Proper and intended use
The device can be used toextract cooking vapours
when cooking.
Thisdevice hasbeen exclusivelyintended forthis
purposeandmustonlybe put to thisuse. The
device mayonlybeused inthe mannerdescribed in
thismanual.
Anyotheruseof ormodification tothedeviceis
considered improperusageand maylead to
damage.
If the deviceisused in extracted airmode at the
same timeasanopen firewhichusesairfrom the
room asitsoxygensupply(e.g. fireplace),a safety
device (e.g. in accordancewith DIN 18841:2005:12
TÜVand DVGW-VP121 tested under-pressure
monitorP4)must be installed which helpsprevent
gasesorwaste gasesbeing drawn(back) into the
room.
The manufacturerisnot liablefordamageswhich
occurasa resultof improperuse, incorrect
installation orincorrect operation. Thisdeviceisnot
intended forcommercialuse. Onlyuse thisdevice
in private kitchens.
Ban on independent conversions and
modifications
•Do not undertakeand independent modifications
of orconversionsto the device. Conversionsor
modificationswithout the approvalof berbel
AblufttechnikGmbH are not permitted.
•Neverbridge orbypass the protectiveequipment
found onthedevice.
Basic safety instructions
Thissection containsthe basicsafetyinstructions
forhandling the device. Additionalsafety
instructions, concerning the particularactionsand
processes, can befound inthe respective chapters.
•Take note of allsafetyinstructionsand danger
noticesin thismanual.
•Check the deviceandall itspartsforvisible
damage. In the event of damage, contact your
dealerorberbelcustomerservice. You mayonly
use thedeviceifitisinperfect working order.
•Always let qualified specialist personnelconduct
maintenanceorrepairwork. Otherwise, you
endangeryourselfandothers.
•Mount the device using the suppliedbracketsonly
on loadbearing building parts(solid construction).
•Use appropriate fastening mechanismsforany
othersortof installation. If in doubt, please check
with the dealer. Otherwise,you endangeryourself
and others.
•Onlyuse thisdevice in private kitchens.
Avoiding dangers causedbyelectricshock
•Onlylet trained, qualified electricianswork on the
powersupply.
The electriciansmust havethe following
knowledgeand abilitiesasa minimum:
−Basicknowledgeof electricalengineering
−Knowledgeof country-specificregulationsand
standards(e.g. in Germany, DIN 57100/VDE
0100, part701)
−Knowledgeof the applicable safetyregulations
−Knowledgeof the relevant legalrequirements
forgasinstallations(e.g. inGermanythe
technicalrulesforgasinstallationsTRGI).

•Onlyuse the deviceif it isconnected and fused in
accordance with the technicaldata.
•Do not kinkorcrush the mainscable.
•Do not use the device with a damaged electrical
connection cable.
•In the event of a malfunction, disconnect the
device from the mains.
•The mainsplug must beeasilyaccessible so that
you can quicklyand easilyisolatethedevicefrom
the mainssupplyintheevent of an emergency. If
the mainsplug isinaccessiblefollowing
installation, an all-pole isolatingdevicewith a
contact gap of at least 3 mm mustbe installed
and accessible.
•If the deviceismoved froma coldenvironment
intoa hot one, condensation mayform inside the
device. In thiscase waitabout two tothreehours
beforebringing the deviceinto service.
•Avoidexposing the deviceto dripping orsplashing
water. Do not placeobjectsfilled with fluidsonthe
device, flowervasesforexample.
•Keep the device dry.
•If fluiddoesenterthe device:
−Immediatelyshut off the powersupply, by
removing the fuse.
−Make sure that the powersupplycannot be
unintentionallyreconnected. Perhapsby
designating a person toprevent the fusebeing
switched on again.
−Allow the deviceto dry.
−Have the device checked and repaired by
trained, specialist personnelpriorto usingthe
device again.
Avoiding the risk ofexplosion
•Do not operatethedevicein an environment with
a risk of explosion.
Avoiding the risk of fire
•Make sure that the hobhascooled down before
you coverit.
Adirtydevice can causefire hazards.
•Keep the device in perfectworking orderand
check it regularly.
•Regularlyremoveanygrease residueswhichare
present. Grease residuespose a fire hazard.
•Do not flambé underneath the device. Naked
flamescan cause damage to neighbouring
cabinetsforexample.
•Onlyallowrepairwork on the device tobe carried
out bypersonnelwho havebeenspeciallytrained
forthispurpose.
In recirculatedairmode:
•Acovered orsealed ventilationoutletcan causea
fire hazard. Do not place anyobjectslikelidsor
platesforexample on orinfront oftheventilation
slitsof the device.In the case of recirculated air
devices, outflowing airmust be able toescape
back into the kitchen through theventilation slits
without impediment.
•No objectsshouldbe mounted above the device
which couldimpede the airflow.Make sure that
outflowing airisable to flowinto the kitchen
without impediment.
The device mayonlybe installed overa fireplace for
solidfuels(e.g. a coal-burning stove)if:
•the fireplacehasa sealed coverwhichcannot be
removed.Otherwise there is an increased fire risk
due to flyingsparks.
•the legaland country-specificregulationsare
observed.
Avoiding risks of injury
•To preventtherisk of falling, usea stable
stepladderforall work on the device, forexample
replacing the filter,installing and cleaning the
device.
•To preventinjury from falling parts, onlyuse
suitablefastening materials.
•To preventcutsfrom broken glass, use suitable
protectivegloves.

