Cut the Glass
You have protected the paent and are wearing your ANSI ap-
proved Tech-Rescue gear, respiratory protecon and eye protec-
on. The sucon cups are on two clean and unbroken areas of
the windshield, and spaced apart to balance the load for handling.
Your partners are ready to support the glass from below and you
have made your purchase point with the pick hammer.
Insert The Beluga crushing blade in the hole, press the shoe of the
cuer rmly against the glass. With one hand guiding the cung
head and one hand operang the drill start your drill and gently
guide The Beluga Cuer through the glass following your mapped
out line.
As you cut along the roof line or dashboard of the windshield, an-
cipate making the 90 degree turn in advance and begin guiding
the tool in that direcon.
Cauon: Do not operate The Drill without hold-
ing The Beluga Cuer head rmly in your hand.
Operaon of the drill without holding the cuer
head will cause the cuer head to spin and possi-
bly dislodge from your drill.
Once The Beluga is rmly placed on the windshield, it is only nec-
essary to hold the Beluga Cung Head to navigate your turns.
Size Up
As with any auto extricaon, size up the situaon when you ar-
rive at the scene and work with your ocers to determine the
best cause of acon.
If it is determined that removing the windshield by cung it out
will assist in the safe removal of your paent, take the following
precauons.
Don ANSI Approved Tech Rescue turnout gear, including, ap-
proved helmet, extricaon gloves, eye protecon and wear ap-
proved boots. Have a partner ready to support the glass with
their gloved hands, pike poles, Halligans or any other chocking
device you feel is safe under the condions. Do not rely
on the sucon cups alone to hold the glass.
Cover your paent with an approved extricaon blanket to pro-
tect them from glass dust and chips. The Beluga’s Cuer blade
design limits glass dust in the vehicle compartment but does
not eliminate it. Take all necessary precauons to protect
your paent from the dangerous by products of broken glass,
glass chips and glass dust.
Map out your cung line. Know in advance where you want to
cut the glass so you can remove the glass in one sweep. Make
sure your cung lines will not interfere with the paent or in-
ternal obstacles.
You can get very close to the dashboard, A-Post and Roof with
the Beluga Cuer as it inserts into the glass less than 1.0” and
only reciprocates 3/8” upwards.
Pick Hammer
The pick hammer is included in the Beluga Kit to assist you in
making a purchase point (hole) in the glass. This hole will be
your starng point and ending point.
The best place to make this hole is in the top or lower poron of
the windshield near the edge. Make the hole where it will in-
tersect with the line you plan to cut in the glass.
WARNING: Before making the purchase hole
don your approved turnout gear and goggles,
cover and protect your paent.
Place the pick side of the hammer on the glass where you wish
to make the starng hole. Li the hammer about 12” and drive
it into the glass. Once the hammer is imbedded in the wind-
shield, twist it back and forth to increase the hole size and then
pull out the hammer.
Do not overdue the downward pressure as this hammer is
quite ecient. Too much downward thrust will cause you to
make a much larger hole than desired.
Before Cung:
• Don your protecve gear.
• Cover your paent to protect them from glass chips and
dust.
• Plan your cung path.
• Have your partners stand by to chock and support the glass.
• Clean the windshield and aach sucon cups tesng for
rmness of grip.
Sucon Cups
There are two 4.5” 65lb capacity sucon cups included in The
Beluga Kit.
IMPORTANT:
The sucon cups are provided only as a convenience to assist
the operators in handling the glass, once cut. Support the glass
with a pike pole, Halligan or other device to keep the glass from
falling into the passenger compartment when cut.
Before installing the sucon cups, wipe the glass clean of dust
and debris, clean and inspect the sucon cups for dirt, debris
and cracks in the rubber. Check that there are no cracks in the
glass where you plan on pung the sucon cups. Dirt, Dust,
Glass Chips and Cracks will work together to loosen the vacuum
on the sucon cup and render it useless. Firmly press the clean
sucon cup on clean non-cracked glass and squeeze the sucon
cup handle closed. Pull on the handle to check for ghtness.
Warning Sucon cups can fail unexpectedly and
cause the glass to drop without warning. DO
NOT USE SUCTION CUPS TO CARRY THE GLASS
Use the sucon cups only to assist the operators
in handling the glass during the cut. Never rely
on the sucon cups alone to carry the glass or
hold it in place. Always protect your paent(s)
and yourself from falling glass.
Power Head—Driver
The Beluga Cung Kit is unique in the industry. It is not provided
with a power tool, but one is required to operate the system.
Choose a good quality baery operated 3/8” drill or 1/4” impact
driver. Look for a baery driven tool that has a operang voltage
of at least 19VDC. Your industrial tool supplier or home center has
many brands to choose from.
Connecng the Beluga to your
drill or impact driver.
The Beluga Tool comes standard with a 1/4” locking hex type sha.
This can be aached to a standard 3/8” Drill Chuck or directly to a
1/4” female locking hex adaptor. If using a 3/8” drill be sure to x
the three chuck jaws on the ats and ghten the chuck securely.
Any baery operated drill or Impact driver will work. Best results
are with a smooth operang drill. If you have a hammer drill, oper-
ate The Beluga o “Hammer Mode” Variable speed drills are ideal.
WARNING: Failure to align the chuck on the ats and ghten
the securely will cause the sha of The Beluga Cung Tool to score
and eventually round out. This is not a warranty !
WARNING: Do not rotate the drill without holding the Beluga
Tool from spinning. The tool is not balanced, running the drill mo-
tor without holding the Beluga Head from spinning can cause the
chuck to loosen and dislodge the Beluga Head from the chuck.
