Installation and
Commissioning
Attention!
Installation and startup shall be performed by trained technical personnel only.
Skilled specialists are people who are familiar with the work such as installation
and the operation of the product and have the necessary qualifications for these
tasks. Damage due to unauthorized tampering or improper use shall render the
warranty and liability claims towards the manufacturer invalid. The user is
responsible for ensuring compliance with safety and accident prevention
regulations applicable in specific cases.

User Responsibilities!
This equipment is an AMV Class A device. Such devices can cause radio interference. The
user must take appropriate precautionary measures for use. The device may only be
operated with a specifically permitted power supply. Only permitted wiring may be
connected.
Malfunctions
In the event of defects and device malfunctions that cannot be rectified, the device must be
taken out of operation and protected against unauthorized use.

Inductive coupling systems (BIC) are devices for contact-free energy and signal
transmission in industrial environments.
Use is particularly not allowed:
•in explosive environments,
•in applications in which the safety of
people or machines can be affected by transmitted signals (safety-related
circuits).

Protection from
Electromagnetic
Fields
Protection from Electromagnetic Fields during Operation and
Assembly
The permitted values in accordance with VDE 0848 part 3-1 are
maintained starting at a distance of ≥ 10 mm. The magnetic fields emitted
by the BIC system may pose a health hazard to persons with medical aids
such as a pacemaker. The minimum distance for such persons is ≥ 15 mm.
The operator is responsible for ensuring that this minimum distance is also
maintained by suitable measures during operation.

2 System Overview
Topology
Functionality
The inductive coupler system consists of a Base- as well as a Remote-Unit and allows a signal
transmission by an air gap. If the Remote is in the transmission range of the Base the signal is
transmitted via. inductive coupling and the digital signal is transmitted to the control unit. At the
same time the Base unit powers the Remote unit with the required operating voltage (depence
on distance and angular offset of Base and Remote). The inductive coupling between Base
and Remote is displayed via. the signal “In Zone” at the LED. The signal “In Zone” will be
transmitted to the control unit.
The inductive coupler system has an internal temperature monitoring which protects the
system from overheating. After triggering the temperature monitoring the automatic restart
takes place as soon as the system has cooled down. For visualization of the operating state
LED´s are integrated in Base- and Remote-Unit.

Attention!
Device damage due to induction effects!
Metallic objects on the coil cap cause the objects to be heated.
•Install the components so that no metallic objects can collect on the coil
cap.
When installing the device in metal, the indicated minimum distances to the surrounding
sides of the metal object must be observed; otherwise, the transmission distance between
transmitter and receiver changes. The transmission distance can also be influenced by the
type of metal.

Attention!
Device damage due to incorrect voltage supply!
Malfunctions may occur if the ripple is too high or if the output voltage is not
regulated.
➢Use only approved, regulated voltage supplies.
Attention!
The remote (receiver) may be damaged by voltage spikes if cables that are too
long are used!
➢To satisfy the EMC requirements, the cable on the receiver must not be
longer than 10 m.
➢Of a longer cable is used nonetheless, take all possible measures to
protect the receiver from over-voltage peaks.
Note
Operate base coupler (BIC 1I12-P2A25-M30MI1-BPX05-110) exclusively with
remote coupler (BIC 2I12-P2A25-M30MI1-BPX03-010).
Commissioning is only possible after complete assembly of an entire transmission chain
between base and remote.
For safety reasons, components must always be installed in a de-energized state.
The BIC system is designed so that a supply voltage reversal on the base will not cause
any damage. The base signal outputs may not under any circumstance be applied to the
supply voltage!
For safety reasons, we recommend limiting the primary 24 V supply for the BIC system on
the base to 0.5 A.
The remote system is secured against shorting; the base sends an "InZone" signal for
monitoring/checking the connection structure between base and remote. This can be
interpreted by the SPS as "sensor data transmission valid"
InZone Output
The output is active as soon as the remote is within the base transmission range. As long as
the signal is active, the relevant information is valid at the outputs and the LED is on.
