IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Please be aware of the following basic safety instructions when using your
machine. Before using this machine, read instruction manual carefully.
DANGER!
To reduce the risk of electrical shock:
• Never leave the machine unattended as long as it is plugged in.
• Always unplug the machine from the electrical outlet immediately after
using.
Protection against LED radiation:
• Do not view the LED light directly with optical instruments (e.g. magnifier).
The LED light corresponds with protection class 1M.
• When the LED light is damaged or defective, contact your BERNINA specialist
dealer.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of burns, fire, electric shock or injury to persons:
General facts
• To assemble the system at least 2 adult people are needed.
Working environment
• Do not install and use the system outdoors.
• Do not use the system in damp or wet conditions.
• Do not use the system in corrosive environments or environments with
chemical influences.
• Do not use the system in the vicinity of combustible solvents, fuels and/or
explosive substances (e.g. gas, vapor, dust, etc.).
• Do not use the system at temperatures outside the permissible temperature
range of 5 to 45 °C.
• Do not expose the system components to any vibrations and/or impact
loads.
Technical condition
• Do not use the system if a cable or a plug is damaged. Replace damaged
system components with original replacement parts immediately. Never
perform repairs to damaged cables.
Important safety instructions
5
• Do not use the system if it is not working properly. If the system is not
working correctly, contact your nearest BERNINA specialist.
Accessories and Supplies
• Only use replacement parts and accessory parts authorized or provided by
BERNINA.
Safety instructions
• Safety equipment must be installed and set up correctly.
Appropriate use
• Use this system only for purposes as described in this manual.
• The system may be used, cleaned and maintained by children older than
eight or by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or if
there is a lack of experience and knowledge as long as they have been given
instructions. These persons must be supervised while working with the
system, and/or they must know the safe operation of the machine and be
aware of the resulting hazards.
• Moreover, these persons must possess the training, instruction and
authorization to switch electrical circuits and devices on and off in
accordance with the applicable safety regulations.
Before assembly:
• The Q-matic may only be fitted on a quilt frame if the spacing between the
front and rear legs is 89.4cm (35.2inches).
During assembly:
• Before assembly, check all system components for transport damage.
Contact a BERNINA specialist if system components need to be repaired or
replaced.
• Do not raise system components by their cables.
• Keep cables away from heat, sharp edges and moisture.
• Do not crush or stretch cables and avoid tripping hazards.
• Before connecting the power source and initializing the system, ensure that
the system is clean and dry.
• During assembly, ensure that your fingers do not get trapped or caught.
During operation:
• Before operation, check all system components for installation damage. Do
not disassemble the system or damaged system components. Contact a
BERNINA specialist if system components need to be repaired or replaced.
• Do not insert any objects into the system when it is connected to the power
supply.
Important safety instructions
6
• To disconnect, set the power switch on the control cabinet to «0» and then
remove the plug from the outlet.
• Remove the power cable from the outlet by pulling on the plug. Do not pull
on the cable.
• Remove the plug before carrying out any cleaning and maintenance work.
• Before connecting the power source and switching on the system, ensure
that the system is clean and dry.
• Children must not be in the vicinity of the system unsupervised when it is
working in automatic operation.
• Do not use the system as a toy. Increased caution is advised when the Q-
matic system is used by or near children.
• Children are not allowed to play with the system.
• Do not stand or sit on the quilt frame. Improper use of the system may lead
to serious injury.
• Staying within (between the fabric rails and the table) or beneath the quilt
frame is prohibited during automatic operation.
• Side clamps may detach from the fabric. Children (or small persons) should
therefore avoid the sides of the quilt frame, where the side clamp may be
flung out.
• The system must be switched off using the main switch, not the emergency
stop button. The emergency stop button is only intended for use in
emergency situations.
• If the all-in-one PC is connected via the control cabinet, it must be shut
down before switching off the Q-matic system, otherwise this may cause
damage to the software or the operating system, or lead to loss of data.
• When the system is switched on, no cables must be plugged in or
unplugged.
Information on grounded devices with power cable
In the event of a malfunction or technical defect, the grounding provides the path
of least resistance for electricity, therefore protecting the user against an electric
shock. Improper handling of the ground wire may result in the risk of an electric
shock.
• The control cabinet must be grounded. The power cable supplied with the
device is fitted with a ground wire and a grounding plug. The plug must be
connected to a suitable, properly installed and grounded power outlet which
complies with local safety regulations.
• No change or modification can be made to the plug supplied. If the plug
does not fit into the intended power outlet, have a suitable power outlet
installed by a qualified electrician.
Important safety instructions
7
• The ground wire can be recognized by its green flex, with or without yellow
stripes. If the power cable or power outlet has to be repaired or replaced,
the ground wire cannot be connected to a current-carrying power outlet. If
you have not understood the instructions for equipment grounding, or are
unsure as to whether the device is properly grounded, consult a qualified
electrician or customer service technician.

