The Power Line Adaptor will transform your home electrical wiring into
a ubiquitous networking infrastructure providing Ethernet access point in
various locations without the need of an additional cable. Simply plug
the pair of Power Line Adaptors to 2 distant ordinary AC power outlets
to extend your broadband connection or existing Ethernet (LAN) network.
The BPL120/121 Power Line Adaptor supports up to 200 Mbps data rate
over the existing home electrical network, providing fast Internet access
and support to full multimedia applications including digital data, voice,
and audio/video streaming.

1.2. Safety Cautions
This Power Line Adapter is used to connect to an AC power outlet. Before
using the device, read the safety instructions carefully. For installation instruc-
tions, refer to the installation section of this guide.
- Follow all the warnings and instructions marked on the product.
- Before cleaning the device, unplug it from the wall outlet. Use a dry cloth
for cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners.
- Do not place the device near water.
- Do not place the device near or over a radiator or heat register.
- Do not use an extension cord between the device and the AC power
source.

to configure and use more effectively your product.

1.4. Short Description
Ethernet Port :
Connect to the broadband router, the computer or other device via supplied
RJ45 Ethernet cable.
Buttons :
RST (reset):Restore the factory defaults.
SECURITY (Network Membership Key): Set the membership state.
- Pressing and holding the SECURITY button for more than 10 seconds ran-
domizes the NMK value.
- Pressing and holding the SECURITY button for more than 3.0 seconds
makes the adapter a member of the existing network.

Indicators :
There are 3 LEDs on the front panel to indicate the status of the adapter.
- Power (green): lightened when the adapter is powered on.
- Ethernet (green): blinks to indicate activity over the Ethernet connection.
- Data (green): blinks to indicate activity over the power line connection.
The red light and the green light illuminate simultaneously and the indicator
is in orange when the device is in reset state.

2. BASIC INSTALLATION
Follow the steps below to properly connect the Power Line Adaptor to your
computer:
1. Power off the PC or Notebook.
2. Connect the provided Ethernet (RJ-45) cable to the Ethernet Power Line
Adaptor’s Ethernet port.
3. Connect the other end of the Ethernet (RJ-45) cable to the computer’s
LAN port.
4. Plug the Ethernet Power Line Adaptor into a wall socket next to the com-
puter.
5. Turn on the computer.
6. Check and confirm that the Power and Ethernet LEDs on the Ethernet
Power Line Adaptor are ON.
Follow the steps below to connect the other one Ethernet Power Line Adaptor

to your ADSL broadband connection:
1. Power off the PC or Notebook.
2. Connect the provided Ethernet (RJ-45) cable to the Ethernet Power Line
Adaptor’s Ethernet port.
3. Connect the other end of the Ethernet (RJ-45) cable to an available
Ethernet port of the ADSL broadband Router.
4. Plug the Ethernet Power Line Adaptor into a wall socket next to the
computer.
5. Turn on your computer.
6. Check and confirm that the Power, Ethernet and Data LEDs on the Power
Line Adaptor are ON.
Connect to the Internet to check your network connection.
The HomePlug AV standard uses 128-bit AES (Advanced Encryption
Standard) to safely transmit data between power line adapters. To
communicate with each other, power line adapters need to use the same
Network Membership Key (NMK).
The SECURITY button allows you to set up a secure connection with other
HomePlug AV compliant Power line devices which also support the NMK
feature.
This section describes how to add new devices or remove old devices from a
HomePlug AV logical network (AVLN) by using the SECURITY pushbutton.
3.1. Forming a HomePlug AV Logical Network
When two adapters with different NMK values are connected to the same
power line and the user wants them to form a logical network.
1. Press the SECURITY button on the first adapter for less than 3 seconds.
2. Press the SECURITY button on the second adapter for less than 3 seconds
within the same minute.
3. Wait for the connection to complete.
The Power LED on both adapters blinks evenly at 1-second intervals until the
operation succeeds or fails. If the connection succeeds, it illuminates steadily.
If an error occurs, the Power LED on the second adapter blinks unevenly until
the button on the first adapter is pressed again or the second adapter is reset
by holding the button down for more than 10 seconds.