Avoiding the risk of suffocation
If the deviceand anopen fireplacewhich usesair
from the room foritsoxygen supply, gasesorwaste
gasesmaybe drawn into the room.
•Make sure that allsafetyequipmentrequiredby
the regulationsin forcein yourcountry are
working properly(e.g. the under-pressure monitor
P4 checkedin accordancewith DVGW-VP121
and inaccordance withDIN18841:2005-12 TÜV).
•Make sure that allofthepermitsrequiredfor
operation in yourcountry have been obtained
(e.g. the masterchimneysweep).
•Make sure that allstandardsand guidelinesfor
operating the device in yourcountry are observed.
•Ensure thereisanadequate supplyof freshair
intothedwelling.
•Neverletchildrenplaywith the foilorotherparts
of the packaging.
•Storethe film orotherpartsof the packaging in a
location whichisinaccessible to children.
Minimising the dangerof collapse
•The wall breakthrough that isneededmustbe
created bytechnicallyqualifiedpersons.Wall
breakthroughsaffect the building'sstructural
stability. Improperlymade wallbreakthroughs
could resultinthe buildingcollapsing.
Avoiding environmentaldamage
•Disposeof the device and itsaccessoriesin
accordance with the legalregulations.

Description
The following illustrationsshow the waythe
possible operatingmodeswork. The devices
used are shownassymbols. The illustrations
are meant to serve asa guide. The illustrated
device'sshape maydifferfrom yourdevice.
With thisdevice you can suck in and clean cooking
vapours.
Possible operating modes
The device can work indifferent operating modes:
•Recirculated airmode
•Extracted airmode
•Hybrid mode
The individualoperating modesaredescribedin the
next sections.
Recirculatedairmode
The device drawsin the airfrom the room, filters it
and passesthe cleanedairback into the room.
Thiscleaning isdone in severalcleaning steps. The
majorityofthedirtparticles,likegreaseandoil
particlesforexample, are collected from the air
drawn in from the roomin the lowergrease tray.
The filterfilling inthe recirculated airfilter
neutralisesanysmellyodours present. The odour-
free, cleaned room airisfed back into the room.
The filterfilling needsto be regularlyreplaced.
Extractedairmode
The device drawsin the airfrom the room, filters it
and passesthe cleanedairto the outsideof the
building.Thiscleaning isdone in severalcleaning
steps. The first cleaning step removesgreaseand
oilparticles, forexample, from the airdrawn in from
the room. The next cleaning step removeslight,
airborne particles(e.g. fluff)from the airdrawn in
from the room. The cleaned airisdischarged
outside.

