1.0 GENERAL AND REGULATORY INFORMATION
Before operating this unit, please read this entire manual carefully. Retain
the manual for future reference.
Follow all instructions in this manual when installing, operating and
maintaining the equipment
The owner is responsible for any material and personal losses caused by
violations of the requirements set forth in this manual
Pay attention to all safety regulations. Dangerous or unsafe use may be
hazardous. Only qualified personnel shall perform equipment installation.
Only fully trained users should operate the equipment. Operators must
follow instructions for proper use, maintenance and safety guidelines by
local safety regulations.
Only authorized service personnel are allowed to perform maintenance of
the equipment. While performing equipment maintenance and repair, only
authorized personnel are permitted at the work site. The apparatus should
not be operated by a person who may be sick, or under the influence of
drugs or alcohol.
Always connect the device to a grounded electrical outlet.
Before maintaining, cleaning or moving the equipment turn off the main
power supply. Use the equipment with the original accessories only.
Use a damp cloth to clean the equipment. Do not use any chemicals or
liquid detergents to clean the equipment.
The end user is responsible for the final calibration of the equipment. The
end user is also responsible for performing
appropriate tests to detect
objects on a regular basis to ensure the calibration values are at the desired
level.

Thank you for purchasing this Aventura walk-through metal detector. The following important
material is intended to advise you how to instal and operate this product safely and correctly. Please
read it carefully make sure you understand these points before you move on to other parts of the
manual.

1. This product is intended for indoor use only. If it is necessary to install the product outdoors, it should
be protected by a rain shed or other facilities to prevent exposure to rain and excessive sunlight.
2. To avoid interference, there should be no large metal objects nor strong magnetic fields within 2
meters of the walk-through metal detector. If there is a metal structure near the installation site, the
distance between the walk-through metal detector and metal structure shall be at least 70cm; take into
consideration the size of the metal structure and increase the separation if necessary. Electronic
products, such as generators, televisions and other similar products should be excluded from the
immediate area. Sizeable moving metal objects such as revolving doors and vehicles should be avoided.
If using more than one metal detector in the same area, be sure to choose different working frequencies
(see section 4.3 below).
3. The installation location should avoid power lines and communication cables.
4. The metal detector shall not be installed in high temperature nor high humidity environments (refer
to specifications).
5. Only authorized, trained professional service personnel should be allowed to access and repair the
components of this metal detector.
6. The walk through a metal detector will achieve the best detection results after a 1-minute self-check.
7. The metal detector must be installed on a flat, vibration-free surface; it is essential to avoid any
contact with the detector frame when passing through to prevent false alarms caused by the motion of
the metal detector.
8. The following instructions are for the initial product installation and daily operation of the
equipment. Deviations from these instructions should only be made to comply with local laws,
regulations and government requirements.
9. The Manufacturer reserves the right to change the structure, software or accessories of the
equipment, or the contents of this manual without notice.

This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a class B digital device, under
part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection
against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses
and can radiate radio frequency energy and if not installed and used by the instructions,
may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no
guarantee that interference will not occur in an installation. If this equipment does
cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the
equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the
following measures:
•Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The MD-WT-A24 Walk through metal detector (Figure 1) employs advanced detection technology,
specially designed for the detection of metal and alloy objects hidden near a human body. Delivering high
reliability, high applicability, high sensitivity detection with self-adaptive sensitivity adjustment, wide
detection range and strong resistance to interference, capable of active service around the clock, able to
sound an alarm as needed, screening large numbers of people efficiently to world-class standards.
The sensitivity can be adjusted, allowing detection of small metal items, as small in size as paper clips,
as it distinguishes the location of the hidden metal object. Users can control the settings to detect metal
objects according to their size, volume, and weight, etc., and to exclude false alarms resulting from coins,
keys, jewelry and belt buckles, etc.
These walk-through metal detectors can be employed in high-security loss prevention applications
involving precious metals such as in industrial and mining enterprises, and in banks as well as other

situations designed to prevent the entry of dangerous metal objects, such as at airports, customs, prisons,
exhibition halls, sporting events, etc.
If installed outdoors, the walkthrough metal detector should be protected from rain and direct
sunlight. Also, avoid installing the walkthrough metal detector in a high temperature or high humidity
environment.

