Before You Use This Product
The use of surveillance devices may be prohibited by law in your country. The NR-1604
is not only a high-performance web-ready NVR but also can be part of a flexible
surveillance system. It is the user’s responsibility to ensure that the operation of such
devices is legal before installing this unit for its intended use.
It is important to first verify that all contents received are complete according to the list in
the "Package Contents" chapter. Take notice of the warnings in “Quick installation guide”
before the Network Camera is installed, then carefully read and follow the instructions in
the “Installation” chapter to avoid damages due to faulty assembly and installation.



Network Video Recorder Overview
The Brickcom NR-1604 is an ARM9-based Stand-alone NVR (Network Video
Recorder). Featured with embedded Linux operating system, which is designed for
remote monitoring, live viewing, recording, and multi-channel playback of pictures
from IP cameras inside a network surveillance system,
The Brickcom NR-1604 is equipped with a Gigabit Ethernet port and houses 2
SATA hard disks (Max Capacity: 2TB) for long-term recording. The support of
external UPS systems ensures uninterrupted recording in case of power failure. The
pictures from up to 16 network cameras can be recorded simultaneously over the
network and be played back on a PC from a remote site. Support of Mega-pixel
cameras and H.264 compression provides high-quality image recording and saves
more bandwidth.
Using Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or above in combination with a user-friendly
interface makes local or remote management much easier and more convenient. No
need to install other software on the PC.
A max of 4 PCs is allowed to access the device concurrently to perform the settings
and operations. Moreover its ability to automatically search and find the available
cameras on the network can greatly reduce the efforts when expanding the system,
which enables more scalability. The above advantages make the NVR-1604 an
economic solution for building a robust network surveillance system for SMB and
SOHO users.


The NR-1604 is designed for use within a surveillance system, and performs
recordings and playbacks pictures from network cameras in the system. It is a
recording device using a hard disk drive to record camera pictures instead of using
video tapes so that pictures recorded by repeated overwriting will not experience
deterioration of the recorded picture quality. Up to 16 cameras can be connected via
a network and it is possible to record their camera pictures. It is possible to perform
the settings or operate the NVR using a web browser installed on a PC connected
to a network, or remote controller. Recorded video can be played back from remote
site by a PC. Up to 4 PCs (web browsers) can access this unit concurrently and it is
possible to perform the settings and operate this unit. NR-1604, its ability to
automatically search and find the available cameras on the network can greatly
reduce the user effort when expanding the system.


System Requirements
The following are minimum system requirements for the system to operate NR-1604:

(We highly recommend to work above the 1024 x 768 resolution to get the full
experience of the software)
zMake sure your display DPI setting is set to default at 96DPI
zTo set DPI value, right-click on desktop, choose “Settings” tab >>
“Advanced” >> “General”
CD-ROM Drive:
It is necessary to read the operating instructions in the provided CD-ROM.
Adobe Reader:
It is necessary to read the operating instructions in the provided CD-ROM.
zAudio function will not be working if a sound card is uninstalled on PC.
zAudio may be interrupted depending on the network environment.


Install Hard Disk
Start by removing the screws on the side
Push the top housing forward
Then lift it up


Remove the hard drive cover plate













 
Pull out the hard drive tray holder






















Place the hard drive on the tray and push it inward to secure the hard drive













Connect the SATA cable to the hard drive






















Put the hard drive tray cover plate back













Place the top housing back and secure it with the bottom housing



















Connect to the NR-1604
There are various ways you can connect to the NR-1604 and below are the
suggested methods for different network setup:
• The NR-1604 is placed in a network with a DHCP server: Connect to the
NR-1604 by using “Setup Wizard” Utility.
• The NR-1604 is placed in a network without DHCP server (or you are
connecting to it directly): Access NR-1604 with its default IP.
Use Setup Wizard Utility
If the NR-1604 is placed in a corporate network or a local area network where a
DHCP server is already presented, install the “Setup Wizard” utility on the CD from a
computer that is on the same network and locate the NR-1604 with its IP address
that is assigned by the top-level DHCP server.


To begin, launch the “Setup Wizard” utility from the CD and proceed with the
installation:


Once the installation is completed, check the “Launch the Search AP” option and
click “Finish”:
The search should start automatically and its status should be displayed:
The NR-1604 should be located and its IP address should be displayed: Double click
on it and the program should automatically access the
NR-1604’s web administration page from your default browser.

You may change NR-1604’s IP address by click on the button highlighted below.

You will be prompted for the NR-1604’s login information before proceeding to change
device’s IP address.
You may click on the button highlighted below to perform search again. Or double-
click on any of the search results to access NR-1604’s web administration page.

You should be prompted for the NR-1604’s username and password. Enter its
default username “admin” and password “admin” and then click”OK” to enter the
system.

Access NR-1604 with its default IP address
The NR-1604 comes with a preconfigured static IP “192.168.101.50”. However, it is
only used when there is no DHCP server presented in the network. The NR-1604 will
turn on its DHCP server function and act as the DHCP server in the network. To
connect to the NR-1604, use a PC that is on the same network over a switch or hub,
or connect the PC directly to the NR-1604 using a crossover CAT5 Ethernet cable.
The PC that is connected directly to the NR-1604 (or within the same local area
network) should receive an IP from it. Simply access the NR-1604 from your web
browser with its IP address.
Again, you should be prompted for the username and password. Enter its default
username “admin” and password “admin” and then click”OK” to enter the system.


