Your BeoSound 9000 is designed for
both close-up operation via the
BeoSound 9000 operation panel and
remote control operation via Beo4.
Whether you place BeoSound 9000
on a table, vertically or horizontally
on the wall or on the specially
designed BeoSound 9000 stand, you
can adjust the position of the
operation panel in order to facilitate
your operation of the
BeoSound 9000.
Compact Disc player
The BeoSound 9000 contains 6 Compact Disc
compartments and a carriage moves between
compartments enabling CD playback. Move the
carriage by pressing the direct CD selection
button next to the CD compartment.
Your key to using BeoSound 9000
When you switch the BeoSound 9000 to
stand-by, the carriage will always situate
itself next to the operation panel and the CD
compartment number 1.

Load button
The load button is situated in a low position on
the BeoSound 9000.
Direct CD selection button
A selection button is situated next to all 6
Compact Disc compartments.
Press this button to play the CD in the
compartment.

Buttons on the operation panel
The buttons on the operation panel are
conveniently grouped according to type of
function, so you can easily find your way
around the panel while operating the system.
What’s on the display
The display keeps you informed about what
the BeoSound 9000 is doing and about
ongoing operations, e.g. playing a CD
sequence named GLENN MILLER. For details
in the operation of the display, see Switching
between displays in the Reference book.
Sound adjustments. The
buttons give access to sound
adjustment functions:
VOL rand VOL u: Raise and
lower the volume level.
MUTE: Mutes or activates the
loudspeakers.
TREBLE, BASS, BALANCE and
LOUDNESS: Regulate the
sound from the loudspeakers.
RESET: Resets the settings for
sound to their default
settings.
Timer functions. The buttons
give access to timer functions:
TIMER: Sets Timers for when
the BeoSound 9000 should
begin to play or switch off.
ON/OFF: On or off decides
where a timer will be heard or
executed.
CHECK: Checks your Timers.
CLEAR: Clears your Timers.
CLOCK: Sets or displays the
built-in clock.
CD functions. The buttons give
access to the CD functions:
CD: Plays the CD.
PAUSE: Pauses playback.
SELECT and EDITING:
Programming sequences of
discs and tracks.
RANDOM and EDIT: Operate
special random and edited
play functions for the CDs.
NAMING: Names discs and
sequences.
CLEAR: Clears programmed
values.
Radio functions. The buttons give access to
the radio functions:
RADIO: Plays the radio.
TUNE, AM/FM and P. NO.: Tune in to stations
and number them.
NAMING: Names stations.
CLEAR: Clears stations.
A. AUX function. The button enables you to
switch on extra audio equipment.
Stand-by function. The button switches
BeoSound 9000 to stand by.
If PIN appears in the display the first time you
activate a function, and you have not
received a PIN-code from your Bang &
Olufsen retailer, contact your retailer to
receive a PIN-code. For further information
about the PIN-code function, refer to the
chapter The PIN-code system on page 36 in
the Reference book.

When you have loaded your
BeoSound 9000 with 1–6 CDs, you
are ready to start playing your CDs.
When you press the CD button to
start playing, all information about
the CDs will be registered, e.g. the
number of tracks. All loaded CDs are
then played.
You can change between the different
CDs and the individual tracks, to
achieve the sequence of tracks you
prefer. You can also play CDs and
tracks on individual CDs in a random
order, using the random function.
After 12 hours of uninterrupted
playing, the BeoSound 9000 stops.
If you choose to listen to another
source, the CD player switches off
automatically.
Using the CD player
Loading CDs
Pressing the load button raises the glass door.
You can load the CDs you want to play or
remove the CDs from their compartments.
Press to raise the glass

If the carriage is situated over the CD
compartment where you want to load a new CD,
simply press the direct selection button in front of
another CD compartment to make the carriage
move.
CD
The CD must be loaded with the text side facing
you. Hold the CD by its edges and insert the CD
(top section). To unload the CD, hold it by its
edges and push the CD slightly forward to
release it.

CD playback
Start playback of a CD by pressing the OK
button in the CD section of buttons. If you
want to play a specific CD, simply press the
direct CD selection button* placed next to
the CD compartment.

*The CD selection buttons can be also be used to
step through the tracks of your CDs. Press the
button once – and you select the CD, press it
continuosly – and you step through the tracks of
the chosen CD.

If you cancel the random play function while a CD
is playing, all the tracks beyond the current track
number will be played in chronological order,
even if they have already been played while the
random play function was cut in.
You can choose to combine the RANDOM
function with the EDIT function and play your
favourite tracks in a random order. You can also
combine these two functions with SELECT and
choose to play only your favourite tracks from e.g.
two CDs in random order.
Playing tracks in random order
If you select the random play function you will
find that the tracks are played in a different
order each time the CDs or track series are
played.

NOTE! Please refer to the chapters Select and

You can make BeoSound 9000 play your
favourite CDs in a particular sequence. Every
time a CD is included in the sequence, the red
indicator next to the CD compartment lights
up.
If you want to, you can override the chosen
disc sequence and listen to a CD not included
in the sequence. Press the direct CD selection
button next to the CD you want to hear, and
playback will start immediately.
You can also choose to leave out a CD which
has already been included in the sequence
but only if you are still in the SELECT option*.

Choosing discs to include in a
sequence
The CDs you have chosen will start playing in
numerical order and continue to play for 12
hours if uninterrupted.

*NOTE! The SELECT option lasts for 25 seconds
from when you pressed SELECT. If you press a
direct selection button after the SELECT option
has ended, the disc you chose will start playback
immediately and override your sequence. When it
has finished playing, BeoSound 9000 will continue
playing the sequence you chose before.

Switch on the radio
When you switch on the radio, it
automatically selects the station which you
last listened to, indicating on the display
which radio program is playing.
To listen to the radio, you must first
find and store the frequencies of the
radio stations.
You can store up to 60 different radio
stations in your BeoSound 9000
(refer to the Reference book for
further information).

Adjust the sound volume
While you are listening to the radio or CD
player, you can of course adjust the sound
volume, at any time.
Adjust the volume up or

If you store a volume level,
BeoSound 9000 will start playing at
this level each time you switch it on.
