10. Operation and installation
10.1 Step-by-step installation guide
In order to install this product correctly, please follow the steps below:
1. The open/close transmitter can be used for various types of installation.
2. Mount the switches on boundary points that should be monitored.
3. Mount the magnet facing the switches on a moving part indicating the open or closed
status.
4. Make sure that the transmitter, wires, switches and magnet are placed without
interrupting the operation of valves or similar.
5. In order to secure a correct operation, make sure that the magnet is aligned in front of
the switches within 5 mm distance.
6. Mount the transmitter in a location with good radio connection using the included steel
bracket.
10.2 Operation description
AVK Smart Water’s VIDI Open/Close transmitter is equipped with a long-lasting non-
rechargeable lithium battery-powered device that allows the acquisition of physical quantities
and sending them using low-power radio equipment.
The transmitter sends a data package every 30 minutes containing the current status of the
valve. The magnet can either be aligned in front of the open switch, in between or in front of the
closed switch. The transmitter sends a package every time the magnet occurs in front of one of
the switches.
10.3 Activation/deactivation
Transmitters are shipped with radio mode off. Once the installation of the device is complete,
the transmitter must be activated. This is done by using an Android (5.0 or later) phone with
NFC interface (E.g. Samsung S10e).
To activate the device, it is necessary to download an application called “VIDI Tool”. Download
the application from Google Play store. If the application is hard to find, it is recommended to
search for “VIDI Tool ASW” in the search bar on Google Play store. The application icon should
look like the icon shown below:

Open the app and place the phone at the NFC symbol on the VIDI transmitter like illustrated
below.
NOTE If the phone does not connect to the device, adjust the phone’s position a bit and try
again.
To activate the radio, press “ACTIVATE” without moving the phone from the NFC symbol on the
VIDI transmitter. To disable the radio, press “DEACTIVATE”.
Deactivating the radio after it have been connected to the network, will reset the uplink
counter in the device and might cause some loss of data packages. This is only regarding
devices connected to a LoRa network.

The battery included in the transmitter guarantees a minimum of 10

replacing the battery enclosed. Replace it with a battery of the same
characteristics, the same connector and the same polarity:
Battery type: Non-rechargeable lithium ions

Size: C
Once the battery is replaced in the case of LoRaWAN transmitters, the message
counters are reset to zero. You must then also reset LoRa server-side.
