AnalyticalTechnology,Inc.(Manufacturer) warrantstothe Customerthatifanypart(s)of
the Manufacturer'sproductsprovestobe defectiveinmaterialsorworkmanshipwithinthe
earlierof18 monthsofthe dateofshipmentor12 monthsofthe dateofstart-up,such
defectivepartswill be repaired orreplaced free ofcharge.Inspection and repairsto
productsthoughttobe defectivewithinthe warrantyperiod will be completed atthe
Manufacturer'sfacilitiesinCollegeville,PA.Productson whichwarrantyrepairsare
required shall be shipped freightprepaidtothe Manufacturer.The product(s)will be
returned freightprepaidand allowed ifitisdetermined bythe manufacturerthatthe part(s)
failed due todefectivematerialsorworkmanship.
Thiswarrantydoesnotcoverconsumableitems,batteries,orwearitemssubjectto
periodicreplacement including lampsand fuses.
Gassensors,exceptoxygen sensors,arecovered bythiswarranty,butaresubjectto
inspection forevidenceofextended exposuretoexcessivegasconcentrations.Should
inspection indicatethatsensorshavebeen expended ratherthan failed prematurely,the
warrantyshall not apply.
The Manufacturerassumesno liabilityforconsequentialdamagesofanykind,and the
buyerbyacceptanceofthisequipmentwill assumeall liabilityforthe consequencesofits
useormisusebythe Customer,hisemployees,orothers.Adefectwithinthe meaning of
thiswarrantyisanypartofanypieceofaManufacturer'sproductwhichshall,when such
partiscapableofbeing renewed,repaired,orreplaced,operatetocondemnsuchpieceof
equipment.
Thiswarrantyisinlieu ofall otherwarranties(including withoutlimiting the generalityof
the foregoing warrantiesofmerchantabilityand fitness foraparticularpurpose),
guarantees,obligationsorliabilitiesexpressed orimplied bythe Manufacturerorits
representativesand bystatuteorruleof law.
Thiswarrantyisvoidifthe Manufacturer'sproduct(s)hasbeen subjecttomisuseor
abuse,orhasnotbeen operated orstored inaccordancewithinstructionsorifthe serial

INTRODUCTION
The ModelA15/82 isan on-line monitoring systemdesigned forthe continuousmeasurementofthe
fluoride ion (F-)inaqueoussolutions.The monitoring systemprovidesmeasurementsbetween 0.1and 1000
PPM.The unitissetup atthe factory foradefaultrange of0-10 PPM,butcan be changed tohigherrangesof
0-100 or0-1000 PPM byproperfieldcalibration.The analog outputsignalmaybe spanned forsmallerranges
withinthe overall operating rangesifdesired.A15/82 monitorsaredesigned tooperateon sampletemperatures
from0°to50 °C.Becausewaterisflowing through the chemistry moduleatalowrate,thisunitcannotbe
exposed totemperaturesbelow0°C.
The basicsensing elementused inthe monitorisafluoride ion selectiveelectrode (ISE).Thissensor
containsalanthanumfluoride crystalthatgeneratesavoltage proportionaltothe activityoffluoride ion in
solution.Asilver/silverchloride referenceelectrode contained inthe samesensorbodyprovidesthe second half
ofthe measurementcell.BecauseISE electrodesrespond toactivityratherthan concentration,asmall amount
ofbufferismetered intothe sampletoprovide aconstantbackground condition.Withotherparametersheld
constant, fluoride activityand fluoride concentration arecloselyrelated.Atemperatureelementinthe
measuring chamberprovidesautomatictemperaturecompensation forthe system.
A15/82 monitorsincorporatean automaticcalibration featurethatmaintainshigh measurementaccuracy
overlong operating periods.The automaticcalibration systemfeedsaknownfluoride standardintothe system
atan operatorprogrammablefrequency suchasevery 24 hours,every 3days,orsomeotherconvenient
interval.Automaticcalibration can be done atanyintervalbetween 1and 999 hours.During calibration,analog
outputand relaysareheldatthe valuesmeasured justbeforeinitiation ofthe calibration sequence.Analarm
relaycan be used toindicateacalibration failure.
Fluoride monitoring systemincludes3parts,an electronicdisplayunit(panelorwall mount),achemistry
module,and asampleinletand drainchamber.Atypicalfluoride systeminstallation isshowninFigure1.A
stainless steelmounting panelisavailable(partnumber00-1261)thatsimplifiesinstallation and locatesanalyzer
componentsintheirproperrelativepositions.Inaddition,the platecontainsaconvenientpan forlocating the
reagent and calibration standard.

