Using the Unit in a Network
When connected to a network, this unit can send images to distant locations, enabling presentation in a new style.
Features
• Conforming to Ethernet (10BASE-T), the unit can be directly connected to a LAN or Internet line without using a PC.
• If you use aWeb browser on a computer in the connected network, images captured with this unit can be displayed and
even downloaded. No special driver software is required.
• Storing images captured with this unit as files in a server via a LAN, you can check the images from a domestic PC any
time you want.
• The Enable Control function permits you to operate this unit from a PC (see pages 10 and 11).
• The last eight images can be seen at a glance in "Multiple window system" on the Web screen.

Caution
• The size of an image captured with this unit may be as large as 3.5MB (for a full-sized BMP). To send such mass data via
a network, consult the administrator of your network.
• Do NOT perform any network operation while this unit is accessing a PC card (with the PC card indicator lit in green).

Connecting the Unit to a Network
Before connection, turn off the power to the equipment to be connected.
It is also requested that you consult the administrator of your network in
advance.

Setting the Unit
The network settings are performed with a menu operation.
There are two methods for the menu operation: using the
operation panel and using a mouse.
The method using a mouse is discussed here.
1Display the menu.
Right-clickon the area in the upper one-fifths of the
screen.
2Select “Setup.”
Left-click on “Setup.”
The Setup display appears.
3Select “NetWork Setting.”
Left-click on “NetWork Setting.”
The NetWork Setting display appears.
4Check “Enable NetWork.”
Left-click the “Enable NetWork” check box.
A check mark ( ) appears in the box.

5Enter the IP address.
1Left-click on the leftmost IP Address box.
2Left-clickon the numeric keys on the lowerarea
of the display.
Enterthree digits oftheIP address. Forasingle-
digit or two-digit number, first type 0 or 00.
The cursor moves to the next box. Repeat the
same operation.
6Enter the Subnet Mask.
1Left-click on the leftmost SubNet Mask box.
2Left-click on the numeric keys in the lower area
of the display.
Enter three digits of the Subnet Mask. For a
single-digitortwo-digitnumber, firsttype0 or00.
The cursor moves to the next box. Repeat the
same operation.
7Register the settings.
Left-click on “Save.”
8Clear the menu.
Left-click on “Return to Window.”
9Turn off the power, then turn it
on again.
Notes:
• For details on the IP Address and SubNet Mask, ask the
administrator of your network.
• If any item other than the IP Address and SubNet Mask
must be set, perform the setting before step 7.
• Be sure to reboot this unit any time after setting/changing
the IP address.
Setting items
LEnable NetWork
To enable/disable the network function
LRead Only (FTP,WEB: disable Write/Control)
If operating the unit from a PC, remove the check
mark ( ).
LInternal Server
To set the IP address, subnet mask, user ID, and
password for the FTP, HTTP, and Telnet servers
of this unit.
Whenyouset“UserID”toother than“anonymous,”
a certification will be requested before connecting
to the network. You can log on using the user ID
and password specified here.
LEnable FTP Client
To enable/disablethe function to send data to a file
server. When the function is disabled, the menu
button becomes invalid, preventing erroneous op-
eration.
LExternal Server
To set an external FTP server. This item must be
set if you want to send an image file to the FTP
server. For FTP servers, ask the administrator of
your network.

Setting a PC
When using Internet Explorer 5.0
To control this unit using InternetExplorer5.0asyourWeb
browser, perform the following settings:
Attention:
• Some special settings may be required for your
network. Please consult the administrator of your
network before starting to make the settings, to
eliminate causing any trouble in networking.
1Start your PC.
For details, refer to the instructions for the PC.
2Run Internet Explorer.
For details, refer to the instructions for the PC or
Internet Explorer.
3Choose “Internet Options”
from the “Tools”menu.
Left-clickon“Tools,”andapop-up menu isdisplayed
beneath. Then left-click on“Internet Options.”
4Select “Connections.”
Left-click on “Connections.”
5Select “LAN Settings.”
Left-click on “LAN Settings.”
6Select “Advanced.”
Left-click on “Advanced.”
If “Advanced” is disabled, left-click on the “Use a
proxyserver”checkbox. Acheckmark ( )appears,
permitting you to select “Advanced.”

Left-click in the “Exceptions” field, and type the IP
address of this unit specified in step 5 on page 5.
• Enter a dot (period) between each three digits.
• If the three digits begin with “0” or “00,” skip “0”
input (s).
8Select “OK.”
Left-click on “OK.”
Repeat this operation until the display in step 1 is
restored.
When using Netscape
Communicator 4.5
To control this unit using Netscape Communicator 4.5 as
your Web browser, perform the following settings:

network. Please consult the administrator of your
network before starting to make the settings, to
eliminate causing any trouble in networking.
1Start your PC.
For details, refer to the instructions for the PC.
2Run Netscape Communicator.
For details, refer to the instructions for the PC or
Netscape Communicator.
3Choose“Preferences”from the
“Edit”menu.
Left-click on“Edit,”and a pop-up menu is displayed
beneath. Then left-click on “Preferences.”