3.2. Joining a Network
In this scenario a network exists and the user wants to add a new adapter
to that network. Any device on the existing network can be used to accept
the new device.
Follow the same procedure as above, the first adapter used being the new
adapter to be added to the network.
3.3. Leaving a Network
A network exists and the user wants to remove one adapter from that
network. For example, the user wants to remove the adapter to have it join
another logical network.
1. Press the button on the adapter to be removed for at least 10 seconds.
The adapter resets and restarts with a random NMK.
2. Wait for the reset to complete.
The Power LED on the adapter to be removed momentarily extinguishes
during reset, blinks during restart, then illuminates steadily. No error
occurs.
The user can remove the adapter or add it to another logical network on the
same medium when it is completed.
The PowerPacket utility program detects 200 Mbps PLC-Ethernet bridge
devices in the power line network, measures data rate performance, ensures
security of the power line network, and performs diagnostics.
To install the software on your computer:
- Insert the CDROM in your computer CD drive.
- In the introduction screen, click on the button to launch the software
installation.
- Follow the installation steps to install the software
A user guide is provided separately to assist you when using the PowerPacket
Utility software.

seau électrique domestique en réseau large bande permanent en four-
nissant des points d’accès réseau à différents endroits sans nécessiter de
câblage supplémentaire. Branchez simplement la paire d’adaptateurs CPL
sur 2 prises électriques distantes pour étendre votre connexion Internet
large bande ou votre réseau local existant.
Les adaptateurs BPL120/121 supportent un débit maximal Théorique

2. INSTALLATION

à votre ordinateur:

Suivez les étapes suivantes pour connecter le deuxième adaptateur CPL à
votre routeur réseau ADSL:
1. Eteignez l’ordinateur.
2. Connectez le câble réseau fourni sur le port réseau de l’adaptateur CPL.
3. Connectez l’autre bout du câble réseau à un port réseau du routeur
réseau ADSL.
4. Branchez l’adaptateur CPL sur la prise de courant proche du routeur.
5. Allumez l’ordinateur.
6. Vérifiez que les diodes Power, Ethernet et Data de l’adaptateur CPL
s’allument correctement.
Faites un essai de connexion à Internet pour vérifier l’état de la connexion
réseau.
L'Adaptateur de Réseau AV standard utilise l'AES 128 bits (norme de
cryptage Advanced Encryption Standard) pour transmettre des données
sécurisées entre adaptateurs CPL. Pour communiquer les uns avec les autres,
les adaptateurs doivent tous utiliser la même clé d'appartenance au réseau
(Network Membership Key, ou NMK).
Le bouton de couplage SECURITY vous permettra d'établir une connexion
sécurisée avec d'autres appareils CPL compatibles HomePlug AV avec
fonction de couplage.
Cette section décrit comment ajouter un nouvel appareil ou enlever un
ancien appareil sur le réseau logique HomePlug AV (AVLN) en utilisant le
bouton de couplage SECURITY.
3.1. Formation d’un réseau logique HomePlug AV
Lorsque deux adaptateurs avec des valeurs NMK différentes sont connectés
sur le même réseau électrique et que l’utilisateur veut former un réseau
logique.
1. Appuyer sur le bouton SECURITY du premier adaptateur pendant au
moins 3 secondes.
2. Dans la minute qui suit, appuyer sur le bouton SECURITY du deuxième
adaptateur pendant au moins 3 secondes.
3. Attendre que la connexion soit établie.

jusqu’à ce que la connexion soit établie ou échoue. Si la connexion est
établie, la diode s’illumine de manière fixe. Si une erreur survient, la diode
du deuxième adaptateur clignote jusqu’à ce que le bouton soit de nouveau
enfoncé ou que le premier adaptateur soit réinitialisé en appuyant sur le
bouton SECURITY pendant plus de 10 secondes.
3.2. Rejoindre un réseau
Dans ce scenario, un réseau existe déjà et l’utilisateur veut ajouter un nouvel
adaptateur. Tout appareil sur le réseau existant peut devenir accepter le
nouvel appareil.
Suivre la même procédure que ci-dessus, le premier adaptateur étant le
nouvel adaptateur.
3.3. Quitter un réseau
Dans ce scenario, un réseau existe déjà et l’utilisateur veut retirer un des
adaptateurs du réseau (par exemple pour l’inscrire sur un autre réseau
logique).
1. Appuyer sur le bouton de l’appareil à retirer pendant au moins 10
secondes. L’adaptateur est réinitialisé avec une nouvelle clé NMK.
2. Attendre que la réinitialisation soit terminée.
La diode d’alimentation s’éteint momentanément pendant la réinitialisation,
clignote lors du redémarrage et s’illumine de manière fixe. L’utilisateur peut
alors utiliser l’adaptateur pour le coupler à un autre réseau logique.
Le programme utilitaire PowerPacket détecte l’ensemble des adaptateurs
CPL présents sur votre réseau domestique, mesure les performances de
débit, garantit la sécurité sur votre réseau domestique et effectue les dia-
gnostics nécessaires.
Pour installer le logiciel sur votre ordinateur :
- Insérer le CDROM dans le lecteur de votre ordinateur.
- Sur l’écran d’introduction, clicker sur le bouton ‘INSTALL’ pour lancer l’ins-
tallation du logiciel.
- Suivre les étapes d’installation à l’écran.
Un guide d’utilisation est fourni séparément pour vous assister dans l’utilisa-
tion du logiciel PowerPacket.
