HL105E 85Mbps High Speed HomePlug Ethernet Adapter
Troubleshooting Guide
If the 85Mbps High Speed HomePlug Ethernet Adapter does not work …..
1. Check that the Power LED (PWR) on all devices are on. If not try another AC outlet.
2. Check the PL-Act LED (link and activity) is ON. Check Ethernet LED is ON.
3. Power off and then on again the HomePlug adapter.
4. Check that the devices exist on the network. Use the HomePlug configuration utility
to see if all devices on the network are found.
5. If the HomePlug adapter is missing, make sure the adapter is plugged straight into the
wall socket and not through a multiplug/extension cord/power strip.
6. The chosen AC outlet pair may have poor electrical contact, try with different AC
outlets.
7. The HomePlug adapter may also be programmed with different passwords. Use the
configuration utility to set all the adapters with a new password.
8. Check that the HomePlug adapters are detected by TCP/IP.
From the command prompt, run ping and type the IP address of the computer you are
working on. [ping IP address of the computer]. This should return 4 good packets.
Now try to ping another computer on the network. If a timeout occurs: Go into the
TCP/IP properties and check that the buttons for automatically obtaining IP address
and gateway are checked. If not, make sure that both computers are on the same
subnet. Run ipconfig/all from the command prompt on all computers to verify that all
computers have valid IP addresses on the same subnet. The IP tables may be
corrupted, reboot all computers and try again. If these tests work, you have basic
connectivity and can use all network services.

9. Connect a HomePlug adapter to the Cable/DSL router but it still does not work.
Make sure that your TCP/IP settings are set to automatically obtaining IP address and
gateway address. Switch of all computers and unplug the HoemPlug adapter. Now
plug in the HomePlug adapter back into the router before turning on the computer.
This will ensure that the computer's IP address will be obtained from the router.
Now try opening Intenet Explorer. If the 'Not Found' page appears, try clicking the
link to 'obtain proxy settings automatically'.
10. Describe the testing environment (Office/Housing Estate/Multi-Storey/etc).
If the HomePlug adapter works but it is slow …..
11. A slow connection is almost always due to poor electrical contact/connection. Make
sure the HomePlug adapter is connected straight into the wall socket and not to a
power splitter/extension cord/multiplug/any plug with surge protector.
Another way is to try on another AC outlet.
12. Do not judge the distant by the distant between two wall sockets. The actual electrical
wiring may be a long loop/distant and is complicated. Hence, use the configuration
utility to read the connection/link rates between local and the remote HomePlug
adapters. Low connection rate will denote high attenuation between the two
HomePlug adapters.
If all the above do not work, then the HomePlug adapter may be a faulty one. Please
return it for replacement.
