Intended use
Your Black & Decker 36V cordless sweeper has been
designed for clearing dry leaves from hard surfaces such as
decks and dry lawns. This appliance is intended for consumer
and outdoor use only.
General appliance safety warnings
@Warning! When using mains-powered/cordless
appliances, basic safety precautions, including
the following, should always be followed to
reduce the risk of re, electric shock, personal
injury and material damage.
uRead all of this manual carefully before using the appli-
ance, be familiar with the controls and the proper use of
the appliance.
uThe intended use is described in this manual. The use of
any accessory or attachment or the performance of any
operation with this appliance other than those recom-
mended in this instruction manual may present a risk of
personal injury.
The term "appliance" in all of the warnings listed below refers
to your mains operated (corded) appliance or battery operated
(cordless) appliance.
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
Using your appliance
uAlways take care when using the appliance.
uKeep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas
invite accidents.
u Only use the appliance in daylight or good articial light.
uDo not operate your appliance in explosive atmospheres,
such as in the presence of ammable liquids, gases or
dust.
uNever allow children or people unfamiliar with the instruc-
tions to use the appliance, local regulations may restrict
the age of the operator.
uDo not allow children or animals to come near the work
area or touch the appliance supply cord.
uKeep children, bystanders and animals away while
operating an appliance. Distractions can cause you to lose
control.
uThe appliance is not to be used as a toy.
uDo not immerse the appliance in water.
uDo not open body casing. There are no userserviceable
parts inside.
Personal safety
uStay alert, watch what you are doing and use common
sense when operating an appliance. Do not use an appli-
ance while you are tired or under the inuence of drugs,
alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while
operating an appliance may result in serious personal
injury.
u Where required, use personal protective equipment. Pro-
tective equipment such as eye protection, dust mask, non-
skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for
appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
u Prevent unintentional starting. Make sure that the switch
is in the off-position before connecting to a power source
and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the appli-
ance. Carrying appliances with your nger on the switch
or energising appliances that have the switch on invites
accidents.
uDo not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at
all times. This enables better control of the appliance in
unexpected situations.
uDress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery.
Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving
parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught
in moving parts.
Appliance use and care
uBefore use, check the appliance for damaged or defective
parts. Check for breakage of parts, damage to switches
and any other conditions that may affect its operation.
uDo not use the appliance if the switch does not turn it on
and off. Any appliance that cannot be controlled with the
switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
uDisconnect the plug from the power source and/or the
battery pack from the appliance before making any adjust-
ments, changing accessories, or storing appliances. Such
preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the
appliance accidentally.
uWhere applicable, keep cutting tools sharp and clean.
Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges
are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
uDo not use the appliance if any part is damaged or defec-
tive.
uHave any damaged or defective parts repaired or replaced
by an authorised repair agent.
uNever attempt to remove or replace any parts other than
those specied in this manual.
Electrical safety
uAppliance plugs must match the outlet. Never modify
the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with
earthed (grounded) appliance. Unmodied plugs and
matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.