INSTALLATION
The maininstallation requirementsforthe ATI Fluoride Monitoraremechanicalinstallation ofthe monitor
chemistry module,and sampleinletoverflowchamber,connection ofpowertobothmonitorand chemistry
module,and connection ofsampleand drainpiping tothe sampleoverflowchambersupplied withthe system.
Figure1on page 6showsaschematicofatypicalinstallation ofacompletesystemmounted on the optional
stainless steelplate. The monitormust be located within5feet ofthe chemistry moduledue tothe limited sensor
cablelength.Ifthe optionalstainless steelmounting platewaspurchased,all componentsmounttothisplate,
withthe platemounted toawall. Ifthe stainless platewasnot supplied, bufferand standardholdersmust alsobe
mounted.
Figure2providesdetailson the mechanicalinstallation ofthe standardpanelmount electronicassembly.
The panelcutoutmustbe made accuratelyasthe cutouttoleranceissmall.Panelmounting bracketsare
included withthe monitorand areattached asshownbelow.

SAMPLEINLETOVERFLOW
The watersamplesupplied tothe monitorisconnected toaspecialoverflowchamber.Thisisdone to
insurethatthe sampleflowratetothe monitorissufficienttoinsurethatfreshsampleisalwaysavailableatthe
samplepickup point. Most ofthe sampleflowing tothisassemblywill simplygo directlytothe drain.
Figure5showsthe sampleoverflowassemblyon itsaluminummounting bracket. The bracketis
supplied toholdthe inletassemblyunderthe samplepump,and toallowwastefromthe chemistry moduleto
flowback intothe drainchamber.The overflowassemblyshouldbe mounted closetothe chemistry module(as
showninFigure5)tominimizesystemresponsetime.Mounting furtherfromthe chemistry modulewill increase
the sampletransporttime,therebyincreasing the monitorresponsetime.Oncemounted,the samplepickup
tube shouldbe placed intothe inlet chamberand the chemistry moduledraintube shouldbe placed intothe drain
chamberasshown.

BUFFERAND CALIBRATIONSTANDARD BOTTLEHOLDERS
Twobottlemounting bracketsaresupplied sothat the bufferand fluoride standardsolution can be
located convenientlybelowthe chemistry module. The bracketsaredesigned forwall mounting, and will hold
one gallon plasticcontainers. When mounting thesebrackets, be suretoleaveenough roombetween the
bottomofthe chemistry moduleand the top ofthe bracket sothat the bottlescan be lifted fromthe brackets.
Notethatthese bracketsare notsupplied when thestainless steel mounting panel containing the
reagentshelfisordered with theanalyzer.

REAGENTAND FLUORIDESTANDARD PICKUPTUBING CONNECTION
Aspecialrubberstopperwithaceramicsupport tube issupplied forthe bufferand fluoride standard
bottles. Ifnecessary, adjust the ceramictube sothat it doesnot hit the bottomofthe solution bottles. Alengthof
pickup tubing issupplied foreachofthesepickup assemblieswithasmall filterattached toone end ofthe buffer
tubing. The buffertubing isblack whilethe fluoride standardtubing istranslucent. Afterthe buffersolution is
ready, feed the end ofthe tubing oppositethe filterup through the ceramictube. Then insert the tube assembly
intothe solution and press the rubberstopperinplace. When assembled, the reagent delivery systemshould
conformtoFigure5on page 6.
Afterthe reagentbottleshavebeen placed intothe bracketsoron the mounting panelshelf,attachthe
otherend ofthe pickup tubing tothe connectorson the reagentpump.The reagentpumphastwosmall barb
connectorson the rightside.Press the pickup tube carefullyontoeachofthesebarbs,being carefulnottopull
on the pumptubing.The tubing fromthe bufferbottlecan be shortened ifthereisan excess oncemounting is
complete.

