6.4. The Procedure of Connecting Pipes
1) Connect the indoor unit first, and then connect the outdoor unit.
a. The pipe bend should be handled carefully, without damaging the pipe and
insulation layer. Ensure once you have installed the indoor unit, cover with
plastic to stop dirt and dust collecting inside the unit. Failure to do so will
cause damage to the unit.
b. Before tightening up the flare nut, apply refrigerant oil at the outer surface of
the pipe. Screw up the nut for 3~4 circles beforehand (see Fig.6-1).
c. Ensure when connecting and disconnecting pipe work, use two spanners
simultaneously.
d. Ensure that you don’t over tighten the flare nut. This will deform the
connection pipe on the indoor unit and cause leaks.
2) Ensure when making flare you tape/cover the inlet of the indoor unit, to
ensure no impurities go inside the unit.
3) After connecting all the pipe work, ensure you flush the system through with
nitrogen and pressure test according to outdoor installation manual.
i.The bend angle shall not exceed 90°. (See Fig.6-2)
ii. Where possible use long radius bends to help flow of refrigerant.
iii. Do not bend the pipe more than three times.
i. When bending the pipe, measure the pipe length required, mark bend
position and bend with benders.
ii. Longer radius elbows are recommended to help flow of refrigerant.
iii. Always use pipe benders when bending pipe.
2. Fixing pipe work
1) Ensure you use appropriate brackets for supporting pipe work.
2) Ensure the liquid pipe and the suction pipe feeding one unit are bound
together, with the correct cable.
3) When installing pipe work through walls, you need to protect pipe work with
large plastic pipe work.
