The managed LAN Switch is an integral
product in Ascom’s palette of military
communication equipment. Constructed for
harsh environments the ultra-reliable ruggedized
unit provides hundreds of thousands service free
hours. Equipped with a complete range of
network features, it is engineered into one of the
smallest enclosures available. This combination
offers unique application possibilities such as
dismounted soldier systems and tight space
constrained installations.
Compliant with military power and
mechanical standards, the LAN Switch R is
constructed to the same quality criteria as the
well-known family of ruggedized Ascom
openAccess Nodes. Used primarily in military
environments, Ascom network communication
systems are equally adaptable for international
peace keeping missions and crisis management
tasks.
The Ascom LAN Switch R is a very compact and rugged military grade
20-Plus Port Fast Ethernet Switch. It offers advanced protocol support and
unique port-based 802.1Q VLAN tagging functionality. This feature enables
any combination of ports to be connected together in subnets for use in
small secure or non-secure networks. Ports can also be easily grouped
together providing redundancy with just milliseconds fast recovery time.
RSTP (Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol) gives additional network path
redundancy while the fibre-optical and copper ports allow long distance
connectivity. The switch also supports power over Ethernet.
Real-time Ethernet performance is standard. Each port maintains ingress
and egress rate control. Other advanced features include IGMP (Internet
Group Management Protocol), Query & Snooping and port security. Its
‘wire-speed’ packet forwarding is based on MAC addresses and automa-
tic intelligent routing prevents collisions and delays. Field programmable,
operators particularly appreciate the integrated friendly Webserver SNMP
monitoring tools.
The Switch ruggedized package is corrosion resistant and shock/
vibration proof. Its watertight ultra rugged enclosure is hermetically sealed
to totally protect against severe humidity, dust exposure, oil, debris and
other environmental hazards found in harsh situation. It is also highly
reliable in extended-temperature operation. Another benefit of the compact
LAN Switch R is the multiple of mounting positions, making it easier to install
and to access the connectors.