fromthe combination sensorisinstalled inthe chemistry moduleat the factory. The cablehasacenterconductor

START-UP
Priortooperation,recheck electricalconnectionstobe sureeverything isinaccordancewithFigure8
and Figure9.Ifeverything isinorder,powermaybe applied.When poweristurned on,the displaywill come
up withaprogramand version number,whichwill remainon the displayforafewseconds.The displaywill then
change toadisplayofthe fluoride value and an indication ofthe statusofcontrolrelays.Thisisthe main
operating display, and shouldlooklikethe displaybelow:

The XX.XX portion will be numbers.The initialvaluescouldbe almostanything,depending on whether
the sensorhasbeen connected and whatthe condition ofthe sensoris.The valuesarenotimportantatthis
point. The displaymayindicatearrowstothe leftorright, butthisshouldnotbe ofconcernuntil sampleis
flowing.The nextportion ofthe displayindicatescontrolrelaystatus.The letterAreferstocontrolrelayAas
marked on the back ofthe monitor.Anopen square(o)indicatesadeactivated relaywhileasolidsquare(n)
indicatesan activated relay.Moreinformation on the controlrelaysisprovided inalatersection of thismanual.
Notethatifthe automaticcalibration featureofthissystemisdisabled,relayBstatuswill alsobe displayed.
Beyond the maindisplay,aseriesofalternatedisplaysareavailabletothe operator.Thesedisplaysmaybe
selected bypressing the MODEkeyon the frontpanel.It isagood idea tostep through the displaystobecome
familiarwitheachone.Manyofthesealternatedisplaysserveasastarting pointforprogramming functions

FRONTPANEL LOCK
The keyswitcheson the frontpanelofthe monitorcan be used forbothchanging the displayand for
calibrationsand setpointadjustments.When the monitorisshipped fromATI, all functionsareaccessible.
However,the adjustmentand calibration functionscan be locked inordertoprevent unauthorized adjustmentsto
the instrument. When the frontpanelislocked,the MODEkeywill still allowthe displaytobe stepped through
the alternatedisplaysbut will not allowsettingstobe altered.
Tolock (orunlock) the keyboard,press the MODEkeyuntil “CONFIGURATION”isdisplayed. Press the
CALkeyonceand the displaywill change to“KB UNLOCKED”.Usethe UPkeytoselect“KB LOCKED”and
press ENTER.The UPDATEmessage will appearbrieflyand the “LCD CONTRAST”message will appear.
Press the MODEkey3timestoreturntothe maindisplay.

CONFIGURATION
The electronicsforthe Fluoride systemaredesigned tobe asflexibleaspossible.Anumberof
programming functionsareprovided inthe CONFIGURATIONmenu and areprotected byan access number,
whichmustbe entered toallowchangesinthesesettings.Somesettingsareforfactory useonly,whileothers
areused forcustomerselection ofcertainoperating parameters.
Press the MODEkeyuntil the displayreadsCONFIGURATIONand then press CAL.The displaywill
read “KB UNLOCKED(ORLOCKED)”.Press ENTERtwiceand the displaywill read “ACCESS NR.: 0”.To
gainaccess tothe configuration routines,the access numbermust be entered using the UPorDOWNkeys. The
defaultaccess numberis0,soyou can enterthe configuration menu bysimplypressing ENTER. Thisnumberis
programmableand can be settoany3digitnumberdesired.Remembertorecordanycustomaccess number
entered intothe unitinalocation whereyou can alwaysfind it. Shouldyou loseyouraccess number, call ATI for
assistancewithabypass sequence.
1. TypeofIon:X- Thisroutine allowsselection ofthe type ofISE sensorconnected tothe monitor.The
monitorwill acceptavarietyofion selectiveelectrodes.The fluoride sensorisanegativelycharged
monovalent ion, sothe factory setting isX-. The setting shouldnot be changed.
2. Measure U:PPM Thisroutine allowsselection ofthe unitsofmeasurement. The factory setting is
parts-per-million.Aselection of mg/lcan be made if desired byusing the UPorDOWNarrowstoselect

15. ALTYPE: CONT orFLASHThisroutine givesthe option, when alarmisactivated, toholdthe relaycoil
continuouslyofhavethe coil flash(cyclebetween energized and de-energized).The sub menu when AL
