Introduction
i
Any attempt to move the motor-
cycle, change its position, start
it without your permission, or
disconnect the battery will trig-
ger the alarm. The sensitivity of
the system is set in such a way
that slight vibrations of the
motorcycle will not trigger a
false alarm.
Once you have activated the
alarm, any attempted theft is
indicated acoustically by the
siren and visually by all four turn
indicators flashing at the same
time, and the integrated immo-
bilizer suppresses engine star-
ting.
Your anti-theft alarm is combi-
ned with a central locking sys-
tem that enables you to open
and close the cases, the top-
case, and the radio compart-
ment by remote control.
It also enables you to switch on
the map-reading light and the
ground lights automatically.
You can customize the anti-
theft alarm in certain ways to
suit your needs and prefe-
rences.
In order to protect the motorcy-
cle’s battery and ensure that
the engine can be started, the
alarm system deactivates itself
automatically a certain number
of days after being activated, al-
though it always remains active
for at least 7 days.

Overview and operation
1
Code card
The anti-theft alarm is supplied
complete with a sealed enve-
lope containing a code card 1.
The number stated on the code
card (remove the adhesive
label) is the code for deactiva-
ting the anti-theft alarm by
means of the ignition (b17).
We recommend carrying the
code card together with the
vehicle papers.
The code number is stamped in
encrypted form on the anti-theft
alarm and it is also printed on
an adhesive label 2supplied
with the anti-theft alarm. You
should affix the label at a con-
cealed location on the motorcy-
cle.
If you forget the code and are
unable to find the code card, an
authorized BMW motorcycle
retailer will be able to forward
the encrypted number to BMW
on your behalf and obtain the
correct code.

Immobilizer
2
If the immobilizer is active, the
motorcycle can not even be
started with an authorized key.
The activation of the immobili-
zer can be recognized from the
fact that LED 5lights up after
the ignition is switched on and
the pre-ride checks are com-
pleted.
The immobilizer and the alarm
function are activated together
with the remote control.
The automatic activation of the
immobilizer after the ignition is
switched off (factory setting) is
possible without activating the
alarm function (b26).
Activation
The immobilizer is activated
●by pressing button 1on the
remote control twice (including
alarm function)
or
●by switching off the ignition, if
programmed (b26)
After the ignition is switched off,
50 seconds pass until the acti-
vation phase is carried out.

Immobilizer
2
Activation
The activation of the immobili-
zer after the ignition is switched
off without the alarm function is
confirmed
●by the turn indicators flashing
once
and
●by the alarm tone sounding
once, if programmed (b26)
The activation of the immobili-
zer including the alarm function
by the remote control is confir-
med
●by the turn indicators flashing
twice
and
●by the alarm tone sounding
twice, if programmed (b26)
If the confirmation is followed by
the alarm tone sounding four
times, the anti-theft alarm indi-
cates that its internal battery is
discharged. The battery of the
anti-theft alarm is charged via
the onboard electrical system
so that a discharged vehicle
battery may be the cause of this
problem. When the battery of
the anti-theft alarm is dischar-
ged, disconnecting the vehicle
battery will not trigger an alarm.
If the sounding of the alarm
tone four times continues to
occur even after a longer drive,
please contact your BMW
motorcycle retailer.

Deactivation
Deactivation of immobi-
lizer with remote control
The immobilizer is deactivated
●by pressing button 2on the
remote control once (if the
immobilizer was automatically
activated by switching off the
ignition, it is reactivated after
30 seconds).
Deactivation is confirmed
●by the turn indicators flashing
once
and
●the alarm tone sounding once, if
programmed (b26)
If the confirmation is carried out
by the alarm tone sounding four
times, the anti-theft alarm indi-
cates that the voltage of the
onboard electrical system has
dropped below a certain value.
In this case, charge the motor-
cycle battery (bmotorcycle
Rider’s Manual).
Deactivation of immobi-
lizer without remote con-
trol
Corresponds to the procedure
for deactivation of the alarm
function without the remote
control (b15).

Reasons for an alarm
Reasons for an alarm
Once you have deactivated the
alarm function, the LED shows
you reasons for alarms, if any,
that were triggered in your
absence:
●Flash 1x:
Motion sensor
●Flash 2x:
Ignition on while the anti-theft
alarm was primed
●Flash 3x:
Anti-theft alarm disconnected
from motorcycle battery
The LED ceases to output this
signal after 1 minute, or as soon
as you switch on the ignition.
If more than one alarm was trig-
gered, the flashing codes indi-
cate all the reasons.

You can also check the system
at some subsequent time in
order to ascertain the reason
why the most recent alarm was
triggered. In order to do so, you
must first identify yourself by
means of your code number.
If the code number you entered
is correct, two acknowledg-
ment tones sound to indicate
that identification is completed.
If you now switch off the igni-
tion, the LED will flash to indi-
cate once the reason for the
most recent alarm, if any. Then
the alarm entry is deleted from
the memory.