1Run Internet Explorer or
Netscape Communicator.
2Enter the IP address of this
unit in the“Address”or
“Location” field.
Left-click in the corresponding field, and type the
IP address of this unit specified in step 5 on page
5, and press the enter key.
• Enter a dot (period) between each three digits.
• If the three digits begin with “0” or “00,” skip “0”
input (s).
The Web screen for this unit appears.
Example: when the address is 192.168.1.2

Left-click on "Single window system" or "Multiple
window system."
Use either “Single window system” or “Multiple
window system” referring to “What Can be Done
on the Web Screen” on pages 10 and 11.
When “Multiple window system” is not found on
the screen, scroll the display downward.
Note
• If the Web screen of this unit is displayed
simultaneously on multiple PCs, the operation
speed will be decreased.
Web Screen Operations
You can see and download the image being captured by this unit using a Web browser in a room distant from the unit.
This may be helpful, e.g. when you want to observe the progress of a conference in another distant place.
• For operation, use “Single window system” and “Multiple window system” on the Web screen.
The operational procedure is the same. (See pages 10 and 11.)
• The major difference between “Single window system” and “Multiple window system” is the number of captured im-
ages that can be displayed. While “Single window system” can display the latest image, “Multiple window system” can
display the last eight updated images in addition to the latest one. Use either of them, according to your purpose.
• The operation may differ depending on the browser version.
The display examples in section “Operating the WEB Screen” (pages 9 to 11) are those with Internet Explorer 5.0.

What Can be Done on theWeb Screen
What can be done with “Single window system” can also be done with “Multiple window system,”whilethe screen layouts are
slightly different.
Single window system displays an image being captured by this unit.
Setting the IntervalTime for the preview display
Set the time to update the display (preview display) to check
images captured by this unit before actually loading an im-
age onto the PC. Left-click on the option button for the
desired time value.
• When you select “None,” the display is not updated after an
image is once displayed.
• The values listed for “IntervalTime” are approximate durations.
Operating this unit
Set/adjust the unit by left-clicking on these items.
Be sure to remove the check mark from the “Read Only
(FTP,WEB: disable Write/Control)” check box, which
can be accessed from the Setup menu of this unit.

• For details on the setting/adjustment items, see page 11.
• Do NOT perform any network operation while this unit is
accessing a PC card (with the PC card indicator lit in green).
Loading an image
Left-click on the preview display.
When loading of the image is completed, proceed
to “Saving the loaded image” on page 11.
• The loaded image is saved to a JPEG-format file.
Note
• When loading an image onto a PC, the latest image at the
time when you click on the display is loaded from this unit,
which may be different from that on the preview display.
Setting the picture image size
Left-click on the option button for the desired value.

Storing the Loaded Image
1Display the menu.
Right-clickon the image,and a contextmenuisdis-
played. Choose “Save As” from the menu.
Note
• With some browser software, the latest image at
the time when you click on “Save As” is saved,
which may be different from that on the preview
display.
2Specify a filename and save.
Type a filename, then left-click on “Save.”
Right-clicking on the image
displays a context menu.
Multiple window system displays the last eight updated preview images in addition to the current image being
captured by this unit.
Items that can be set/adjusted on theWeb screen
LLight ON/OFF
Selects “Upper lamps on,” “Lower lamps off,” and “Both
off” in the sequence.
LAuto Focus
Turns on/off the auto-focus function.
LFocus-Near/Focus-Far
For fine-adjustment of the focus. Left-click repeatedly
on either “Focus-Near” or “Focus-Far.”
LZoom-OUT/Zoom-IN
Zoom-OUT:To widen the area to be captured
Zoom-IN:To enlarge the image
LAE ON/OFF
Turns on/off the auto-iris function.
LIris +/

For fine-adjustment of the iris. Left-click repeatedly on
either “

” or “+.”
LSXGA/XGA
Switches the output mode.
LWhite Balance
Turns on/off the white-balance function.
LTONE
Selects “Natural,” “Linear1,” “Document,” “Linear2,” and
“Picture” in sequence.
LReverse
Selects “Normal,” “Nega,” and “BlueBack” in sequence.
LT-GAIN+/

Checking the transition of preview display
If the eight-image display area is not seen, scroll the
display.
• The preview displays are updated each time a new image is
loaded.
• While the preview display is not updated eight times after displaying
theWeb screen, only the available images are displayed.
Note
• The last eight updated images displayed by Multiple window
system cannot be loaded onto the PC.

Shooting a white board and sending handwriting
A handwritten manuscript or memo can be sent to a distance just by shooting (there is no need to convert it to data for
transmission).
