Instructions for the user:
This operating manual describes the SunCool accessory (chiller) for the SUNTEST®XLS+ weathering instrument.
Please note that certain work may only be performed by appropriately qualied personnel.
The following personell are considered qualied:
• Operators who have acquired their knowledge in special training courses
• People who have been trained in the operation and operating possibilities of the SUNTEST XLS+ device and the
SunCool accessory based on this operating manual
• Persons who are capable of assessing the activity they perform based on their working experience and instruction
in the relevant safety conditions and of recognizing possible hazards at work
Service:
• Work on the electrical components may only be carried out by qualied personnel
Cleaning:
• Cleaning work on the accessory may only be carried out by trained personnel who have been instructed based on
this operating manual
Please read this operating manual carefully before using the accessory for the rst time in order to fully un-
derstand how to properly operate the accessory and how to avoid possible damages.
If special problems occur which are not explained in enough detail in this operating manual, please contact
the supplier for your own safety.

Instructions for the user:
The SunCool accessory is constructed according to state-of-the-art manufacturing processes and is safe to operate.
Nevertheless, this device could still be hazardous. Especially when it is operated by insufciently trained personnel
or when it is used improperly or for a use for which it was not intended.
Installation and maintenance work:
• Installation may only be carried out by an authorized and qualied air conditioning technician
• Electrical components may only be changed by a qualied electrician
Instruction and prevention of accidents:
• For personnel who work on and with this instrument, the owner must create written instructions in a comprehensible
form in the employee’s language based on this operating manual (FRG: Directive for the Prevention of Accidents,
UVV BGV A1)
• The work health and safety regulations of the trade cooperative associations (BGV A 3) must be observed
• Instruct the operating and cleaning personnel in the operation and care of the instrument based on these
instructions
• Unauthorized modications or conversions to the instrument are not permitted for safety reasons
Warranty:
Atlas MTT GmbH guarantees the safety and functional capability of the instrument only on condition that:
• Original spare parts or accessories approved by Atlas MTT are used
• Inspection and maintenance work are performed according to the given time intervals

1.2 General Safety Instructions
Use for the intended purpose:
• The SunCool is an accessory for the SUNTEST®XLS+ to supply cooling air at a constant temperature
• The device is suitable for continuous operation
• The SunCool has been tested for electromagnetic compatibility and is suitable for installation in an industrial
environment
• The SunCool can be operated both in closed rooms and outdoor installations
• In order to keep a constant room temperature for operation in closed rooms, an air extractor (technical ventilation)
with a suction capacity of approx. 700 W / 500 m³/h can be installed in the laboratory
Improper use:
• The SunCool is unsuitable for operation in areas where there is a risk of re or explosion
• It is not permitted to use the SunCool for cooling work or recreation rooms, or food and temperature sensitive
substances respectively

1.2 General Safety Instructions
Incoming power connection
The device can be operated on the following voltage:
• 230 V ± 10%, 50 / 60 Hz
The SunCool has beeen prepared, according to the order, for the electric power system.
Disposal:
OBSERVE THE REGULATIONS FOR DISPOSAL!
The manufacturers obligations to take back the equipment in accordance with
the respective national version of the European directive 2002/96/EG WEEE
(Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) apply since March 24, 2006.
RohS conformity:
The SunCool meets the requirements of the 2002/95/EG RohS directive (restriction of the use of certain hazardous
substances in electrical and electronic equipment) for equipment group 9.
Disposal of the packaging:
Please dispose of the packaging materials according to the valid disposal regulations. A list of used packaging
materials can be found in chapter 2, par. 2.1 “Packaging”.
CAUTION – special waste
The device is operated with the R410A coolant. This coolant may not be poured down the drain or lled into
containers and thrown in with domestic waste. The coolant must be disposed of by a company specializing
in coolants!

1.3 Safety Instructions for Coolant
Danger specications:
The R410A coolant is classied as a chemical with low toxicity. The maximum workplace concentration (MAK value)
should not exceed the following limit values:
Diuormethane CH2F2 and pentauorethane C2HF5: max. 1000 ppm and 3500 mg/cm³.
Handling of R410A may be dangerous in the case of:
• Direct contact with the skin
• Prolonged inhalation of coolant fumes
• Reaction of the chemical with intense heat and open ames
CAUTION – danger of burns!
Escaping coolant cools down rapidly. Contact with the R410A can lead to cold burns and frostbite.
Protective overalls, gloves, face mask and glasses must be worn for all work on the cooler.
WARNING – danger of intoxication!
If large amounts of R410A escape into the room atmosphere, fumes are produced that can lead to
intoxication or disturbance of the heart rate which could be fatal. Take immediate safety precautions
in case of heavy leakage from the coolant circuit.
• Air the room immediately, if safe to do so
• Leave the room and secure the entrances to prevent anyone else from entering the room
• Post signs alerting people to the possible danger of fumes!
• Inform the safety service or re department!
CAUTION – dangerous chemical reactions!
R410A reacts with naked lights or in contact with very hot surface to produce toxic or irritant substances.
Do not use uncovered lights in the vicinity of the cooler! Do not expose the cooler to excessive heat!