PRINTED USER GUIDE
Registered users of BERNINA Q-matic software are permitted to create one (1)
copy of the BERNINA Q-matic instruction manual for personal use. This can be
printed using a private printer or a commercial printing office.
LIMITED WARRANTY
BERNINA International AG warrants for a period of 90 days, commencing from
the date of handover of the software to you, that the product is free from defects
in materials and workmanship. You have the option, during the warranty period
only, to return the products covered by this warranty, together with proof of
purchase for the former, to BERNINA or an authorized BERNINA specialist. You
receive a replacement free of charge. You pay for any shipping and insurance

International AG expressly refuses to recognize any other warranties and
conditions, whether these are expressed or implied, including without limitation,
warranties and conditions of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose,

does not guarantee that the software meets the purchaser's requirements, runs
without any interruptions or errors or appears as shown in the accompanying
documentation.
LIMITED LIABILITY
Where legally permissible, under no circumstances will BERNINA International AG
or its developers, officers, employees or subsidiaries be liable to you for any
consequential, incidental or indirect damages (including damages for loss of
business profits, business interruption, loss of business information and the like),
whether foreseeable or unforeseeable, arising out of the use of or inability to use
the software or the control cabinet and cable supplied, as well as the instruction
manual, regardless of the basis of the claim and even if BERNINA or an authorized
BERNINA representative has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Some states or jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of incidental,
consequential or special damages, so the above limitations of liability may not
apply to you.
TERMINATION
Your license to use the BERNINA Q-matic software is effective as long as you
comply with the terms and conditions of the License Agreement. If you fail to
comply with the terms and conditions of the License Agreement, this license shall
automatically be terminated immediately and without notice by BERNINA
International AG. You may terminate this license at any time by returning the
BERNINA Q-matic software and all copies thereof, the control cabinet and cables,
as well as all accompanying documentation, to BERNINA International AG.
Use of antivirus software and other programs:
As a general rule, no programs other than the software already installed upon
delivery should be installed on the all-in-one PC supplied with the Q-matic. The
Internet should only be accessed if this is expressly demanded by BERNINA or Art
& Stitch customer service/support in connection with technical support. In
addition, specifically, no antivirus software should be used other than the
«Windows Defender» program already installed under Windows 10. Only if these
measures are followed will the Q-matic system work without any problems. For
this reason, always use your personal laptop or PC to surf the Internet in order to
purchase designs or run other software.
License agreements for Q-matic software and Art & Stitch software
The license agreements for the Q-matic software and Art & Stitch software are
automatically accepted by the owner/user when the software is installed and
used.

Important information
Availability of the instruction manual
The manual forms part of the system.
• Store the manuals of the system components in a suitable location near the product and keep them
available to consult.
• If the product is passed on to third parties, always include the manual with the product.
Proper use
The BERNINA Q-matic automation system is conceived and designed for private household use. It is used for
the automated quilting of quilt patterns that you create yourself using machines of the BERNINA Q Series on
the quilting frame. Any other use is not considered proper. BERNINA assumes no liability concerning
consequences resulting from an improper use.
Equipment and scope of delivery
Example images are used in these operating instructions for the purposes of illustration. The machines shown
in the images and the accessories shown therefore do not always match the actual items included with your
machine. The supplied accessory can vary depending on the country of delivery. You can acquire any
accessories mentioned or shown that are not included in the scope of delivery as optional accessories from a
specialist BERNINA dealer. Further accessories can be found at www.bernina.com.
For technical reasons and in order to improve the product, changes may be made to the equipment of the
machine and the scope of delivery at any time and without prior notice.
Maintenance of double-insulated products
In a double-insulated product, two systems of insulation are provided instead of grounding. No grounding
means is provided on a double-insulated product nor should a means for grounding be added to the
product. Servicing a double-insulated product requires extreme care and knowledge of the system and
should only be done by qualified service personnel. Only original spare parts should be used for service and
repairs. A double-insulated product is marked with the words: «Double-Insulation »or «double-insulated».
The symbol may also be marked on the product.
Environmental Protection
BERNINA is committed to the protection of the environment. We strive to minimize the environmental impact
of our products by continuously improving product design and our technology of manufacturing.
The machine is labeled with the symbol of the crossed-out wastebin. This means that the machine should
not be disposed of in household waste when it is no longer needed. Improper disposal can result in
dangerous substances getting into the groundwater and thus into our food chain, damaging our health.
The machine must be returned free of charge to a nearby collection point for waste electrical and electronic
equipment or to a collection point for the reuse of the machine. Information on the collection points can be
obtained from your local administration. When purchasing a new machine, the dealer is obliged to take back
the old machine free of charge and dispose of it properly.
If the machine contains personal data, you are responsible for deleting the data yourself before returning the
machine.
