1. Safety information
Please read this manual carefully before the use. If you have any questions
concerning this, our technical consultants would be glad to give you further
information - 02722-63596-24. The manufacturer of the product is not liable for
damages caused to people or things due to wrong- or irresponsible use of the
product. Keep this manual in a safe place for future reference.
Immediately after transportation between two places with very different
temperatures the delay time of approximately 1-2 hours must be allowed before
the unit is switched on. Please make sure that the water of condensation has
dried completely.
1.1 Safety of use
LIANA is a product for professional use by trained medical staff. The medical
personnel must have read and understood the operating instructions
beforehand. Before using the device on the patient, please talk about the
following contraindications with your doctor.
Contraindications:
•Postoperative
•Unstable fractures
•Other severe infuries (such as brain- and head injuries)
•Circulatory instability
•Elapsed tonicity
•Sedated patients
•Poor compliance of the patient

1.2. General safety rules
•WARNING: When moving the divece, make sure that the product does not
collide with anything.
•WARNING: Before commissioning, after storage and transport, inspect the
device visually to preclude mechanical damage. Before use please check all
electrical functions.
•WARNING: All electrical componentes are protected against spray water
(IPX 4). When liquids are spilled in the control box, press the safety button
immediately or open the door on the back. Perform a manual drying on the
device.
•WARNING: In the event of battery-overheating, disconnect the device from
the battery immediately. Please contact the technical support.
•WARNING: May not be used for patient transport!
•WARNING: Afterdisconnectionof batteryandchargingunit,makesurethatthebattery
terminalsdonotcomeintocontactwithmetallicobjects. This may result in damage
or could cause a fire.
•WARNING: Do not use the device in an explosive atmosphere, excessive
humidity or in conjunction with chemicals.
•WARNING: Do not expose the device or its accessories to open flames or
extremely high temperatures.
•WARNING: By using the stabiliser straps the T-element has to be always fixed
used (see page 12, pos. 6).

•WARNING: In order to prevent all patient issures, the device must be monitored
constantly.
•WARNING: The device may only be operated on an even, dry surface that is
sufficiently strong to hold its weight.
•WARNING: Manual emergency function: In case of a defect in the power
supply, it is possible to hoist the front system (armconstruction) by two
persons. The weight of the front system is 34kg.

•WARNING: At mobilisation processes with severely ill and absolutely
immobile patients, the patient must be under continuous observation. It´s
not allowed to leave the patient room.
•WARNING: When attaching the T-element, please take care that the pap
between mattress and T-element isn´t to big. The patient may slip through -
> risk of strangulation.

3. Purpose
The seat- and stand-stabilizer LIANA is a medical product that was developed for
patient seat- and stand-stabilisation, -mobilisation and -postioning. The patient-
seat and -stand-stabilizer LIANA is for using in short- and long-term care facilities,
hospitals, hospices, rehabilitation centers and for home care. The device has to
be used only by professional and trained medical stuff. LIANA is used to facilitate
the rehabilitation process after illnesses. So the patient has a stable position
during mobilisation, eating and basic care. The system belongs tot he product
group: Rehabilitation aids. The patient-seat and -stand-stabilizer LIANA is an
electrical device which is powered by a battery. The battery is charged using an
external charge / dockingstation (scope of delivery).

The decision on the application of the device lies with the doctor in charge. So
you can avoid contra indications.
NOT ALLOWED FOR PATIENT-TRANSPORT! The height and length adjustment
can be operated with a hand switch (with cable connection) or by a panel on the
column. The adjustment of armrest, headrest, backrest, lumbar support, table ,
T-element and stabiliser straps are done manually using the fixing elements.
The chassis is only for moving the device. The brake system secures the safety
position of the device at the patient.

•Stabilisation of a patient in seating position at the edge of the bed during
the early mobilization, food intake, neurological assessment, basic care or
in upright, standing position.

4. Mobilization of the patient
In case of malfunction please press the emergency button at the
device. The electrical circuit will shut off. A further use is not allowed. Please
contact the costumer support: +49(0)2722/63596-24.
4.1. Mobilization at
the edge of the bed
„Sitting on the edge of the bed”
•Before starting the mobilization, check the technical condition of the patient
bed.
•Before starting the mobilization, check the technical condition of the device.
•The Process „sitting on the edge of the bed”, is best done at least by two
medical specialists/physiotherapists.
•The patient will be mobilized and stabilized at the edge of the bed by medical
stuff.
•The patients sitting position is so far as possible in the middle of the bed.
•Lower the bed, till the patient has both feet solidly on the floor.
•Open the arms of the LIANA.
•In the event of mobilization at the edge of the bed, please drive LIANA
carefully from the rear of the bed to the patient. When the correct position
has been found, all 4 wheels must be braked.
•The height of the armrests can be adjusted using the handswitch or the
column keypad.

•By using the panel on the column / the handswitch, you can slide the
horizontal column backwards and forwards. So you´re able to find the
optimum position for the patient.
•First of all, for a good and comfortable position, set the lumbar support.
•In the second step, please set the backrest. The correct position of the
backrest: Top of the backrest => level collarbone.
•Then set the headrest and fix it. The head can be stabilised still further by
stabiliser straps. Lateral at the headrest you will find fixing points.
•Tubes and cables can be secured at the two tube holders (left & right at the
column head).
•Close the arm construction until they engage.
•For a comfortable arm position, set the armrests. The dimensions at the arm
constructionshouldhelptofindtheoptimumposition.Fixthearmrestswiththeclip
lock.
•To adjust the arm rests from inside tot he outside, use the latching notches
at the armrest.
•If the patient is not able to sit without support, please use the stabilisation
straps, which can be mounted at the backrest and the lumber support.
•Byusingthe stabiliserstraps the T-element hasto be alwaysused. The T-element
reduce the risk of falling and strangulation. When attaching the T-element,
please take care that the pap between mattress and T-element isn´t to big.
The patient may slip through -> risk of strangulation.
•For eating and drinking, use the table (optional). It can be adapt at the arm
construction.
•After adjusting the comfortable position of the patient, press the emergency
button.
•After the mobilization process „Sitting on the edge oft he bed“, the patient
has to be stabalized manual by a medical specialist (nurse).
•The dismantling takes place in reverse order..

