Important Safety Information
Read this User Manual in Entirety Before Use
This User Manual contains important safety,and operation information for
the BrightDrop Trace.
It is not intended as a comprehensive use, service, repair, or maintenance
manual, or as a substitute for operator training.
Keep this manual for future reference. It should accompany the device if it
is ever transferred or sold

Safety Messages
To prevent property damage, serious injury,or death:
DO NOT operate the Trace unless you are trained and authorized by your employer.
Read all safety warnings and instructions before using the Trace. DO NOTremove any labels from the
Trace.
Do not operate when you are tired, after consuming alcohol, or when taking medication that causes
drowsiness.
DO NOT carry passengers on or in the Trace.
When driving, braking, or slowing, ensure that you maintain a firm grip on the handlebar untilthe
trace comes to a complete stop
The Trace should be loaded, transported, and used in accordance with approved BrightDrop products
and services. Any other loading, transport, or use of the Trace is at your own risk and liability.
Never modify your Trace in any way. Do notsand, drill, file,or remove parts from your Trace. Do not
install incompatible components or hardware.
PINCH POINTHazard. Keep fingers, hair, clothing (including shoelaces), jewelry, and other objects
away from wheels and other moving components.
Please follow Federal Motor Carrier SafetyAdministration (FMSCA) guidance for cargo securement
and refer to relevant industry associations(e.g.,Web Sling & Tie Down Association).
Traces should be secured with a restraining system capable of handling at least 2,415kg (5,325 lb) of
peak force. If using ratchet straps, ensure they can withstand at least 2,415 kg (5,325 lb) break
strength or 805 kg (1,775 lb) Working Load Limit (WLL) individuallyor in combination. The U.S.
Department of Transportation (DOT)and Web Sling Association require tie-down manufacturers to
attach a tag to the strap with the safeWLL. For guidance follow DOT guidelines for cargo securement
and refer to relevant industry associations(e.g.,Web Sling & Tie Down Association).
When transporting aTrace:
oEngage the caster wheel locks.

oSecure the Trace with a secondaryretention system inaccordance withFMCSA Cargo
Securement Rules.
Intended Use
The Trace is a TYPE E industrial device. It isan electrically powered unit that has minimumacceptable
safeguards against inherentfire and electric shock hazards.
The intended use of the Trace is to be operated byan adult (age 18 and up) for transportation ofgoods in
an occupational setting. Only use on paved or finished surfaces and in areas permitted bylaw (not on
roadways). Any other use of the Trace is prohibited andmay result in SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH.
Not following the instructions and warnings either in this manual or on the Traceitself could result in
property damage, serious injury,or death.
Improper servicing or the use of replacementparts notprovided by the manufacturer —including the
unauthorized modifications, and/or alterations to the Trace beyond the manufacturer’s guidelines—
automatically voids the Limited Warranty and maymake the product unsafe for use.In no such event will
the manufacturer be liable for any direct, indirect, punitive,incidental, or special damages to property or
persons, including death, arising out of the use or misuse of the Trace.

Safety Alert Symbol. It is to alert you to potential personal injury hazards. Obey all safety
messages that follow this symbol to avoid possible serious injury or death.
ELECTRIC SHOCK Hazard.
FIRE Hazard.
TIP OVER Hazard.
ALWAYS wear safety shoes when operating the Trace. The operator must avoid their feet
and those of anybystanders when operating the Trace.
Read and follow the warnings and instructions in this manual.
Training
DO NOT operate the Trace unless you are trained and authorized by your employer. Ask your supervisor
or BrightDrop Contact Center at 888-987-4377 if thereis anything unclear or if you have concerns about
the operation of the Trace.
The Trace was designed to work safely and efficientlywith the operator, but as the employer, you have
the primary responsibility for the well-being of your employees. Operator training and the responsibility
for providing a safe workplace is required bythe Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA). Both OSHA
and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) provide operating, maintenance, and safety
instructions contained in the following publications:
•29 CFR 1910.178: "OSHA Safetyand Health Standards (29CFR 1910)," "Subpart N-Materials
Handling and Storage," Section 1910.178"Powered Industrial Truck." Available from osha.gov.
•ANSI/ITSDF B56.1: "Safety Standard for Low Lift and HighLift Trucks" (Safety Code or Powered
Industrial Trucks). Published by: Industrial Truck Standards Development Foundation, 1750K
Street NW, Suite 460, Washington DC 20009.
The ANSI Standard B56.1requires operator qualification prior to selection based on visual, auditory,
physical, and mental abilityrelative tothe specific requirements of the employer. Similarly,the training
required by OSHA and ANSI must be tailored to the workplace. Unique operations can present hazards
even to experienced operators.

