BATTERY DON'TS ● Do not aempt to open the baery. ● Don't let a baery get hot to the touch when charging. ● Don't mix BlueNova LiFePO4 baeries with other types or brands, as they may not be compable. ● Don’t over-charge or over-discharge your baeries, as this may void your warranty. ● Don’t connect baery cables to the wrong baery terminals. Red to Red (+) / Black to Black (–). SIZING A BATTERY BANK It is advisable to use your baery to an 80% discharge level. This will promote long baery life and also reduce the amount of recharge me. MULTIPLE BATTERIES If there is more than one baery in the baery bank, the following guidelines should be used: ● Always use baeries of idencal make and model. ● Do not mix different types or brands of baeries. ● Make sure the baery cable is not undersized for the baery system. ● Make sure the baery cables are connected to the terminals correctly. If unsure, professional assistance is recommended. BATTERY CHARGING For maximum baery life, a baery must be recharged with a precision charger with accurate 14.2V bulk/absorpon and 13.6V float sengs. BlueNova baeries are not covered under warranty if they are not recharged correctly and properly. Once the baery is fully charged, disconnect it from the charger. The following charging voltages are recommended for maximum baery life for all BlueNova 13V baery models. Failure to do so can lead to over- or under charging and premature baery failure. BlueNova can recommend high quality Lithium LiFePO4 baery chargers. The DC-DC charger is to ensure the correct charging profile and voltage. An automac switch should be fied to isolate the Lithium baery as soon as the vehicle engine is turned off. Contact BlueNova for more informaon. SOLAR POWER Solar power can be used to easily recharge BlueNova baeries, when convenonal AC mains power is unavailable. It should be kept in mind that a solar power regulator must be used as the voltage output of solar panels is in the range of 16-22vdc depending on panel construcon and weather condions. We do not recommend self-regulaon as this method can lead to undercharging or overcharging of the baery and cause damage to the baery. We recommend that the regulator is suitable for LiFePO4 baeries at the correct charging profile. GENERATORS A petrol- or diesel-powered generator may be used in conjuncon with a suitable precision baery charger for recharging. We do not recommend that the baery be recharged from the "Charge Outlet" of the generator (if fied) as the charge regulaon on many generators is insufficient. Recharging a BlueNova LiFePO 4 baery from the "Charge Outlet" will void your warranty should the baery be damaged. KNOWING WHEN TO RECHARGE For maximum baery life in deep cycle applicaons, do not discharge the baery bank below 80%. Connually discharging the baery bank below 80% will shorten the baery life. FOR INVERTER/CHARGER APPLICATIONS Refer to your Inverter/Charger user’s manual to ensure that correct voltages have been set. BATTERY DISCHARGING The following cycle life can be achieved with your BlueNova LiFePO4 baery: <50% discharge – 5000 cycles <80% discharge – 3000 cycles 100% discharge – 2000 cycles LiFePO4 baeries do not hold a memory. If the maximum discharge rate (Amps) is exceeded, the internal BMS (Baery Management System) will switch the baery off. Refer to the baery’s specificaon sheet for the maximum A/h draw. PROCEDURE FOR REACTIVATING BATTERY’S INTERNAL BMS If baery voltage drops below 10V, the internal baery management system (BMS) will switch off. The baery will not accept a charge unl the baery’s BMS is reacvated. Depending on the baery’s voltage, this procedure can take a few seconds. ALTERNATORS

User Manual BN13V-108-1.4k 2 Erica Way ' Office: +27 21 205 2000 Somerset West Business Park * Technical Support: suppo[email protected].za Somerset West, 7130 8 Website: www.bluenova.co.za The following opons can be used to reacvate the baery if the above parameters have been exceeded: ● Aach jumper cable leads from a 12V vehicle crank baery to your BlueNova LiFePO4 baery’s terminals. ● Aach leads from a 12V charger to your BlueNova LiFePO4 baery’s terminals. ● Aach leads from another 12-13V baery to your BlueNova LiFePO4 baery’s terminals. ● When using a mulfuncon charger, disconnect the baery leads and then reconnect to the AC charging source. SAFETY & MAINTENANCE ● Do not short-circuit the baery terminals. ● Do not disassemble, pierce, cut or in any way physically alter any part of the baery. ● Do not burn, incinerate or otherwise subject the baery to extreme heat. BATTERY STORAGE GUIDELINES ● Always store baeries in a cool and well-venlated area – ideally 25°C ± 3°C. ● Store away from moisture and heat. ● Do not store baeries upside down for overly long periods. ● Check the open circuit voltage of stored baeries at least once per month. In order to prevent Deep Discharge Lockout (DDL) mode, recharge baeries sufficiently and frequently enough to prevent the open circuit voltage falling below 10V. ● Ensure that the stored baery’s state of charge is above 50% at all mes. 100% SOC is opmal. EMERGENCY & FIRST AID In case of fire: ● Evacuate danger zone. Open venlaon in the room. ● Exnguish fire with a CO2 fire exnguisher. Skin contact – Should baery contents come into contact with skin: ● Wash immediately with soap and water. ● If irritaon persists, seek medical aenon. Eye contact – Should baery contents come into contact with eyes: ● Rinse eyes immediately with clean water for at least 15 minutes. ● Seek medical aenon immediately aerwards. Ingeson – Should baery contents be ingested: ● Refrain from taking any emec or vomit-inducing medicine. ● Seek medical aenon immediately.
