Stage 64 PSU Replacement
Stage 64 PSU Replacement
This document shows how to replace the PSUs (Power Supply Units) in Avid®VENUE Stage 64 I/O units.
Stage 64 units have two PSUs for redundancy. The procedure is similar when replacing either PSU, and any differences are noted in this
guide.
After collecting the required items, listed below, proceed to Prepare the I/O Rack Unit.
Required Items
This procedure requires the following items:
• Replacement PSU
• 4x cable ties (nylon, 14W or similar)
• #1 Phillips screwdriver (6-inch or longer)
• A clean, padded work surface
• Anti-static wrist strap (not included). Make sure you are electrically grounded and discharge static before working
Prepare the I/O Rack Unit
Do the following to prepare your Stage 64:
1Shut down your VENUE system and power down your Stage 64.
2Disconnect all cables from your Stage 64.
3Remove the back panel by loosening the eight captive thumbscrews completely, using a #2 Phillips screwdriver if necessary, and set
the panel aside.

Remove the Old PSU
To remove either the right or left PSU you must first remove all Input and Output cards from slots A–M.
To remove a Stage 64 PSU:
1Identify which PSU (left or right, while facing the back of the unit) you will be replacing.
2Starting at the far right and working to your left, disconnect ribbon cables from all I/O cards.

3Loosen the captive thumbscrew securing each card to the chassis.
4Loosen the two captive thumbscrews securing the front of each card to the front of the IO unit.
5Carefully slide each card out of its slot.
To get it started, gently push the back of the card towards the front of the unit, then gently pull each card out from the front and set
them on your padded work surface. Do not stack the cards on top of each other.
6Carefully cut all cable ties bundling the two cable harnesses together and/or securing the harnesses to the bottom of the chassis.
• Some cable ties must be accessed from the back of the chassis, while others from the front.

7Move to the back of the Stage 64 and carefully disconnect the multi-colored PSU cable for the PSU you are replacing from the back
of the Controller assembly.
8Using a #1 Philips screwdriver, remove the two screws indicated in Figure 9 that secure the power switch for the PSU being removed
to the Stage 64 chassis.
9Using a #1 Philips screwdriver, remove the four screws indicated in Figure 10 that secure the PSU to the Stage Rack.
10 Push the PSU in towards the front of the Stage 64 and carefully lift it out of the chassis.
11 Proceed to Install the New PSU.

Install the New PSU
To install the new PSU:
1Carefully insert the new PSU into position in the Stage Rack.
• Make sure the switch is aligned and passes through its opening in the chassis back panel.
• Make sure the power harnesses are not underneath the PSU.
• Make sure the PSU seats fully into position.
2Using a #1 Philips screwdriver, replace the four screws shown in Figure 10 that secure the PSU to the Stage Rack.
3Using a #1 Philips screwdriver, replace the two screws shown in Figure 9 that secure the power switch for the PSU to the chassis.
4Carefully connect the 24-pin power cable from the new PSU to its port on the Controller assembly as shown in Figure 8.
5Secure the PSU power harness to the Stage 64 by replacing the cable ties you removed previously.
6Proceed to Reinstall I/O Cards.
Reinstall I/O Cards
After installing the new PSU, reinstall all I/O cards.
Reinstall all Input and Output Cards into the Stage 64 by doing the following:
1Make sure the latches on the port on the back of each card are pushed inward (closed).
2Gently slide the first card into its slot. Make sure that the card is oriented correctly in the unit, with the mounting guide pin and port
at the top, and also be sure to insert the card straight so that it fits along the slot channel built into the unit.
3Inside the back of the unit, make sure the pin at the top of each card aligns with the corresponding chassis guide hole (Figure 11).
4Push the card into the slot so it is flush with the front panel, and tighten the two captive thumbscrews on the front of the card to secure
it to the Stage unit.
5Inside the back of the Stage unit, tighten the single captive thumbscrew to secure each card to the chassis.
Make sure the port latches are pushed inward before proceeding.

If the card does not slide all the way into the slot, make sure the latches on the port of the card are pushed fully inward.

6Inside the back of the unit, push the latches on the card outward (open).
7Repeat for all other cards.
8Reconnect all ribbon cables, starting with the first (shortest) ribbon cable.
Push the cable connector into the port on the card so that the latches on the port move inward and lock the connector to the port on
the card. Double-check to make sure the card is connected securely.
9Replace the back panel on the Stage 64.
Make sure to properly orient the panel, align the back panel guide pins to the guide holes, and secure it to the Stage 64 by tightening
the eight captive thumbscrews.
10 Proceed to Confirming Installation.
Confirming Installation
Confirm installation by connecting your Stage 64 to your S6L system and power the system on. Make sure the unit is detected and no
PSU alerts are displayed.
