About the Product
HomePlugAV s ready to use out of the box and does not requ re the nstallat on of dr ver
software to work. It can be connected to computers, routers, gam ng consoles, hubs,
IPTV set-top boxes, and other Ethernet dev ces regardless of operat ng system.
How Does It Work?
HomePlugAV ut l zes the ex st ng electr cal w r ng n the house as a path to create a
secured network of computers and Ethernet dev ces. W th a max mum data rate of up to
500 Mbps, HomePlugAV can rel ably handle h gh requ rement appl cat ons l ke broadband
Internet, h gh def n t on v deo stream ng, and Vo ce over IP.
HomePlugAV converts d g tal s gnals to a complex analog s gnal that traverses along the
electr cal w res. When rece v ng the analog s gnal, HomePlugAV converts the analog
s gnal back to d g tal. To make the s gnal secured, a 128-b t AES encrypt on s appl ed.
A HomePlugAV dev ce can only commun cate w th other HomePlugAV dev ces that use
the same Pr vate Network Name. The Pr vate Network Name can be changed manually
us ng the HomePlugAV Ut l ty software on a computer w th a W ndows operat ng system.
When you use the software, you have to manually type the Pr vate Network Name for
the dev ce. Another way to change the Pr vate Network Name s to use the S mple
Connect button. S mple Connect automat cally creates an encrypted Pr vate Network
Name. It can also be used to reset the Pr vate Network Name or to add a dev ce nto an
ex st ng HomePlugAV network.

When a HomePlugAV commun cates w th another dev ce, the Powerl ne Act v ty LED
color w ll g ve you an dea about the connect on rate: Red means below 30 Mbps; Amber
means 30 to 80 Mbps; and Green means more than 80 Mbps.

Pa r ng the Dev ce
Your HomePlugAV dev ces by default are preconf gured to have a common Pr vate
Network Name. Sett ng up your HomePlugAV network s as easy as 1,2 and 3.
1. Plug n your HomePlugAV dev ces s de by s de to eas ly observe the LED behav or.
Wa t unt l the Power and PL-ACT LED turns ON to conf rm that the connect on has
been establ shed.
2. In Locat on A plug n your HomePlugAV nto the power outlet then connect t to
your Modem/Router’s Ethernet LAN port us ng an Ethernet cable.
3. In Locat on B connect the power cable of your 4-Port HomePlugAV then plug t
nto the power socket. Connect your Ethernet dev ces w th an Ethernet cable. Your
HomePlugAV s now ready to use.

How to Use S mple Connect
S mple Connect prov des a more conven ent way of creat ng your HomePlugAV network
w thout the need to open the HomePlugAV Ut l ty software from a computer. The button
has three ma n funct ons wh ch nclude:
•Resett ng the Pr vate Network Name
•Creat ng a Secured HomePlugAV Network
•Jo n ng an ex st ng Secured HomePlugAV Network
Resett ng the Pr vate Network Name
S mple Connect allows you to reset the HomePlugAV’s Pr vate Network Name to a
random key. When a HomePlugAV s reset to a random key, t w ll not be able to
commun cate w th any other dev ce.

To reset the Private Network Name using Simple Connect:
Creat ng a Secured HomePlugAV Network
To create a HomePlugAV network, you need at least two HomePlugAV dev ces us ng
random Pr vate Network Names. When you press S mple Connect for 10 seconds on both
dev ces, a common Pr vate Network Name w ll be automat cally generated to enable
them to commun cate w th each other.

Note: New HomePlugAV can already commun cate w th each other out of the box. However, f you ntend
to create a new Pr vate Network Name us ng S mple Connect for both dev ces, you need to reset the r
Pr vate Network Names to a random key before proceed ng.
Step 1

Do the same procedure on un t 2 to reset

Upon connect on, the LEDs w ll bl nk s multaneously and then the Power LED l ghts on

Press the S mple Connect button of the HomePlugAV X for ten seconds. All LED w ll bl nk
nd cat ng that the Pr vate Network Name has been random ze.
Press the S mple Connect button of the HomePlugAV Y for ten seconds. All LED w ll bl nk
nd cat ng that the Pr vate Network Name has been random ze.

Press S mple Connect for two seconds on HomePlugAV X. After you release the button,
the Power LED w ll bl nk. If the Power LED d d not bl nk, press S mple Connect aga n
for two seconds.

Press S mple Connect for two seconds on HomePlugAV Y. After you release the button,

Make sure to press S mple Connect on HomePlugAV Y w th n two m nutes after you press
S mple Connect on HomePlug X.
The LEDs on both dev ces w ll sw tch off and on tw ce to s gn fy that they are pa red w th
another dev ce.

To conf rm f the connect on was establ shed, check the LEDs. The Power LEDs and the
Powerl ne Act v ty LEDs on both HomePlugs are ON.
When the Powerl ne Act v ty LED on e ther HomePlugAV X or Y s off, th s means the pa r ng s not
successful. In th s case, you need to redo the ent re process aga n .

Step 5
Unplug the HomePlugAVs and then plug them to the locat on where you would l ke to
use your dev ces. Connect your Ethernet dev ces us ng the Ethernet cables from the
product package. After connect ng the Ethernet cable, plug the HomePlugs d rectly to a
wall outlet.
An Ethernet-enabled dev ce can be a router, IPTV Set-top box, Internet TV, gam ng
console, network pr nter, or computer.

Jo n ng an Ex st ng Secured HomePlugAV Network
To enable a new dev ce to jo n an ex st ng network, S mple Connect w ll copy the Pr vate
Network Name of the ex st ng network to the new HomePlugAV. If you pressed S mple
Connect from mult ple HomePlugAVs, only the s gnal from the f rst two dev ces w ll be
processed.
To join an existing Secured omePlugAV network using Simple Connect:
Step 1
Plug HomePlugAV Z bes de one of your ex st ng HomePlugAV dev ce. Make sure you can
eas ly observe the LED behav or.
Upon connect on, HomePlug Z’s LEDs w ll bl nk s multaneously and then the Power LED
l ghts ON stead ly.
Step 2
Press S mple Connect for ten seconds from a HomePlugAV Z. After you release the button,
All LED w ll bl nk. The Power LED w ll stay ON.
Note: If the all LED d d not bl nk, press S mple Connect aga n for ten seconds.

Press S mple Connect Button for two seconds on one of the ex st ng HomePlugAV dev ce.
After you release the button, the Power LED w ll cont nuously bl nk. If the Power LED
d d not bl nk, press S mple Connect aga n for two seconds.

Make sure to press S mple Connect Button aga n on one of the ex st ng HomePlugAV dev ce w th n two m nutes
after you press S mple Connect from the HomePlugAV Z.

rat ng can only be calculated when the dev ce s part of an ex st ng network. The exact
connect on rate value can also be v ewed us ng HomePlugAV Ut l ty.

Power Sav ng Mode
When Power LED bl nks slowly n Green color HomePlugAV s on a Power sav ng status.
Cond t ons for HomePlugAV to go on a Power sav ng mode:
-W ll go on a power sav ng mode after 15m ns.
-There should be no Ethernet l nk.
-When connected to a PC or Laptop there should be no power on the network card
when the computer s OFF.