Hybridmode
The device drawsinairfrom theroom, cleansitand
passessome of the cleaned roomairto the outside
of the building. The rest of the airdrawn in isfed
back into the room through the hybrid filter.
Thiscleaning isdone in severalcleaning steps. The
majorityofthedirtparticles,likegreaseandoil
particlesforexample, are collected from the air
drawn in from the roomin the lowergrease tray.
Part of the cleaned airisfed outside the building,
the filterfilling in the hybridfilterneutralisesany
smellsin the remaining room airwhichwasdrawn
in. The odourless, cleanedroom airisthen fedback
intotheroom.
The filterfilling needsto be regularlyreplaced.

The device iscontrolled using the controlpanelin the
middle of the front panel. Thisdevice isfitted with an
ECOSwitch controlpanel.The symbolsof the
functionswhich can be runare lit dimly. Touchthe
controlpanelwith yourfingerlightlyto run the desired
function. The symbolsof the activefunctionsare
brightlylit.
The ECOswitch controlpanelneedsa shorttime
to adjustitself to the ambient conditionsafterthe
mainspoweristurned on. During thistime, it
cannot be operated.
ØWait around 10 secondsafteryou turnthe
mainspoweron.
If, aftertouching the panelrepeatedly, the
function isnot carried out:
ØClean the controlpanel.
ØBrieflydisconnect the mainspower.
ØTo activate the desired function, touchthe respective
area with yourfinger.

button on the touch pad, before you can use the
ventilation function and all otherfunctions(e.g. the
lighting)of the device.
After6 hours of continuousoperation the
device automaticallyswitchesoff.
ØIf required,turn the deviceon again.
The device isturnedoff.
To turn the deviceon, proceed asfollows:
ØBrieflytouch the touch pad "ON/OFF".
Allthe operating symbolsare dimlylit.
The device isreadyforuse.

If the automaticrun-on functionisturned off:
You turn the deviceoff bypressing touch pad
"ON/OFF". The activeventilation and lighting of the
controlsymbolswillbe turned off.
ØIf you touch the touch pad "ON/OFF"again
within two seconds, the run-on functionis
turned on.

on/off")
The hob and the effectlighting do not change their
current status.
Lighting that isswitched on can beswitched off by
pressing the relevant touchpad.
If the automaticrun-on functionisturned on,
the controlsymbolof the last selectedpower
levelblinks, all the remaining symbolsare
turned off
the device operatesfora furthertenminutesat
the last selected powerlevel
The ventilation function andthe blinking symbol
are automaticallyturnedoffafter10 minutes.

flame should not extend beyond the

You can operate the devicein variouspower

To remove cooking vapoursbest:
ØTurn thedeviceon when you start cooking.
ØIf you arefrying, turnthe device to its
highest powersetting.
ØWhen you have finished cooking,turn the
switch-off delaymode on.

Changing the powerlevel

Ensure that the deviceisturned on.
ØTo turnon the ventilation function, touch the area of
the desired powerlevelfrom 1 to 4.
Example:You want to turn on powerlevel4 (i.e.
maximum fan power).
ØBrieflytouch the touch pad forpowerlevel4.
The device operatesinpowerlevel4 aschosen.
Allthe controlsymbolsaredimlylit, the controlsymbol
forthe selected powerlevel4 isbrightlylit.
Changing the power level
ØTo change the powerlevel,touch the symbolof the
powerleveldesired.
The device operatesin the selectedpowerlevel.
The symboloftheselected powerlevelisbrightlylit.
Turning offtheventilation function
ØTo turnoff the ventilation function, brieflytouch the
touch pad "ON/OFF".
The activeventilation and controlsymbolswill be
turned off.
The device isturnedoff.
If the automaticrun-on functionisactivatedinthe
configuration mode, the device will run fora furtherten
minutesin thelast selectedpowerlevel. Then the
device willturn offtheventilation mode.

Manuallyturning on the run-onfunction
The device comeswith a run-on function. Ifyou use
thisfunction, the device will work fora furtherten
minutesatthelast chosen powerlevel. Then the
device willturn offtheventilation mode.
During the run-on time, the operating symbolof the last
selectedpowerlevelwillblink.
ØTo turnon the run-on function press the touch pad
twice while the device isoperating.
The device continuesto work in theselected power
leveland itscontrolsymbolblinks.
Automaticallyturningontherun-onfunction
You can set the deviceup so that when the ventilation
function isturned off, the run-on functionis
automaticallyturned on.
See the section "Automaticrun-on function"onpage
22.

