Bresser AR102S f/4.5 Refractor Kit
Assembly & Instructions
Now that the telescope is fully assembled and ready to be used it’s recommended to first get acquainted with
it’s features and how it functions during the day.
Take the telescope and mount outside, weather permitting of course and place
it on a firm surface (Ground, Driveway, Deck etc.) and adjust the legs so the
tripod head/mount is level or close to being level. Next, remove the front lens
cover and place it in your pocket or some other place where it won’t get dirty
or pick up things that will get onto the lens. Also, at this point remember not
to point it at the Sun or close to it. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! When
children are present make sure they follow these rules as well.
Now that you’re ready to use the telescope take a few seconds to get the feel
of the mount by moving the telescope from side to side and up and down. By
getting a feel for the mount it will help you better in pointing the telescope to
the object you want to view. Now, point the telescope toward an object that is far away that you can see with
your eyes. A tall building, water tower, mountain, large sign etc. will make a good object for you to start with.
Once you have pointed at the object look into the eyepiece and see if it’s there. At this point it doesn’t need to
be centered. On the focuser there are two knobs, use the one which is more comfortable for you and turn the
knob so the eyepiece moves up or down. As you do this look into the eyepiece and turn the knob until the
object comes into a sharp focus. Once it’s in sharp focus move the mount and center the object. Everyone’s
eyes are not the same so, if you’re letting other individuals use the telescope too, let them know that they
should refocus if it’s not sharp for them. As you continue to use the telescope and look at different objects
you’ll notice that the closer the object is the further out the focuser will have to move to come into focus and
vice versa for objects that are farther away.
When using the telescope at night it’s always good to start will the Moon. It’s easy to see and large enough to
find easily. Also, it has a wealth of interesting features to look at. As you gain more experience using the tele-
scope at night and want to observe more objects acquiring a good star chart or home planetarium software that
you can print star charts from will enhance your viewing pleasure.
Tip - When using the telescope at night take it outside 15 to 30 minutes before you want to observe. This will
allow the instrument to acclimate to the outside temperature and perform better.