First aid measures:
The rst aid measures are only emergency measures or immediate help in the case of minor injuries; get victims into a
stable side position in the case of unconsciousness. A physician should always be consulted in the case of prolonged
contact with the coolant. Inform the physician that the injured person was exposed to R410A coolant (the physician
may not administer any drugs of the adrenaline-ephedrine group).
Contaminated clothing:
Remove contaminated clothing immediately if they are not stuck to the skin. Clothing which is stuck to the skin may
only be removed under medical supervision.
Skin contact with the coolant:
Thaw out contact points (burns) on the skin. Wash the affected area of the skin with generous amounts of warm water.
Retina contact with the coolant:
Rinse eye carefully with large amounts of water. Keep eyelids open for at least 10 minutes. Consult a physician.
Inhalation of coolant fumes:
Inform a doctor immediately. Get the victim into a well heated room and supply with fresh air; have a trained person
treat the victim with oxygen if he has inhaled large amounts of fumes. In case of intoxication symptoms, respirate
articially or with oxygen and apply a heart massage.
Ingestion of coolant:
Inform emergency doctor immediately. Get the victim into a stable side position to reduce the risk of vomiting. Do not
induce vomiting. If the victim is conscious, rinse out the mouth and throat and give water or a warm drink to drink.
Clearing up small amounts of R410A:
Put on protective clothing and seal the leak in the coolant circuit, if possible. Escaping coolant turns into a gas which
gathers near the oor as it is heavier than air. Therefore, air-out the laboratory well. Open several doors or exits to
the outside, if possible, to create a draft.

2Delivery of the Device
2.1 Packaging
The SunCool device is delivered in a stable packaging
crate. All packaging materials can be separated and are
recyclable.
• Corrugated cardboard outer packaging
• Polyethylene foil (PE)
• Polyethylene foam (PE)
• Plastic hooping bands (PP)
• Wooden pallet
2.2 Scope of Delivery
The SunCool is delivered in a condition not ready for
operation. Separately packed components must be as-
sembled before operating.
The scope of delivery includes:
Accessories:
• Condenser unit
• An evaporator unit with quick-release couplings
• Two hoses with couplings for connecting the evapora-
tor and condenser unit
• Data connection cable (connected with coolant hoses)

NOTE – hose connections
The coolant circuit is a closed system. The necessary
coolant lling volume is not affected by connection with
the quick-release couplings. A bending radius of at least
20 cm must be kept when laying the coolant hoses. Kinked
hoses should not be used.

3Requirements for the Installation Site
3.1 Room Climate
Climatic requirements for the operating room:
In continuous operation together with the SUNTEST XLS+
there is a constant change in the room climate due to the
hot air emitted by the radiator cooling and the condenser
unit as well as the cold air emitted by the evaporator unit.
Therefore, the device may only be installed in adequately
aired, dust-free rooms or must be connected to a suitable
technical ventilation unit.
Ambient conditions:
• Room temperatures of 18 °C to 25 °C
• Relative humidity of 50% max.
3.2 Room ventilation
The coolant is processed in the cooling system in different
aggregate states. The coolant is heavier than air in vapor
form. The room must therefore have sufcient ventilation
facilities near the oor. The doors of the room must have
ventilation slits near to the oor.
3.3 Installation
• Evaporator dimensions (W x D x H):
90 cm x 48 cm x 25 cm
• Evaporator weight: approx. 15 kg
• Condenser unit dimensions (W x D x H):
80 cm x 32 cm x 55 cm
• Condenser unit weight: 35 kg
• Place the evaporator unit on a stable laboratory bench
with a non-ammable surface and align the lab bench
horizontally
• Lift the evaporator unit to move it to avoid having the
rubber feet slip off the screws
NOTE –
minimum load capacity of the lab bench
The total dead weight of the SUNTEST®XLS+ and a Sun-
Cool is approx. 105 kg. Please note the minimum load
capacity of your lab bench.
CAUTION – overheating of the device!
If the air feed and discharge (of the SUNTEST XLS+) is
disturbed, the device overheats and can be damaged!
Keep the following minimum distances from adjacent
walls or objects when installing:
Front: 70 cm
Rear: 50 cm
Top: 70 cm
Sides: 50 cm

3.5 Transport
NOTE – Transport!
The instrument may only be transported by experienced
service personnel who have suitable tools.
3.6 Effects of Vibrations
The compressor of the condenser unit vibrates when the
coolant liquees. Therefore the chillerooler should not be
installed in the vicinity of machines or plants which are
sensitive to vibrations.
3.4 Heat Sources
No heat sources fed by open lights or which result in hot
surfaces may be used to heat the room.
CAUTION –
dangerous chemical reactions!
Leaking coolant can produce toxic or irritant sub-
stances in reaction with open lights or hot surfaces.
The cooler should not be installed in the immediate vicinity
of heat sources or exposed to direct sunlight because the
energy consumption of the cooling system is increased
by the effect of heat.