Pre-Operation Safety Check
The Trace must be inspected every shift. Do not operate a Trace that needs repairs or tryto fix it
yourself. Report all problems toyour employer and tagthe Trace as “Outof Service.”
1. Walk around the Trace and look for signs of damage orslip hazards.
2. Check for damage to electrical cablesand connectors.
3. Check for loose or missing items, nuts, bolts,fasteners, and rivets.
4. Power on and check the buzzer.
5. Inspect allfour (4) wheels and check that the caster wheel brake locks are functional.
6. Check that the door locks are operating properly. Check that the doors open and close freely<
7. Inspect the interior. Check that the shelves are secure (if installed).
8. Check that the batteries are fullyor appropriately charged for the anticipated use.
9. At the beginning of each shift, before operation, poweron and test for correct brake function.
Press the brake release button, ensure the Trace moves. Disengage the brake release and ensure
the Trace stops.
When Loading
Maximum Trace load is 90 kg (200 lb).
Maximum load for each shelf is 45 kg (100 lb).
Bottom floor panel maximum load is 90kg (200 lb) if no shelving present.
•ALWAYS place heavier items on the floor panel or lowest available shelf toprevent tipping and to
keep the center of gravity as low as possible.
•ALWAYS close and lock doors before moving the Trace.
•DO NOT propel the Trace while items are ontop.
During Use
•Learn and follow your employer's safety rules for operation, traffic, and speed. Look where the Trace
is going to avoid people,obstructions, and drop-offs. Check clearances in all directions. Travel in
reverse (pull cargo) if the Trace blocks a forward view.
•When travelling up or down ramps or sloped areas, the operator should always be on the uphill side
of the Trace and only travel straight up or down an inclined surface. Keep a safe distance from
platform and ramp edges.
•DO NOT turn,P (Park) or load/unload the Trace on slopes.
•The Trace can tip over even when empty. Slow down when turning and push/pull smoothly and
slowly. If it does start to tip, move toa safe location away from the Trace and sound the buzzer or
shout to alert pedestrians in the area.
•AVOID collisions. Should pedestrians or other objects come into the path of the Trace, steer to avoid
them. Sound buzzer to alert people who maynot be looking at you.

•Stop the Trace completely and sound the buzzer at corners or at stop signs, when approaching
intersections or crosswalks, when exiting an aisle,or other locations where the vision is limited or
obstructed. Always proceed with caution. Use traffic mirrors, if available.
•TO STOP– release the throttleand confirm the Trace has stopped.
•ONLY park in authorized places. Turn the Trace OFF, set caster wheel locks, and ensure doors are
locked.
•DO NOTcarry riders on topor inside of the Trace.
•ONLY travel on paved or smooth level surfaces free of hazards. DO NOTuse on gravel,dirt, grass,
bumps, potholes, or other uneven terrain to prevent damage to the Trace ortipping over.
•ONLY operate in environments with adequate ambient light. Operating outside at night or in areas
with lowlight comes with more risks due to decreased visibility. Others may have difficultyseeing you
and youmay not see obstacles in you path.
•DO NOTmaneuver the Trace through standing water, heavy rain, or in areas with other obstacles. Be
aware of areas withuneven floors, stairs, or other obstacles. DO NOT(P) Park the Trace in standing
water.
•When pushing/pulling the Trace up/down an inclined grade/ramp (under heavy load conditions up to
90kg (200 lb) and/or steep inclines greater than 5degrees/8.7% grade) be aware a loss of motorized
assist may occur when either:
oThe electric wheel motor thermal or overcurrent protections activate
OR
oThere is a low or a depletedbattery pack state of charge.
The operator must push/pull/operate the Trace manually should either of these conditions occur.
•ALWAYS remove the Trace from service if itfalls from an elevated position or tips over. Have the
Trace serviced and inspected per the service manual before returning to service.
•(P) PARK and TAG OUTthe Trace if you experience any problemswhile you are working. Stop work
and tell your supervisor. Make sure to tag the Trace asout of service so others will not be injuredby
trying to use it. If any issues are found during the Pre-Operation Safety Check, get the issue fixed
before starting work or tag it outand use another Trace.
•BE AWARE that objects may not be easily seen in frontof the Trace when driving or pushing the Trace
in front of you.
On-Product Labels
The Trace is equipped with nine (9) individual vinyl labels and one (1) aluminum serial plate. The operator
should understand and familiarize themselves withthese labels before use.

