Owner's Manual

Important Notice
It is unlawful in most jurisdictions for a person to drive a motor
vehicle which is equipped with a television viewer or screen
that is located in the motor vehicle at any point forward of the
back of the driver’s seat, or that is visible, directly or indirectly,
to the driver while operating the vehicle. In the interest of
safety, the VBPEX5 should never be installed where it will be
visible, directly or indirectly, by the operator of the motor
vehicle.
Warnings
Do not use any solvents or cleaning materials when cleaning
the video Monitor.
Do not use any abrasive cleaners, they may scratch the
screen. Use only a lightly dampened lint free cloth to wipe the
screen if it is dirty.
Before putting on headphones always adjust the volume
setting to the lowest position.
Do not put pressure on the screen.
Caution children to avoid touching or scratching the screen, as
it may become dirty or damaged.

A. Introduction
ThankyouforselectingtheVBPEX5,5inchLiquidCrystalDisplay(LCD)Monitor. The
VBPEX5canbeconnectedtotheVBP3000andVBP4000,(PleasecontactAudiovox's
retailers).TheconnectionoftheMonitorisplugandplay.TheMonitorutilizesthelatest
state of the art electronics and is designed for use in vehicles, hotels, offices or your
homeandisconstructedtoprovideyearsofreliable,trouble-freeservice.Pleaseread
theentire manualpriortooperation. Thisdocumentationwillassistyouininstallingthe
system properly to obtain the best equipment performance.
B. Cautions
1.Useonlytheapprovedpowercable(AC/DCAdapterorDINcable)suppliedwiththis
Monitor. When the system is left unattended and unused for long periods of time,
unplugitfromthepowersource. Alwaysdisconnectthepowersourcefirstandthen
the jack from the system.
2. Ensure that the Monitor is installed in accordance with the instructions and
illustrations provided in this manual. Do not use the system in the front seat while
operating your vehicle.
3.Topreventfireorelectricshock,donotexposethisappliancetorain,moistureorlong
periodsofdirectsunlight. Keeptheunitawayfromsourcesof heat. Donotoperate
orstoretheunitclosetostrongmagneticfields. Donotspillorsprayliquidofanykind
on or in the system (this may result in a fire or electric shock).
4.To ensureproperventilation,nevercoverorblocktheslotsandopeningswithacloth
or other material.
5.To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not remove the back cover of the unit.
There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Contact qualified service personnel if
your system is in need of repair.
6.Whencleaning,makesurethesystemisunplugged frompowersource. Donotuse
liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a cloth lightly dampened with water for
cleaning the exterior of the system only.

D. Positioning the Monitor
Option 1 Vehicle Headrest (Refer to Figure 1)

Loop the strap of the pouch around the headrest in the vehicle, and pull the end
of the strap while holding the buckle until the pouch is tightly secured.
Option 2 Flat Surface (Refer to Figure 2)

Rotate the base of Monitor backward and place it on a flat surface. Adjust the
screen for a proper viewing angle. This can be done with the Monitor inside or
outside the pouch. 3

F. Powering the Unit
NOTE: Whenthe VBPEX5 isconnected to eithera VBP3000 orVBP4000using
the supplied DIN cable, there is no need for a power source to be connected to
the DC 12V IN jack.

Option 2 Vehicle Power (Refer to Figure 5)
UsingtheAC/DCadaptersuppliedwiththeVBPEX5,plugtheconnectorendinto
theDC12VINjackonthesideoftheMonitor. PlugtheAC/DCadapterintoa120
VAC power receptacle. This can be done with the Monitor inside or outside the
pouch.
Using thecigarettelighteradaptersupplied,plugtheconnectorendintotheDC12V
INjackonthesideoftheMonitor.Plugthecigarettelighteradapterintothecigarette
lighter socket. This can be done with the Monitor inside or outside the pouch.

G. Connecting to the VBP3000/VBP4000
Option 1 Using Two Monitors (Refer to Figure 6 and 7)

Using the DIN cable supplied with the VBPEX5, connect one end of the DIN cable to
the Monitor Port (Input) located on the side of the Monitor. Connect the other end of
theDIN cable to theeither of the Monitor Ports(Output) on the rearofthe VBP3000 or
the side of the VBP4000. When the VBP3000/VBP4000 is operational, audio/video

signals,power (12Volt DC)and Infraredcontrol signals arerouted through theDIN
cable to the Monitor. Since the Monitor is deriving power from the VBP3000/
VBP4000, there is no need for a power source to be connected to DC 12V IN jack
located on the Monitor.
NOTE: If connecting the Monitor to the VBP4000 be certain to slide the TV/VCP
select switch located on the face of the Monitor to the VCP position.
H. Using External Audio/Video Sources (Refer to Figure 8)
ConnecttheVBPEX5toanexternalpowersource. RefertoFigure4andFigure
5. Plugtheexternalsourceaudio/videosignalsintotheappropriatejacksonthe
side of the Monitor. Plug the video output from an auxiliary source such as
Camcorder, VideoGame, DVDPlayer,VideoCassettePlayeretc.intotheyellow
Video In jack. Plug the left audio signal into the white jack. Plug the right
audio signal into the red jack.

I. Using Headphones (Refer to Figure 8)
OptionalwiredheadphonesmaybeusedwiththeMonitor.Simplyplugintheheadset
to the headphone jack on the side of the Monitor and both internal speakers will be
turned off.
J. Operation (Refer to Figure 3)
1.Slide the POWER ON/OFF switch to the on position to turn the
Monitor on. The POWER LED will light.
2.When connecting the VBPEX5 Monitor to the VBP3000, slide the TV/
VCP switch to the appropriate position for selecting the TV or VCP
mode. 7

3. When connecting the VBPEX5 Monitor to the VBP4000, slide the TV/
VCP switch to the VCP position.
4. When connecting an external signal source to the VIDEO IN, AUDIO L
IN, AUDIO R IN jacks on the VBPEX5, the TV/VCP switch can be set
to either the TV or VCP position.
5. Use the BRIGHTNESS UP/DOWN control to adjust the picture to
desired setting.
6. Use the VOLUME UP/DOWN control to decrease or increase volume
level.

product that should this product or any part thereof, under normal use and conditions, be

such defect(s) will be repaired or replaced with new or reconditioned product (at the
Company's option) without charge for parts and repair labor.

This Warranty does not extend to the elimination of car static or motor noise, to correction of
antenna problems, to costs incurred for installation, removal, or reinstallation of the product,
or damage to tapes, compact discs, speakers, accessories, or vehicle electrical systems.
This Warranty does not apply to any product or part thereof which, in the opinion of the
Company,hassufferedorbeendamagedthroughalteration,improperinstallation,mishandling,
misuse,neglect, accident, or by removal ordefacement of the factory serialnumber/bar code
label(s). THE EXTENT OF THE COMPANY'S LIABILITY UNDER THIS WARRANTY IS
LIMITED TO THE REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT PROVIDED ABOVE AND, IN NO EVENT,
SHALL THE COMPANY'S LIABILITY EXCEED THE PURCHASE PRICE PAID BY