OPERATING MODES
NORMAL OPERATION
The detector will indicate when it is ready to screen the next person and will automatically signal an
alarm along with location guidance information for any metal detected.
STANDBY:
When the detector is idle over 10 minutes (time can be set from 1 to 99 minutes), it will change to
standby status. This only blanks the display screen, which can be restored by pressing any key on the
unit or on the remote control; the screen will also restore when anyone passes through.
DORMANCY
When the standby time is set for less than 10 minutes, and the detector is idle longer than the standby
time, the detector will shift to dormant status after one hour. When dormant, only the CPU is active. If
the standby time is set to longer than 10 minutes, the detector will shift to inactive status after “standby
time X 6” (If set to 12 minutes, the dormancy time will be 12X6=72 minutes). Press the “power on key”
to wake up the unit from dormancy.
SYSTEM CHECK
System self-checks for faults during the boot process.
TERMINOLOGY
The following terms are used in this manual:
WTMD
Walkthrough Metal Detector.
Sensitivity
A parameter used to define the size of the detected metal object. As
sensitivity is increased, the size of the detected
metal objects will
become smaller.
Discrimination
The ability of a metal detector to distinguish between different types
of metals and other harmful goods and weapons. Discrimination may
be influenced by several factors including the sensitivity settings,
changes in weather, and more. In addition to discovering dangerous
target objects such as weapons, the proper level of discrimination can
enable screening for other objects of interest as well.
Harmless Alarm
An alarm caused by a person who walks through the WTMD with
harmless objects.
False Alarm
An alarm caused by reasons other than metal objects, such as
electronic interference. An alarm caused by metal objects (harmless or
useful) is not considered a false alarm.

Alarm Rate
The percentage of the number of alarms caused by metal objects
compared to the total number of persons passing through the WTMD.
Alarm rates are affected by the discrimination ability of the WTMD. For
example, if discrimination is weak,
some alarms may be caused by
harmless metal objects, and in turn, alarm rates will be higher.
Pass Rate
The maximum number of people able to pass through the WTMD
during a given period of time, without having any effect on the
detection performance of the WTMD. Pass rate shows the ability of
the WTMD to return to the standby state after people pass through.
Object Speed
Response
The ability to maintain a constant sensitivity level when people pass
through the WTMD at different speeds.
Calibration
The steps are taken to set the parameter values of the WTMD to
achieve optimum performance. Parameter values will be based on the
requirements of the operation site.
Parallel Use
When two or more WTMDs are placed close to each other. In this case,
their electromagnetic fields may influence the WTMD operation. Using
different operation frequencies can reduce interference between
WTMD’s within close proximity.
Operating Frequency
The frequency at which the WTMD will operate. The WTMD has many
different operation frequencies, and when the WTMD is calibrated at
the installation site, the lowest interference operation frequency
should be chosen.
Detection Uniformity
Uniform sensitivity is maintained within the entire detection area of
the WTMD regardless of the shape, size, and direction of the metal
objects. Detection uniformity can affect the identification ability of the
WTMD directly. Typically, the sensitivity of the WTMD is set according
to the weakest detecting position. If detection uniformity is poor, it can
cause unnecess
arily high sensitivity in other locations within the
channel, and discrimination capabilities may be significantly reduced.
While testing detection uniformity, the installer should use real
objects, such as weapons or objects that may simulate weapons.
Cylinder or sphere shaped items used during testing may lead to wrong
conclusions in relation to detection uniformity.
Anti-Interference
The operation of the WTMD can be altered by electronic or mechanical
interference. Electronic interference is usually cau
sed by other
electronic equipment located near the installation site. Electronic
interference may also be caused by the main power cord conduction
or radiation interference. Mechanical interference may be caused by
the reaction of moving of metal objects,
walls or floor structures
located near the WTMD.
Key Test Objects
Objects used in a set of testing equipment that requires the highest
detection sensitivity and are the most difficult to detect.

PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION AND DESIGN CRITERIA
This walkthrough metal detector operates on electromagnetic, magnetic pulse
technologies. Electronic components will sample or process the current the receptor receives.
Metal objects are detected when the signal exceeds the alarm threshold. This kind of
walkthrough metal detector is a multi-channel metal detector with 24 overlapping detection
zones. Each detection zone produces a pulsed magnetic field.
When different shapes of metal objects from different directions pass through the
detector, the differences in sensitivity are reduced due to the overlapping structures. Each zone
has significant differences in order to detect metal objects at different heights. Advanced
microprocessor technology is used for digital signal processing and internal control. This enables
reliable metal detection capabilities, comprehensive features, as well as a user-friendly operation.
SITE PREPARATION
When determining the installation site for the WTMD, several important factors need to
be considered to ensure the best-operating conditions and security checkpoint for the maximum
flow of people.
It is essential to minimize any effects on the operation of the WTMD produced by different
interference sources.

Small Metallic Objects
The minimum distance from small metallic objects shall be at least 4
inches (10cm) away from the WTMD in order to detect large metal
items. This will have little effect on the sensitivity but could make the
WTMD more susceptible to false alarms.
Large Metal Objects or
Strong Magnetic Field
The minimum distance from large metal objects (or strong magnetic
fields) shall be a minimum of 6 feet (2 meters).
Ground
The ground should be flat with a solid support to prevent vibration.
This is especially important when there is a presence of vibration of
the metal structure under the surface as this may cause unnecessary
false alarms when people walk through the detector.
Moving Metal Objects
Moving metal objects outside of the WTMD should be kept a distance
of 20” to 79” (0.5m-2m) away from the opening to avoid false alarms.
Based on the size of the metal objects, the distance needed between
the metal objects and the WTMD may be different.
Surge Protection
Provide adequate surge protection to the WTMD.
Electrical Interference
The distance between the electronic interference source and the
receiving coil should be the greatest. The recommended minimum
distance should be 20” to 79” (0.5m-2m). However, the actual range
will depend on actual
conditions. For example, you can move the
WTMD and the interference source to find the best position.
Interference can be caused by an electronic control panel, radios and
computers, image displays, high-power motors and transformers, AC
cords, control circuits, flash welding equipment, fluorescent tubes,
and other equipment.
When installing the unit, place the receiving coil (Rx) as far away from
the interference source as practical.
The distances shown are the recommended distances
. The actual
distances will be determined based on the installation site conditions.
Electrical interference sources: 4” (0.1m)
Moving metal objects: 20” to 79” (0.5m to 2m)
Fixed metal objects: 20” to 157” (0.5m to 4m)
The distance above is a recommended distance, the actual distance
to be decided upon installation conditions.
When installing the unit, position the unit so that the receiving coil
(Rx) is farther away from the interference source than the transmit
panel.
The distance between WTMD and interference sources is sufficient if,
when the device is ready, the indicator in the display area shows no
more than 1-2 bars.

2.0 INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS
COMPONENTS OF THE SYSTEM

ⅠThe Main control unit includes the data acquisition and control board, touch panel LCD display,
magnetic and IR transmission, detection circuitry and power supply. It is the core module of the system.
ⅡLeft side panel and Ⅲright side panel:Provide a connection point for external power, emit and
capture the signals employed for detection, and display alarm related LED indications along the edge to
indicate the locations of detected materials.
Ⅳ.Detection channel:Formed by the Main Control Unit and the Side Panels, this is the detection area
through which persons to be screened must pass.
V. Remote control unit:Used primarily for setup and troubleshooting, allows operation of the metal
detector without having to touch the display unit.
CHECKPOINT LAYOUT
To achieve the maximum flow of people, the plan for checkpoints should be developed
carefully before installing the device. In addition to considering mechanical and electronic
interference, factors at the installation site and other security checkpoints should be
appropriately organized and expertly evaluated. Consider the following suggestions when
designing the checkpoints:
-Arrange the queues waiting to enter the detectors to ensure that only one person
passes through the WTMD at a time;

-The search to locate metal objects detected by the WTMD should not interfere with
the normal operation of the WTMD;
-Arrange the manual checking of hand-held luggage items to avoid false alarms;
-If X-Ray machines are not used, you should manually check luggage.