3.7 Installation and Space Requirements
Weight of the device:
• SUNTEST® XLS+ approx. 90 kg
• SUNTEST XLS+ and SunCool approx. 105 kg
CAUTION –
cutting and crushing injuries!
To place the SUNTEST XLS+ on the SunCool, lift the
SUNTEST XLS+ by the four handles (mount them if
they are not already installed). Otherwise there is a
danger of crushing in the lifted cover of the SunCool!
Wear protective gloves for all installation work!
NOTE – load at the installation site
If several devices are installed in one place, the static load
capacity of the installation site must be ensured.
NOTE – holding points on the SUNTEST XLS+
The SUNTEST XLS+ may only be held and lifted by the
handles (to be mounted if necessary).
Installing the device (Fig. 1):
Place the SunCool either on the oor or on a stable, non-
ammable lab bench and align horizontally.
Placing the SUNTEST XLS+ on the SunCool:
Lift the SUNTEST XLS+ 1with the handles 2and place
on the SunCool 3with the rubber feet over the two (see
arrow in drawing) xed points on the cover of the SunCool.
The two xed points on the cover serve to position the
SUNTEST XLS+ on the accessory.

5.1 Device Function
The SunCool device allows the SUNTEST®XLS+ to sup-
ply cooling air to the test chamber. The cooling capacity
generated in the evaporator trough by the test chamber
fan is fed into the test chamber and returned to the evapo-
rator trough through the device exhaust air opening (air
circulation operation). Fig. 5.1
Function of the cooler:
The coolant is fed into the condenser unit in a gaseous
state (see g. 4.1, page 17); here the coolant is trans-
formed from a gas to a liquid aggregate state in a com-
pression process which causes its coolant temperature
to drop. In the liquid, cold state the coolant ows through
the lead pipe (liquid gas pipe) into the evaporator unit. The
ns of the evaporator unit offer a sufciently large metal
surface, the inherent temperature of which is reduced by
the coolant owing through it.
The test chamber fan of the SUNTEST XLS+ device draws
air into the evaporator trough and delivers it into the test
chamber, the temperature of which is then regulated ac-
cordingly. The air is then fed back into the evaporator
trough and passed through the evaporator unit again (air
circulation operation). The introduced air is cooled on the
cold ns surface as it ows through.
The coolant is heated by the heat exchanger and is trans-
formed back into a gaseous state. It returns via the return
line (suction gas pipe) to the condenser unit where the
cooling process begins again.
NOTE – freezing!
Freezing is unlikely in the system, but please contact our
Technical Service staff in the event that it does occur.
5.2 Setting the Test Parameters
The minimum test chamber temperature (CHT) and black
standard temperature (BST) in the SUNTEST are directly
dependent on the ambient temperature. The higher the
ambient temperature, the higher the blow-in temperature
of the cooler and as a result the minimum CHT and BST.

6.1 Starting up for the rst time
NOTE – starting for the rst time
The device may only be started for the first time by
an Atlas Technical Service Representative or authorized
service companies.
6.2 Checking the Device Components

WARNING – electric shock!
Touching live parts can lead to life threaten-
ing electric shocks. Disconnect the device
from the power supply before testing!
• Pull the electrical plug out of the recep-
tacle and secure against reconnecting
• Check whether the instrument is voltage
free
Only device parts which are in perfect condition en-
sure the functional reliability of the SunCool and the
SUNTEST®XLS+ device. Check the device components
and parts listed below for damage and operation before
starting or before every new test run. Damaged or worn
parts may not be used.
Checklist:
The following parts must be checked before starting:
• Seat and tightness of the quick-release coupling
• Condition of the coolant lines
• Condition of plugs and power cables

6.3 Closing the Coolant Circuit
Fig. 6.1: The coolant circuit of the SunCool device must
be closed for start up. The quick-release couplings on the
back of the evaporator trough must be connected for this:
Screw the line labeled “in” 1to the appropriate coupling
(upper coupling) labeled “in” 3 (wrench size 30).
Screw the line labeled “out” 2to the appropriate coupling
(lower coupling) labeled “out” 4.
Then pull the insulators over the couplings.
Connecting the condensation drain of the evapora-
tor unit:
The condensation produced in the evaporator unit in the
heat exchange is discharged at the drain spout 5.
The condensation can be collected in a waste water vessel.
Alternatively the condensation drain can be connected to
a sewer drain on site. This is provided that the evaporator
unit is installed at a height which allows draining by gravity.
Connecting the waste water pump:
If it is necessary to pump off the condensation, a micro
pump (delivery volume 12 l/h) can be connected (option-
ally) between the connection spouts and the drain hose.
The micro-pump is equipped with an internal floating
contact and only switches on when there is a sufcient
amount of condensation.

2. Lay the drain hose 5of the micro pump to the waste
water channel or into the waste water vessel.
3. Insert the plug 6of the micro pump into a properly
earthed and fused receptacle.
4. Make sure that no tensile or tractive forces act on the
power cables.
WARNING – electric shock!
Touching live parts can lead to life threaten-
ing electric shocks. Check plugs and power
cables of the micro pump for damage before
connecting to the incoming power.
Damaged parts may not be used for electrical
connection!