Battery Pack Safety
Battery Pack Safety Messages
Risk of Fire and Electric Shock – No User Serviceable Parts
To prevent serious injury ordeath:
•ONLY use original Trace approved lithium-ion battery packs. The battery pack voltage must match the
battery charger voltage. DO NOT use the battery pack or charger for any use otherthan its intended
purpose.
•ONLY use the battery charger provided with the Trace or a BrightDrop approved replacement.
•Turn the Trace OFF before servicing the battery.
•DO NOT expose the battery pack or charger to rain or any liquids. The risk of electric shockand the
potential for fire are increased should the charger or battery pack be exposed to water or submerged
in liquid of any kind.
•DO NOT charge the Trace outdoors or in wet environments.
•DO NOT charge the Trace when temperaturesare below 32 oF (0oC) or higher than 100oF (38 oC). Do
not charge indirect sunlight.
•ALWAYS inspect the battery charger and cordsprior to each use. If dropped or damaged, DO NOT use
and discard immediately.
•DO NOT use a dropped, crushed, or dented battery pack. Contact [e-mail] to
order a replacement batterypack.
•The battery pack may emitsmoke or gases if itbecomes damaged or is used incorrectly. Ensure the
Trace is in a well-ventilated area.Respiratory tract irritation may occur, and users should seek medical
attention if they experience any adverse effects. Do not allow any others to approach the Trace. For
assistance, please contact [e-mail].
•Battery leakage mayoccur under extreme usage or temperature conditions. Avoid contact with skin
and eyes. Batteryliquid is caustic and couldcause chemical burns. If battery liquid comes incontact
with skin, quicklywash with soap and water. If the liquid contacts your eyes, immediately flush eyes
with water for several minutes and seek medical attention.
•Battery charging times may increase with battery age and usage.
•Hold the charger by the plug and not the cable when plugging and unplugging from the wall.
•Do not puncture or crush the battery pack. Do not impact the battery pack or modify it in any way.
Do not use the battery pack if itshows visible damage. Danger of fire or explosion.
•Do not place the charger near flammable materials. There is a riskof fire due to the heatgenerated
during charging.
•Keep the battery pack andcharger away from children.
•To help prevent damage to the battery pack do not let the State of Charge fall to 0%, best practice is
to maintain above 10%, or one (1) bar on the handlebar user interface.
•Failure to follow these guidelines could void battery warranty.

Battery Pack Charging
See the Battery Pack Safety section for more information.
NOTE: If the batterypack charger is inside the Trace, you mustopen the doors manually to access it.

First Time Use – Battery Connection
The Trace battery willarrive disconnected. Before charging, the battery must be connected. Please ensure
caster wheels brakes are engaged to connect the battery for first time use or any battery replacement.
Open the battery compartment and connect the battery.
1. Using a flat-head screwdriver, loosen the battery door fastener by a quarter-turn counterclockwise.
Note: The battery access door is attached via a tether and fastener.

2. After removing the battery access panel, connect the battery to the internal connector.

3. Reinstall the battery access panel by inserting the tab into the slot at the bottom and reconnecting the
quarter-turnbattery door fastener.

Battery Charging
The battery in the Trace unitcan be chargedin two different ways:
Onboard the Traceand connected to the system (Referred to as Onboard Charging)
Removed from the Trace and disconnected (Referred to as Offboard Charging)
For each method, a differentcable will be used to connect the charger.
To Charge the Trace Battery:
1. Inspect the Trace battery pack charger.
ELECTRIC SHOCK Hazard. DO NOT charge battery packif the housing or cords show
any sign of damage.

2. Ensure the area around the Trace is dry. It isnot necessary to remove the battery pack fromthe
Trace for charging.
•DO NOT charge outdoors.
•DO NOT operate thecharger on an easily ignited surface (e.g., paper, textiles, etc.) or
in a flammable environment. Risk of fire related to charger temperature increases
during the charging process.
3. Before handling the battery charger, discharge static electricityby touching the top side of your
hand to any metal object notisolated from the ground (other than the Trace).
4. Plug the charger intoa 110V-rated electrical outlet.
Before charging, inspect the outlet for any damage andensure that the outlet is in good working
condition and is well grounded. It is notrecommended touse extension cords, power strips, or
other similar devices.