uDo not expose appliance to rain or wet conditions. Water
entering a appliance will increase the risk of electric
shock.
uDo not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying,
pulling or unplugging the appliance. Keep cord away
from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or
entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
uWhen operating an appliance outdoors, use an extension
cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for
outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
After Use
uWhen not in use, the appliance should be stored in a dry,
well ventilated place out of the reach of children.
uChildren should not have access to stored appliances.
uWhen the appliance is stored or transported in a vehicle
it should be placed in the boot or restrained to prevent
movement following sudden changes in speed or direc-
tion.
Service
u Have your appliance serviced by a qualied repair person
using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure
that the safety of the appliance is maintained.
u Power to the tool should always be supplied via residual
current device with a rated residual current of 30mA or
less.
Additional Safety instructions for sweeper
The intended use is described in this manual. The use of any
accessory or attachment or performance of any operation
with this appliance other than those recommended in this
instruction manual can present a risk of personal injury and/or
damage to property.
uTo protect your feet and legs while operating the appli-
ance, always wear heavy duty footwear and long trousers.
uAlways switch off your product, allow the fan to stop and
remove the plug from the socket when:
uThe supply cable has become damaged or entangled.
uYou leave your product unattended.
uChecking, adjusting, cleaning or working on your
product.
uIf the appliance starts to vibrate abnormally.
uDo not place the inlet or outlet of the sweeper near eyes
or ears when operating. Never blow debris in the direction
of bystanders.
uDo not use in the rain or leave outdoors while it is raining.
uDo not cross gravel paths or roads whilst your product is
switched on during blow mode. Walk, never run.
uDo not place your unit down on gravel while it is switched
on.
uAlways be sure of your footing, particularly on slopes. Do
not overreach and keep your balance at all times.
uDo not place any objects into the openings. Never use if
the openings are blocked - keep free of hair, lint, dust and
anything that may reduce the airow.
Warning! Always use your product in the manner outlined in
this manual. Your product is designed to be used in an upright
mode and if it is used in any other way it may result in injury.
Never run your product whilst lying on it’s side or upside down.
uThe operator or user is responsible for accidents or
hazards occurring to other people or their property.
uDo not carry the appliance by the cable.
uAlways direct the cable to the rear away from the appli-
ance.
Warning! If a cord becomes damaged during use, disconnect
the supply cord from the mains supply immediately. Do not
touch the supply cord before disconnecting the supply.
u Do not use solvents or cleaning uids to clean your
product. Use a blunt scraper to remove grass and dirt.
uReplacement fans are available from a Black & Decker
service agent. Use on Black & Decker recommended
spare parts and accessories.
uKeep all nuts bolts and screws tight to make sure that the
appliance is in a safe working condition.
Safety of others
uThis appliance is not intended for use by persons (includ-
ing children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental
capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless
they have been given supervision or instruction concern-
ing use of the appliance by a person responsible for their
safety.
uChildren should be supervised to ensure that they do not
play with the appliance.
Residual risks.
Additional residual risks may arise when using the tool which
may not be included in the enclosed safety warnings. These
risks can arise from misuse, prolonged use etc.
Even with the application of the relevant safety regulations
and the implementation of safety devices, certain residual
risks can not be avoided. These include:
uInjuries caused by touching any rotating/moving parts.
uInjuries caused when changing any parts, blades or ac-
cessories.
uInjuries caused by prolonged use of a tool. When using
any tool for prolonged periods ensure you take regular
breaks.
uImpairment of hearing.
uHealth hazards caused by breathing dust developed when
using your tool (example:- working with wood, especially
oak, beech and MDF.)

The following pictograms are shown on the tool:
Warning! Read the manual prior to operation.
Wear suitable ear protection when operating this
appliance.
RDo not expose the tool to rain or high humidity or
leave outdoors while it is raining.
Switch the tool off. Before performing any
maintenance on the tool, remove the battery
from the tool.
Keep people and animals at least 6 m away from
the work area.
Keep bystanders away.
Additional safety instructions for batteries and
chargers
Batteries
uNever attempt to open for any reason.
uDo not expose the battery to water.
uDo not expose the battery to heat.
uDo not store in locations where the temperature may
exceed 40 °C.
uCharge only at ambient temperatures between 10 °C and
40 °C.
uCharge only using the charger provided with the ap-
plaince/tool. Using the wrong charger could result in an
electric shock or overheating of the battery.
uWhen disposing of batteries, follow the instructions given
in the section "Protecting the environment".
uDo not damage/deform the battery pack either by puncture
or impact, as this may create a risk of injury and re. Do
not charge damaged batteries.
uUnder extreme conditions, battery leakage may occur.
When you notice liquid on the batteries Carefully wipe the
liquid off using a cloth. Avoid skin contact.
uIn case of skin or eye contact, follow the instrucitons
below.
Warning! The battery uid may cause personal injury or
damage to property. In case of skin contact, immediately rinse
with water. If redness, pain or irritation occurs seek medical
attention. In case of eye contact, rinse immediately with clean
water and seek medical attention.
pDo not attempt to charge damaged batteries.
Chargers
Your charger has been desinged for a specic voltage. Al-
ways check that the mains voltage corresponds to the voltage
on the rating plate.
Warning! Never attempt to replace the charger unit with a
regular mains plug.
uUse your Black & Decker charger only to charge the bat-
tery in the applaince/tool with which it was supplied. Other
batteries could burst, causing personal injury and damage.
uNever attempt to charge non-rechargeable batteries.
uIf the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the
manufacturer or an authorised Black & Decker Service
Centre in order to avoid a hazard.
uDo not expose the charger to water.
uDo not open the charger.
uDo not probe the charger.
uThe appliance/tool/battery must be placed in a well venti-
lated area when charging.
$The charger is intended for indoor use only.
Read the instruction manual before use.
Electrical safety
#Your charger is double insulated; therefore no
earth wire is required. Always check that the
mains voltage corresponds to the voltage on the
rating plate. Never attempt to replace the charger
unit with a regular mains plug.
uIf the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the
manufacturer or an authorised Black & Decker Service

