Reinventing the wheel. The BMW Motorrad Duolever.
The BMW K 1200 Sfeatures the patentedBMW Motorrad Duolever
front suspension system. The revolutionaryaspectoftheDuolever is
the wayit accommodates twoapparentlycontradictorydemands. It
makes along wheelbase possible,for smoother high speedcruising
but without compromising on agilityandcornering performance. Its
double trailing arm construction separates the suspension andwheel
control functions. This results in areduction in unwantedbrake dive,
while allowing the forks to bebuilt with ahigher torsional resistance.
The benefits for the rider are improvedsteering response,more agile
handling andahigh degree of stabilityunder braking.
The Duolever is mountedlowon the frame to ensure alowcentre of
gravityandoptimum balance. This also makes room for alarger airbox,
enhancing engine performanceeven further byincreasing air inflow.
Lighter,slimmer,more responsive. The Paralever.
With the latest generation of its Paralever rear suspension system,
BMW Motorrad hasfoundthe perfectcomplement to the Duolever
front suspension. But the Paralever is muchmorethanasuspension
system:it also transfers drive to the rearwheel andcompensates for
the load change in the shaft drive. The Paralever brace is sitedabove
the driveshaft,for better groundclearance,andthe improveddamping
of its progressivetransmission kinematicsmakes it the most efficient
version yet. Its lowweight reduces unsprung mass,andits compact
dimensions are essential to the bikes slender profile.

Incombination with the full fairing,the compactscreen of the
BMW K 1200 Soffers class-leading protection from the elements.
The clever design of the leading edge routes the air flowaroundthe
rider,allowing comfortable riding even at high speeds. The modular
construction of the fairing makes servicing easy,while the front mud-
guardhasbeen testedin windtunnels to ensure optimum airflow
to the radiator,andasaresult air inlets in the fairing are not required.

Up until now,different surfaces,varying loadsandindividualriding
styles all mademanual suspension adjustment atrickybusiness.
Achieving optimum balance in the preloading of springs andsus-
pension requires agreatdealofexperienceandjudgment. The
BMW K 1200 Sis the first motorcycle in the worldto doaway
with manual suspension tuning,thanks to the innovativeElectronic
Suspension Adjustment (ESA)system*.The settings selectedare
displayedon the Info Flatscreen.
Load settings.
When stationaryandwith the engine running,the rider canadjust
suspension preload to the level of load (rider only,rider with lug-
gage or rider with passenger andluggage) atthetouchofabutton.
Riding style settings.
ESAmakes it possible for riders to adjust the chassis while riding,
to suit their own personalriding style androad conditions. Atthe
touchofabutton,riders are able to choose between three settings
(Normal,Comfort andSport) for front andrear suspension. The
damper settings reboundat the front,reboundandcompression
attherearare then adjustedautomatically.

With its easyoperation andoptimisedchassis tuning,ESAmakes

Drive
The BMW Motorrad braking system on the BMW K 1200 S
hasbeen speciallyadaptedto the demandsofasportsbike. Its
defining characteristicsare lowweight,durabilityandoutstanding
performance.
The stopping power is producedbytwo320-mm-diameter disc
brakes. The BMW K 1200 Sis fittedasstandardwith the partially
integralversion of the new-generation BMW Motorrad IntegralABS*
system,whichweighs just 2.2 kilograms. This optimises the distribu-
tion of braking forcetofrontandrearwheels when the handlebarlever
is pulled.The foot brake,on the other hand, acts onlyon the rearwheel.
The system prevents rear-wheel lift,ensuring both wheels stayin
contactwith the ground.Italso offers riders precise control over brak-
ing,andensures the braking forceisappropriate for the current load.
No more maintenance is requiredthan on motorcycles without ABS.
The BMW Motorrad Paralever,with its raisedtorque reactor strut,
is notable for its lightweight construction andsporting design.
Alower unsprung mass results in less weight,making the rear sus-
pension extremelysensitiveandresponsive.
Incorporatedinto the Paralever,the lightweight BMW Motorrad shaft
drive is the keyto the responsiveness andsmooth power deliveryof
the BMW K 1200 S.Itisextremelydurable,andrequires verylittle
maintenance.

The designers of the BMW K 1200 Shaveunderstoodthat riders
come in all shapes andsizes. Thatiswhytheydecidedto offer a
choiceoftwoseat heights an820-mm standardversion (with a
rider step length of 1,810mm) andan optional790-mm lowversion
(with arider step length of 1,750mm).
Everyrider knowsthatthewider the seat,especiallytowards the
front,the harder it is to reach the ³oor with your feet whatever the
seat height. The seatoftheBMW K 1200 Shasbeen optimisedin
terms of step length,so it is markedlyslimmer towards the front,
giving more freedom of movement for sports-style riding,while
broader attherear,for more comfort.
The seating position of the BMW K 1200 Ssuits large andsmall
riders alike. The ergonomictriangle formedbythe footrest,seatand