ØTo turnoff the run-on function while it isoperating,
brieflytouchthe touchpad .
The device turnsthe last chosen ventilation function
off.

The device isfitted with an energysaving LEDlight for
lighting up the hob.
The lighting canbe used independentlyof the
ventilation function.
ØTo turnon the lighting, brieflypress the touchpad .
The lighting isturned on, and the controlsymbolis
brightlylit.
ØTo turnoff thelighting, brieflypress the touchpad 
again.
The lighting isswitched off, the controlsymbolisdimly
lit.
Using the extraction mode/recirculated air
mode selection
Thisfunctionisdisabledbydefault.
Thisfunctioncan onlybe used:
Øafterthe function hasbeen activated in
configuration mode and
Ø
when used in conjunction with a berbelBMK
Fwallboxanda BHFhybrid filter.
You can choose between the extraction mode and
recirculated airmode at anytime.
When the windowsare shut, the deviceturns
off the extraction mode if the windowcontact
isclosed.When switching to recirculated air
mode, the last selected powerlevelisturned
on and the BMKFwallboxisclosed.
If the extraction mode/ recirculatedairmode function
isactivated, the controlsymbolisdimlylit.
The device works intheextraction mode, i.e. the BMK
Fwallboxisopen, andthe airdrawn into the deviceis
fed outside.
To switch to recirculated airmode:
ØBrieflytouch the touch pad .
The controlsymbollightsbrightly.

Controlindicators

The device operating modeisswitched from extraction
modeto recirculated airmode, the controlsymbolis
brightlylitand the BMKFwallboxisclosed.The air
drawn into the device isfedback into the room.
To change from recirculated airmode toextraction
mode:
ØBrieflytouch the touch pad .
The controlsymbolisdimlylitand the BMKFwall
boxisopened.
Control indicators
The controlindicators on the controlpanelremind you
to perform certainmaintenance tasks.
Controlindicator: Change therecirculated air
filter/filling
Thisindicatorblinks afterevery 350 hours of operation,
when the deviceisused inrecirculated airmode.
ØReplace the recirculated airfilter/filling

To reset the indicatorwhenyou havechanged the filter
filling and to reset the hourmeter,proceed asfollows:
ØTurn theconfiguration mode on.
ØBrieflytouch the touch pad (powerlevel3).
The symbolofthetouchpad (powerlevel3)is
brightlylitand the blinking symbolto indicate that the
filter/filling mustbe changed isturned off.
ØTurn theconfiguration mode off.

configuration mode:
Activatecontrolindicator "Effectlighting"(with
touch pad powerlevel1).
Thisfunctionisdeactivatedon thisdevice.
You can turn the effect lighting on and off bybriefly
touching the touchpad .
Activatecontrolindicator "extraction
mode/recirculatedairmode"(with touch pad 
powerlevel2)
You can changebetween extraction
mode/recirculatedairmode afteryouhaveleft the
configuration mode bybrieflytouchingtouch
pad .
Reset controlindicator "changetherecirculatedair
filter/filling"(with touchpad powerlevel3)
Turn on andoff the automaticrun-onfunction(with
touch pad powerlevel4)
Turningonthe configurationmode
To turnon the configurationmode, proceed asfollows:
ØEnsure that the ventilation function isswitchedoff.
ØTouch and hold touch pad formorethan 10
secondsuntilallthe operating symbolsblinkfive
times.
Allthe operating symbolsblinkfivetimes. The
configuration modeisturned on.
ØConfigurethesettingsasdesired.
Turningoff the configurationmode
To turnoff the configurationmode, proceed asfollows:
ØBrieflytouch the touch pad .
Allthe operating symbolslight up brightlyforfive
seconds. The settingsarenow saved.
The configuration mode isturned off.
The device isreadyforuseagain.
Optional: turning theeffect lightingsetting onand off
Asdelivered, the effect lightingfunctionisturned off.
To turnon the optionaleffect lighting function, proceed
asfollows:
ØTurn theconfiguration mode on.
ØBrieflytouch the touch pad (powerlevel1).
The symbolforthe optionaleffectlighting function is
dimlylit and the function isactivated.
ØTurn theconfiguration mode off.
