and centralized manage-
ment, and is extremely configurable and flexible.
A SIM Server provides centralized storage for all your SIMs. This
allows flexible call campaigns including roaming scenarios.
Interactive Mode allows you to use a probe in any location like a
phone on your desktop for ad-hoc interactive voice and data testing.

HOW IT’S USED
CDR Comparison
Monitor Master generates calls for voice and data services to pro-
duce test CDRs (Call Detail Records). Calls are scheduled to run auto-
matically or ad-hoc using Interactive Mode. The test CDRs are correlated
with the real CDRs using a third party system or by using tools within
Monitor Master. A number of options are available for reconciling test
and real CDRs.
Using a handset alone is not enough to give the detail needed about
what has been consumed during the test to reconcile with real usage.
Trace detail is needed to ensure accurate measurements.
Multi-modal transactions
With Monitor Master you can easily model complex user transac-
tions such as ring tone and game downloads. These services, accessed via
a WAP portal, can be monitored with automatic billing verification.

Monitor Master’s flexibility allows the customer’s billing rules to be
checked in a test. For example, verify that the subscriber is charged for
a ring tone download and is not charged when downloading the same
ring tone again.
The future
It’s no longer enough to test basic voice and data. The next wave
of applications will include Web 2.0 and user generated content. The bill-
ing models for these services are not yet settled but one thing is clear,
Monitor Master’s flexibility will make testing easier.

A major US carrier uses Monitor Master
for revenue assurance testing. Their system
of 160 Monitor Master probes across the US
is used by more than 50 users who perform a
variety of checks for voice and data services.
Checks include ad-hoc interactive tests, pe-
riodic campaigns and network-wide checks.

system, to which Monitor Master provides
data every 15 minutes.

Billing system tests
One customer uses Monitor Master to test upgrades to their billing
system. Monitor Master makes test calls to prove that each new change
is correct with no undesirable side effects.

any network change. Changes are often quite localized to specific regions;
Monitor Master‘s distributed probes are therefore able to focus testing
on these regions as well as cover all possible service call types to ensure
complete coverage.
Monitor Master tests are repeatable and objective. Any test failure
can be seen at a glance; the detail available from the test helps resolve
any issues much more quickly than using an ad-hoc manual approach.