A permanent supervision must be at…:
•... mobilization of an intubated patient.
•... mobilization of a patient, who is not able to express by himself.
•... mobilization of a tracheostomized patient.
•... mobilization of a patient, who is breathing spontaneously.
4.2 Mobilization in an upright position
„Standing”
•Before starting the mobilization, check the technical condition of the patient
bed.
•Before starting the mobilization, check the technical condition of the device.
•The Process „standing”, is best done at least by two medical
specialists/physiotherapists.
•The patient should have solid shoes or non-slip socks to to ensure stability.
•The patients sitting position is so far as on the edge of the bed..
•Position the unit LIANA in front of the patient. Now rotate the armrests by
180 degrees. Fix it.
•Actuate all brakes.
•Mount the legrests at the chassis. The legrests can be adjusted individual to
the patient. Please make sure, that the knees of the patient remains free.
•Make sure, that the legrests engages properly.
•The height of the armrests can be adjust individual by the handswitch and/or
the panel at the column.

•Now, the patient can comfortably support his arms on the armrests. Then
he has to be grip the handholds. The patient leans forward slightly (position
of a ski jumper).
•When rising up, the patient should be supported by two health
professionals/ physiotherapists. The heightadjustmend of LIANA and the
patient bed will be executed parallel by the handswitches till the patient
reach the maximum upright position.
•Make sure, that the feet of the patient have ground contact. The shins must
be maximum stable supported by the legrests. If this is not guaranteed,
the process „STANDING“ must be stopped immediately.
•When the patient is standing, the patientbed needs to move down under
the buttocks. Directly after application the patient can be placed on the bed.
•When needed a waste strap can be fixed.
•After adjusting the comfortable position of the patient, press the emergency button.
•After the mobilization process „STANDING”, LIANA and the patient bed can
be adjusted down.
•A medical specialist stabilizes the patient manualy
•Release the four brakes.
•Remove the System LIANA from the patient.
•The patient can be placed back into the bed.

6. Handswitch and column keypad
LIANA has two possibilities of control:
A wired handswitch and an integrated column keypad. It is possible to adjust the
height (1) and the longitudinal shift (2). The handswitch also has a battery level
(3).

7. Handling
7.1. Switch-on/switch-off the device
To turn on the device, insert the battery and close the back door. Please check
the charge status -> battery level indicator on the handswitch. If the intensity is
not set, the device remains in the standby mode. The motor is only activated by
pressing the function keys.
7.2. Battery
Before using LIANA, please check the battery charge status with the battery level
indicator on the handswitch. If the battery level is low, use the charger supplied
to charge the battery. To remove the battery, press the lever on the back-
/upperside of the battery. Charge the battery pack by connecting it to a mains
power supply thorough the included charger.
After disconnection of battery and charging unit, make sure that the
battery terminals do not come into contact with metallic objects. This may result
in damage or could cause a fire!

7.3. Positioning armrests
The positioning/adjustment of the armrest should be done before amounting
the T-element. It´s possible to adjust the armrests lateral and longitudinal.
To adjust the longitudinal position, untie the lower star grip (1), >Pic. I< to move
it forward and backward. Replay the procedure at the other side. The scales at
the exterior surfaces of the arms serve as adjusting aid.
To adjust the lateral position, pull the lock (2)to move it to the right or. Replay
the procedure at the other side.

To rotate the armrests through 180°, untie the lower star grip (1) >Pic. II< and
remove the armrest completely from the bar. (Make sure, that the T-element is
not be mounted). Move the rotated armrest to the bar again. After finding the
right position, tighten the star grip firmly (1).
Replay the procedure at the other side.

7.4. Positioning lumbar support
It´s possible to adjust the height of the lumbar support. Pull the lock (1) >Pic. III<
and move it in the direction you want. The interior of the rail is fitted with cut-
outs for secure catching.

7.5. Positioning backrest
It´s possible to adjust the height of the backrest. Pull the lock (1) >Pic. IV< and
move it in the direction you want. The interior of the rail is fitted with cut-outs
for secure catching.

7.6. Positioning headrest
The headrest is adjustable longitudinally, heightadjustable and rotable.
To change the longitudinal position, release the locking lever (2) >Pic. V< and
adjust it into the desired position.
After adjusting, tight the locking lever (2) firmly again.
To adjust the height of the headrest, pull the lock (1) >Pic. V< and adjust the
height by the linkage (3) >Pic. 5<; Lowering the headrest is done by action of
gravity.

7.7. Positioning legrests
The legrests are used to move the patient to an upright position –
Description under >point 4
Insert the legrests into the side rails at the chassis and fix them by the locks (3)
on each side. Adjust it into the desired position and fix it by the lock (1) >Pic. VI<.
Adjust the desired height and lateral position of the legrests (2), >Pic. VI<.
Move the locking lever (2), >Pic. VI< to fix the desired position.
