Introduction
The ECHC-08-04 is a cost-effective unit designed to control electric chain hoists in the entertainment
industry.
It is packaged in an industry standard 3RU case made from 1.6mm and 1.2mm powder coated mild
steel and comes with handles for ease of use.
It provides 8 channels of low voltage control for 3 phase electric chain hoists. It features front panel
channel selection buttons, a clear selection button, an up/ down button, a remote power button,
power indicator, e-stop OK indicator, an emergency stop button and a rear panel phase direction
selection switch.
Hoist selection is by means of a momentary push button with orange illumination. Channel is
selected when illuminated. A clear selected button quickly de-selects all channels.
Over current protection is provided by four 10 Amp 3 pole circuit breakers mounted in the front
panel and a 6 Amp control circuit breaker. Each 3 pole circuit breaker feeds two channels of hoist
power.
An optional remote pendant allows an operator to select channels on the front panel then operate
up and down remotely. The remote pendant also has an emergency stop button.

Operation
As a guide, the following steps should help assisting with basic operation of the controller. Ensure all
standard operating procedures are followed.
•Connect motor cables to the 6 pole connectors on the rear of the controller
•Connect the controller to the mains supply
•Ensure the front panel circuit breakers are in the on position
•Ensure the emergency stop button is release on the front panel and the remote pendant if
connected. The power and e-stop OK indicators should now be illuminated
•Select one hoist and briefly press the up or down button and ensure the hoist moves in the
correct direction, repeat for all channels in use
•If all hoists move in the opposite direction swap the position of the phase selector on the
rear panel
•Select desired channels and operate as required
•Once movement has been completed, deselect all channels to avoid unwanted operation
If hoists move in opposite directions to each other, check motor cable and hoist
wiring. Running hoists with incorrect phase direction may cause damage.
Emergency stop
The controller has a basic emergency stop feature. When an emergency stop (e-stop) button is
pressed it isolates the power supply to the hoists. This should only be used when a hazardous
situation has occurred or may be about to arise.
To release an emergency stop button, twist clock-wise.
To disable the hoist controller, isolate the power supply to the controller or turn off the front panel
circuit breakers.

Remote Power Mode
To increase safety, power to the hoists is only live when the up or down button is pressed. To
provide power to the hoists at all times, Remote Power mode can be enabled. This is done by
pressing the Remote Power button on the front panel. When it is illuminated, power will be
provided to the hoist outputs at all times.
Remote Pendant
When the remote pendant is connected, the front panel up and down button is disabled to prevent
operation by two people simultaneously. Hoist selection is still made on the front panel.
Linking multiple units
Multiple units can be linked via the Link In and Link Out connectors on the rear panel. The Up, Down
and E-stop signals are passed to the next controller allowing for multiple units to be controlled from
one remote pendant.

pendant (if connected) are released.
•Hoist selected but no movement when up or down is pressed –check front panel circuit
breakers are in the on position.
•Hoist moves in opposite direction to up or down button –swap position of phase selector on
the rear panel.
•Hoists move in opposite directions to each other –check motor cable and hoist wiring.
DO NOT operate hoist with incorrect phase selection as damage may occur.