PARALLEL OPERATION
Parallel Operation refers to when two or more detectors are positioned close to each
other for operating purposes. With the parallel operation, the WTMDs might interfere with each
other to a certain extent. Interference levels will depend on the distance between the WTMDs,
operation frequencies, and sensitivities.
This equipment has different operation frequencies, which can reduce the interference
of adjacent detectors and can permit reliable parallel operation. In parallel operation, it is
particularly recommended that the operating frequency is set to F1, F2 or F3. According to the
combinations of F1, F2 and F3, and the sensitivity, the minimum distance of parallel detectors is
about 14 inches. In parallel mode, you can also use frequencies of F4 and F5, but in such
conditions, the minimum distance will be more significant compared with using only frequencies
of F1, F2, and F3.
The separation distance during parallel operation depends on the
sensitivity level and the frequency combination.
The minimum
operation distance is decided by the conditions of the installation site.

Parallel operation of two metal detectors
Install the detectors as shown in Figure 4.
To achieve the minimum spacing when in
parallel operation,
put the two receive
panels (Rx) or the transmit panel (Tx) as
close as possible. In general,
make the
spacing between the two receiver panels
to be the shorter distance, and the spacing
between the two transmit panels
to be
larger distance.
If there are interference sources
, place
the transmit panel, so
it is the panel
closest to the sources
of interference,
with the receiving panel on the side away
from the interference.
Select frequency combinations to
minimize interference. Do not operate
adjacent WTMD on the same frequencies.

ASSEMBLING THE UNIT
Properly trained contractors shall perform equipment installation and calibration.
Carefully open the packaged boxes and remove the panels from the boxes

Arrange the left and right panels as shown below and open the main chassis package box

Assemble the panels to the main chassis. Use a hex tool to tighten the bolts.

Use the key to open the main control unit cover, insert the left and right connectors into the side panels,
then connect the power supply plug into one of the side panels. Note: the external power supply cable
must be plugged into the base of that side panel where the power supply plug was connected.
Close and lock the main control unit cover and if you have not already done so, stand up the metal
detector unit and place it in the intended operating location.
There is a power socket on the back of the left or right-side panel. Connect the power cord and plug the
other end into an outlet providing 85–264V/AC power. The metal detector will turn on automatically if
the external power supply is plugged in the side panel where the power supply was connected.
SITE SELECTION CONSIDERATIONS
The location where the detector will be placed should be smooth, level and free of obstructions; must
be constructed to be able to support the combined weight of the detector and all persons who will be
working or waiting in the area. The surface must be stable and free of motion or vibration.
The detector is intended for indoor use only. If it is necessary to install the detector outdoors, it should
be protected by rain shed, tent or other facilities to prevent exposure to rain, wind, different weather
and/or excessive sunlight.
The site must allow for access and egress of the persons being screened, as well as space for staff to
operate the detector.
PRECAUTIONS
To prevent any potential injury caused by the unit being toppled by unanticipated encounters with
persons or moving objects, be sure to attach the unit securely to the ground using appropriate anchors.
Make sure all wires are properly secured, and no trip hazards exist.
If multiple detectors are used close to each other, they should be spaced at least 30–50cm apart and the
frequency of operation of each should be adjusted to reduce mutual interference.

INITIAL TURN-ON AND SELF-TEST
After system turn on the systems enters the self-check interface (Figure 15), displays an image of the
walkthrough metal detector, and self-checks the voltage and zones, then enters standby mode.

At the bottom of the standby screen (Figure 16), the green
bar is an indication of interference intensity. This may be
changed by adjusting the sensitivity in the programming
screens.
4.0 PROGRAMMING AND ADJUSTING SETTINGS
LOGIN
Press the Enter button to be prompted for the password
(see Figure 17), Use the + and -keys to increase/decrease
the number in each position, and press the >> and << keys
to move between positions; the initial password is:
000000. A short press on the Power button will return to
the previous menu; a long press with turn the power
off/on.
