3. Installation
3.1. Conditions
3.1.1. Ventilation
In the combustion process sto es absorb air from the surroundings. To allow a correct natural draught
and users comfort make sure that sufficient amount of air is a ailable in the room where installation is
considered.
Especially in highly insulated rooms make sure that the amount of air is sufficient for correct combustion
and that the room remains properly entilated.
In rooms equipped with mechanical entilation an outside air intake (around 50 cm2) has to be installed in
the chimney.
Before installation the chimney´s condition has to be erified. The chimney has to be clean and inspected
for leaks and sufficient draught. Make sure that the flue is not shared with any other appliance.
3.1.2. Localization
Cast iron sto es emit heat by radiation of cast iron parts. To pro ide an optimal heat distribution a central
location is recommended. Due to high temperature of the cast iron make sure that the appliance is
protected from children.
3.1.3. Walls and floors
Before installation make sure that floors and walls are not combustible or co ered with combustible
materials (i.e. tapestry, carpets, panels, plastic surfaces).

INSTRUCTION MANUAL – Cast iron stove PORTO
4
A correct sto e location requires, depending on a model, from 150 to 220mm gap at each side of the
appliance.
Especially in case of old buildings make sure that the floor has a sufficient load bearing capacity. In some
cases, enforcement of the structure can be necessary.
The surface where the sto e will be installed should be e en and flat. In case of floors and walls made of
combusti e materials additional protection such as marble, tin or granite panel will be required.
The safety measures ha e to be applied as well in direct surrounding of exhaustion canals.
3.1.4. Uneven surfaces
To mitigate troubles with installation in rooms with une en floors it is possible to regulate a le el of e ery
leg separately (in models Porto, Almeida, Madeira, Morena).
3.2. Exhaustion - chimney
For effecti e exhaustion it is essential to follow the guidelines:
• Positioning of the pipes should be maximally ertical to maximize effecti eness of exhaust system.
• A oid 90º angels if a bypass is required. In that case we recommend a bypass with 45º angles.
• If the flue pipe transport smoke directly outside of the chimney, it should protrude 40 cm abo e the
chimney le el.
4. Usage
4.1. Fuel
Use a recommended fuel to ensure optimal sto e efficiency. Actual heat output can differ significantly
depending on wood type, its hardness and moisture.
4.1.1. Recommendations
We highly recommend hard wood logs of broad leaf trees (with moisture le el below 15-20%). Make
sure that the logs are cut accordingly to the burning chambers requirements. To obtain
recommended moisture le el wood should be stored in dry and well entilated place around one, two
years. Recommended wood: oak, hornbeam, beech, ash wood, acacia.
4.1.2. Prohi ited fuel
It is prohibited to use:
• any form of coal, other minerals or solid mineral fuel
• exotic wood
• green wood or damp wood (with moisture le el abo e 20%). It significantly reduces efficiency and
can cause deposition of soot, tar etc. inside the burning chamber and exhaust
• processed wood (laminated, impregnated etc.), chipboards, pallets, waste wood etc., that can block
installation, ha e negati e en ironmental effect and limit durability of the sto e (due to a high risk of
o erheating) and cause high fire hazard
• chemical liquids, such as: petrol alcohol, oil
• trashes

4.2. Exploitation
4.2.1. First usage - tips
During the first lightning, fire should be progressi ely increased and a high le el of air circulation has to
be ensured. At the first hours of operation the sto e can gi e off fumes of a new paint and chemical
substances from the burning chamber.
During the first usage do not put a full load of logs and do not lea e the sto e unsuper ised.
4.2.2. Further exploitation
During the first phase of lightning make sure that air regulation is fully open. If any additional equipment
of the sto e (i.e. pipes) is equipped with additional flaps, make sure that they are fully open during the
lightning process.
To lit a fire use firelighters or some small dry pieces of a hard wood. Start a fire and push the door
slightly, but do not close them. When the fire becomes stable add logs to the burning chamber (for more
tips how to start a fire - see 4.2.3.). Close the door and adjust air regulation that the fire will reach the
le el according to your preferences.
4.2.3. How to start a fire
1. First make sure that you ha e all necessary items prepared and near at hand: a couple of logs of dry
wood, some small and medium dry wood pieces, firelighters or newspaper, matches.
2. To set a fire, use firelighters or some bunched paper to start the ignition.
3. Put pieces of small and dry wood o er the firelighters or paper. Only then place the standard logs into
the burning chamber.
There are two ways to build a fire - bottom up (bigger pieces of wood on the top) and top down (bigger
pieces of wood at the bottom). Note that the top down method generates less soot and ashes, better air
distribution and makes the first piece of wood last longer.
4. Before starting the fire, fully open all air flows in the sto e. Open the combustion chamber door and
light the fire you ha e built.
5. Lea e the door slightly open until the glass gets warm to a oid problems with condensation of water
on the glass.
6. When the fire becomes strong and stable, put on the big wood logs and close the door and all the air
entrances.
7. You can control the wood burning rate and heat output by adjusting the amount of air going into your
sto e. To adjust the fire le el to your preferences, use the airflow regulation of your sto e.
8. To refill the sto e open all air entrances fully, open the door and put logs inside. Then close the door
and adjust the air regulation.
5. Maintenance
5.1. Ashes removal
• Remo e ashes from the burning chamber regularly
• Make sure that ashes do not reach grate le el. Ash can block an air circulation and fire will be
suppressed. The lack of grate entilation can cause sto e damage.
• Remo e ashes only when the burning chamber is cooled down

5.2. Stove cleaning
• A sto e should be cleaned regularly
• Open the door and make sure that the appliance is cooled down. Take out all the remo able parts
from the burning chamber and clean the inside walls. Than clean all the parts remo ed from the
burning chamber.
• To clean the glass use products fit for the purpose. At the end rinse the surface with clean water and
dry the glass with a soft cloth
• Ceramic glass is a material highly resistant to high temperatures. In case of glass damage it must be
replaced by an authorized product that will ensure safety and optimal operation.
• All external surfaces can be cleaned with a softly damped cloth when the appliance is cooled down.
5.2.1. Seasonal maintenance
After each heating season a complete maintenance of the appliance is required. Proper maintenance
of the sto e impro es durability of the product and its long term effecti eness.
• At the end of each heating season all parts of the appliance ha e to be thoroughly cleaned
• Take out all remo able parts from the burning chamber. Scrub all cast iron parts of the sto e with
a wire brush to remo e residuals of burning process
• At the end of a season exhaust system should be cleaned by a qualified specialist
5.3. Exhaustion
Flues and chimneys ha e to be kept in an optimal condition to allow a correct smoke circulation. To
make sure that the system is well maintained and free of soot, tar and etc. contact with a qualified
specialist regularly.