Assembly
@Warning! Before assembly, make sure that
the appliance is switched off and the battery is
removed.
@Warning! Always wear protective gloves when
working with your cordless sweeper.
Charging Procedure (g. A & B)
The standard charger provided will charge a fully depleted
battery in about 2 hours. A 80% charge is available in 1 hour.
u Plug the charger into an appropriate outlet before inserting
the battery pack.
u Insert the battery pack into the charger as shown in gure
A.
uThe green LED (gure A1) will ash indicating that
the battery is being charged.
uThe completion of charge is indicated by the green
LED (gure A1) remaining on continuously. The pack is
fully charged and may be used at this time or left on the
charger.
Recharge discharged batteries as soon as possible after use
or battery life may be greatly diminished.
CHARGER DIAGNOSTICS
This charger is designed to detect certain problems that can
arise with the battery packs or the power source. Problems
are indicated by one LED (gure A1) ashing in different
patterns.
BAD BATTERY
The charger can detect a weak or damaged bat-
tery. The red LED ashes in the pattern indicated
on the label. If you see this bad battery blink
pattern, do not continue to charge the battery.
Return it to a service center or a collection site
for recycling.
HOT/COLD PACK DELAY
When the charger detects a battery that is
excessively hot or excessively cold, it automati-
cally starts a Hot/Cold Pack Delay, suspending
charging until the battery has normalized. After
this happens, the charger automatically switches
to the Pack Charging mode. This feature ensures
maximum battery life. The red LED ashes in the
pattern indicated on the label when the hot / cold
pack delay is detected
.
LEAVING THE BATTERY IN THE CHARGER
The charger and battery pack can be left connected with the
green LED glowing indenitely. The charger will keep the bat-
tery pack fresh and fully charged.
IMPORTANT CHARGING NOTES
uLongest life and best performance can be obtained if
the battery pack is charged when the air temperature is
between 60°F and 80°F (16°- 27°C). DO NOT charge the
battery pack in an air temperature below +40°F (+4.5°C),
or above +105°F (+40.5°C). This is important and will
prevent serious damage to the battery pack.
uThe charger and battery pack may become warm to touch
while charging. This is a normal condition, and does not
indicate a problem. To facilitate the cooling of the battery
pack after use, avoid placing the charger or battery pack
in a warm environment such as in a metal shed, or an
uninsulated trailer.
uIf the battery pack does not charge properly:
a. Check current at receptacle by plugging in a lamp or
other appliance
b. Check to see if receptacle is connected to a light switch
which turns power off when you turn out the lights.
c. Move charger and battery pack to a location where the
surrounding air temperature is approximately 60°F - 80°F
(16° - 27°C).
d. If charging problems persist, take the tool, battery pack
and charger to your local service center.
uThe battery pack should be recharged when it fails to
produce sufcient power on jobs which were easily done
previously. DO NOT CONTINUE to use under these
conditions. Follow the charging procedure. You may also
charge a partially used pack whenever you desire with no
adverse affect on the battery pack.
u Foreign materials of a conductive nature such as, but
not limited to, steel wool, aluminum foil, or any buildup
of metallic particles should be kept away from charger
cavities. Always unplug the charger from the power supply
when there is no battery pack in the cavity. Unplug charger
before attempting to clean.
uDo not freeze or immerse charger in water or any other
liquid.

