How to install your new smoke alarm
Installing the Brooks smoke detector, flashing strobe light and vibration pad (EiB650iRF and
EiB170RFAU).
Smoke detector
1. Decide where to put the smoke detector
It is important to know that enough smoke has to enter the smoke detector for it to alert
you of a fire. Your smoke detector works best when it is no further than 7.5 metres from
these areas and where air circulates well, away from corners and recesses. This is because
you cannot smell smoke from a fire when you are sleeping.
In Queensland, smoke alarms must be installed on each storey:
a. in each bedroom; and
b. in hallways which connect bedrooms and the rest of the dwelling; or if there is no
hallway, between the bedrooms and other parts of the storey;
If there are no bedrooms on a storey at least one smoke alarm must be installed in the most
likely path of travel to exit the dwelling.
2. Remove the base plate by twisting it in an anti-clockwise direction.
3. Hold the base plate against the ceiling and mark where you need to drill the holes.
4. Drill two holes.
5. Then use the two screws included to attach the base plate to your ceiling.
Please refer to current state legislation to obtain mandatory smoke alarm requirements.
Flashing strobe light and vibration pad
1. Place the flashing strobe light on the bedside table, and the vibration pad under the
pillow on the bed.
2. Plug the flashing strobe light (with the connected vibration pad) into a power point
(normally at the bedside table). You will see a green light on flashing strobe light.
Testing
1. Attach the smoke alarm to the base.
2. Twist the smoke alarm onto the base in a clockwise direction to activate the alarm. It
will automatically and wirelessly connect with the flashing strobe light and vibration
pad.
3. Press the “test” button on your flashing strobe light. It will flash and the vibrating
pad will vibrate.