@Warning! Shock hazard. Do not allow any liq-
uid to get inside charger. Never attempt to open
the battery pack for any reason. If the plastic
housing of the battery pack breaks or cracks,
return to a service center for recycling.
STATE OF CHARGE INDICATOR (FIGURE B)
The back of the battery is equipped with a state of charge in-
dicator. This can be used to display the current level of charge
in the battery during use and during charging. It does not
indicate tool functionality and is subject to variation based on
product components, temperature and end-user application.
Checking state of charge during use:
u Press the state of charge indicator button (B1).
uThe four LED’s (B2) will illuminate indicating the percent of
charge in the battery. See chart in gure B.
uIf LED light does not lluminate, charge battery.
Note! This battery is designed to not operate when a charge
below 20% of its capacity is reached. After the battery charge
is depleated, the toll will not operate until after the battery has
been recharged.
Installing and removing the battery pack
@ WARNING! Make certain the tool is switched off
before removing or installing battery.
TO INSTALL BATTERY PACK:
Insert battery pack into tool until fully seated and an audible
click is heard (gure C). Make sure battery pack is fully seated
and fully latched into position.
TO REMOVE BATTERY PACK:
battery release button in the back of the battery pack and pull
battery pack out of tool.
@ WARNING! Before assembly, make sure that
the tool is switched off and the battery has been
removed.
Tube assembly (g. D)
To attach the inner tube to the sweeper, line up the tube with
the sweeper housing as shown in gure D. Push the tube into
the sweeper housing until the lock button engages the lock
hole in the tube. Repeat this process for the outer tube.
Note! Ensure the sweeper is switched off and the battery is
removed before attaching or removing the sweeper tubes. The
tube assembly must be assembled to the housing before use.
Opearation
always wear safety glasses. wear A lter mask if the operation
is dusty. use of rubber gloves and substantial footwear is rec-
ommended when working outdoors. For household use only.
@ WARNING! Cut Hazard. When turning the tool
off for tube installation or any other reason, wait
10 seconds for the fan to stop rotating before
disassembly.
Always switch off and remove the battery when:
uThe power supply cord has become damaged or entan-
gled.
uYou leave sweeper unattended.
uChecking, adjusting, cleaning or working on sweeper.
Use sweeper only in daylight or good artificial light.
SWITCHING ON AND OFF (FIGURE E)
@ WARNING! Use both hands to grip the product
rmly when switching on.
To switch the sweeper on, slide the on/off switch forward.
To switch the sweeper off, slide the on/off switch back.
@ CAUTION! Do not point unit discharge at self or
bystanders.
POWER COMMAND (Figure F)
MAX POWER / MAX RUNTIME
The max power / max runtime feature (F1) is located on the
tool handle. It allows you to optimize the tools performance
and boost the power as needed.
uTo choose max power, rotate dial to setting 6.
uTo maximize runtime rotate dial to setting 1.
u For a combination of both, rotate dial to setting from 2 to
5.
Sweeper Opearation
@ CAUTION! Always wear safety glasses. Wear
a lter mask if the operation is dusty. Use of
gloves, long pants and substantial footwear is
recommended. Keep long hair and loose clothing
away from openings and moving parts. THIS
SWEEPER IS FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY.
Note! Ensure the sweeper is switched off and the battery is
removed before attaching or removing the sweeper tubes. The
sweeper tube must be assembled to the housing before use.
Install battery after assembly just prior to use.
u Hold the sweeper with one hand as shown in gure G and
sweep from side to side with the nozzle several inches
above the hard surface. Slowly advance keeping the ac-
cumulated pile of debris in front of you.

Maintenance
Your Black & Decker appliance has been designed to operate
over a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance.
Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper appli-
ance care and regular cleaning.
uSwitch off and unplug the appliance/tool.
uOr switch off and remove the battery from the appliance/
tool if the appliance/tool has a separate battery pack.
uOr run the battery down completely if it is integral and then
switch off.
uUnplug the charger before cleaning it. Your charger does
not require any maintenance apart from regular cleaning.
uRegularly clean the ventilation slots in your tool/appliance
and charger using a soft brush or dry cloth.
uRegularly clean the motor housing using a damp cloth. Do
not use any abrasive or solvent-based cleaner.
uKeep the appliance clean and dry.
Protecting the environment
Separate collection. This product must not be
disposed of with normal household waste.
Should you nd one day that your Black & Decker product
needs replacement, or if it is of no further use to you, do not
dispose of it with household waste. Make this product avail-
able for separate collection.
zSeparate collection of used products and
packaging allows materials to be recycled and
used again. Re-use of recycled materials helps
prevent environmental pollution and reduces the
demand for raw materials.
Local regulations may provide for separate collection of elec-
trical products from the household, at municipal waste sites or
by the retailer when you purchase a new product.
Black & Decker provides a facility for the collection and
recycling of Black & Decker products once they have reached
the end of their working life. To take advantage of this service
please return your product to any authorised repair agent who
will collect them on our behalf.

agent by contacting your local Black & Decker ofce at

Batteries
ZAt the end of their useful life, discard batteries with
due care for our environment:
uRun the battery down completely, then remove it from the
tool.
u NiCd, NiMH and Li-Ion batteries are recyclable. Place
the battery(s) in a suitable packaging to ensure that the
terminals cannot be short-circuited. Take them to any
authorised repair agent or a local recycling station.
uDo not short-circuit the battery terminals.
u Do not dispose of the battery(s) in a re as this may result
in a risk of personal injury or an Explosion.
