INTRODUCTION

CD-ROM Precautions
• Do not scratch the CD-ROM.
• Do not subject the CD-ROM to extremely high or extremely low temperatures.
• Do not put heavy objects on the CD-ROM or apply force to the CD-ROM.
• The software contained on the CD-ROM is meant for use with your purchased machine only.
It may be installed on multiple personal computers for use at an office, etc.
• Do not connect the USB cable to the personal computer until the software has been
installed and you are instructed to connect.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Before installation, check that your system cofiguration meets the following requirements.
for Windows
P-touch Editor Makes it easy for anyone to create a wide variety of custom
labels in complex layout by using fonts, templates, and clip art.
P-touch Quick Editor Lets you design a simple label layout quickly and easily.
Printer Driver Lets you print labels from the connected P-touch when using
P-touch Editor / Quick Editor on your personal computer.
Operating system Microsoft®Windows®98SE / Me / 2000 Professional / XP
CPU 32 bit Pentium compatible (using 32 bit operating system)
Memory Windows®98SE, Me: 64MB or more
Windows®2000 Pro, XP: 128MB or more
Hard disk free space 70MB or more
Interface USB Port (USB Specification 1.1 or 2.0 protocol)
Monitor SVGA High Color graphics support or higher

INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE
1. Start your personal computer. (If running Windows®2000 Pro, XP Pro or XP Home,
make sure you are logged on as a user with administrator rights.)
2. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. The P-touch Setup Screen will appear.
3. Select the desired language and the type of setup
you prefer.
Standard: All features will be installed (default).
Custom:
You can specify which features to install.
Recommended for advanced users.
4. Read the license agreement carefully. If you agree with the terms and conditions of the
license agreement, click [Yes] to continue the installation.
5. Type in the User Name and Company Name,
and then click [Next]. (Select whether you wish to
limit the software use to all users (default) or to
the currently logged on user.)
6. Confirm the destination to install the software,
and then click [Next].
Note : • Do not connect the USB cable to your personal computer before installing the software.
•For PT-2710 user (USA), please follow the same procedure as PT-2700.
Note : If the P-touch Setup Screen does not appear, from Windows Explorer double-click
the My Computer icon, and then double-click the PT-2700 icon. If you wish to
cancel installation in the middle of the process, click [Exit].

7. Check on/off which shortcuts you wish to add, and then click [Next].
8. Review the settings, and then click [Next]. (To change the settings, click [Back] to go
back to the appropriate windows and correct.)
9. Select the Microsoft®Office application(s) you
would like to use the Add-In functions with, and
click [Next].
(The Add-In function will let you create labels
directly from your Microsoft®Office applications.)
10.The selected features (P-touch Editor and P-touch Quick Editor for Standard setup) will
be installed automatically.
11.When prompted, connect your P-touch to the personal computer by using the USB
cable, and then turn on the P-touch.
12.The Printer Driver will be installed automatically.
13.Select "Yes" (default) to register your P-touch online, and then click [Next]. If you have
selected to register, the default Internet browser will be launched.
14.Click [Finish] to complete the installation. (Restart your personal computer if you are
instructed to do so.)
Note : If you wish to modify or change the
destination, click [Browse] to choose the
installation path.

USING THE P-TOUCH EDITOR / QUICK EDITOR

Using Help
Help gives you detailed instructions for creating labels with your P-touch Software.
On P-touch Editor:
• To view Help, select “P-touch Editor Help” in the help menu of the P-touch Editor window
and click on the topic you wish to view.
• To print Help from a standard printer, select the topic you wish to print by clicking the heading
in the contents and click on the Print button on the toolbar.
On P-touch Quick Editor:
• To view Help, right click on the task bar of P-touch Quick Editor window and select “Help”,
and then click on the topic you wish to view. To print Help from a standard printer, select the
topic you wish to print by clicking the heading in “contents”, and click on the Print button.
• When the dialog box appears, select the information you wish to print and click [OK].
• Select the printer to print the Help files, and click [Print].
UNINSTALLING THE P-TOUCH EDITOR / QUICK EDITOR
1. Start ( →Settings) →Control Panel →Add or Remove Programs →
Brother P-touch Editor 4.2 (Brother P-touch Quick Editor 2.0) →
Change/Remove (Add/Remove...)
2. Select “Remove” to uninstall the software, and then click [Next].
3. Follow the instructions that appear on the dialog box to complete.
UNINSTALLING / REPLACING THE PRINTER DRIVER
1. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. (If the installation window automatically
appears, click [Cancel].)
2. From My Computer, right click on the CD-ROM drive to open.
3. Double click “d_setup.exe”. (If a dialog box appears asking for a desired language,
select the language you wish for instructions and click [OK].)
4. Select whether to delete or to replace the printer driver, and then click [Next].
5. Follow the instructions that appear on the dialog box to complete.

INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE
P-touch Editor
1. Start up Macintosh®and insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. The PT-2700
screen is displayed.
2. Double click [P-touch Editor 3.2 Installer] inside the [P-touch Editor 3.2] folder.
3. Check the contents and click [Next] until the [Choose Product Components] screen
appears.
4. Check the programs you wish to install and click
[Next].
5. Select the location to create the icon for the alias,
and click [Next].
6. Click [Install]. The installation will begin. When the installation is complete, the
message "The software was successfully installed" is displayed.
7. After the installation is complete, click [Done].
P-touch Quick Editor
1. Double click [Quick Editor Installer] inside the [P-touch Quick Editor] folder.
2. Click [OK] until the Choose Alias Folder screen appears.
3. Select the location to create the icon for the alias, and click [Next].
Note : • Do not connect the USB cable to your personal computer until the installation of P-
touch Editor, P-touch Quick Editor and Printer Driver is complete.
•Make sure you are logged on as a user with administrator rights.
•For PT-2710 user (USA), please follow the same procedure as PT-2700.
Note : If the PT-2700 screen does not appear, double click the PT-2700 (CD-ROM) icon.
If you wish to cancel the installation in the middle of the process, click [Exit].
Note : “In the Dock" is only available for OS
10.1. If you select this option while
running other versions of OS X, no icon
will be added and the icons displayed in
the dock may reset to those available
when the OS was first installed.

4. Click [Install]. The installation will begin. When the installation is complete, the
message "The software was successfully installed" is displayed.
5. After the installation is complete, click [Done].
Printer Driver
1. Double click [PT-2700 Driver.pkg].
2. Read the contents and click [Continue] until the Software License Agreement screen
is displayed.
3. Read the content and select "English", and then
click [Continue].
4. License Agreement screen is displayed. Click [Agree] if you agree to install.
5. Select the drive where you wish to install the
driver, and click [Continue]. (Select the drive
where the Mac OS®X is installed.)
6. Click [Install].
7. Input "Name" and "Password" of administrator
and click [OK].
8. Click [Continue Installation].
9. When the message "The software was successfully installed" is displayed, click
[Restart]. Your Macintosh®will reboot to complete the printer driver installation.
Note : "In the Dock" is only available for OS 10.1. If you select this option while running
other versions of OS X, no icon will be added and the icons displayed in the dock
may reset to those available when the OS was first installed.

CONNECTING TO YOUR Macintosh®
When the installation of P-touch Editor, P-touch Quick Editor and Printer Driver is completed,
connect your P-touch labeler to Macintosh®by using the USB cable.
After connecting the P-touch labeler to your Macintosh
®
, turn on the P-touch labeler and double
click the drive where Mac OS
®
X is installed, and click Applications → Utilities → Printer Setup
Utility (Print Center). The Printer List Screen is displayed. Click
[Add] (Add Printer). Click [USB] ,
"PT-2700", and
[Add] . Check that "PT-2700" appears in the list, and close the Printer List Screen.
USING HELP
Help gives you detailed instructions for creating labels with your P-touch software.
On P-touch Editor:
• To view Help, double click the Applications folder in the drive and double click P-touch Editor
3.2 folder →Help →MAIN.HTM
• To view the users guide, double click the Applications folder in the drive (or insert the CD-
ROM into the CD-ROM drive and display the PT-2700 screen) and double click P-touch Editor
3.2 folder →User's Guide folder →main.htm.
On P-touch Quick Editor:
• On the Quick Editor screen, point the cursor to "Help" on the taskbar and click on "P-touch
Quick Editor Help."
UNINSTALLING THE P-TOUCH EDITOR / QUICK EDITOR
P-touch Editor:
• Double click on the Applications folder, and then double click P-touch Editor3.2 →Uninstall
P-touch Editor →Uninstall P-touch Editor.
• Delete files "P-touch Editor 3.2 Prefs" and "P-touch Editor 3.2.plist" in the following location:
Macintosh HD →Users →usemame →Library →Preferences.
P-touch Quick Editor:
• Double click on the Applications folder, and then double click P-touch Quick
Editor →Uninstall Quick Editor →Uninstall Quick Editor.
• Delete file "P-touch Quick Editor Prefs" in the following location:
Macintosh HD →Users →usemame →Library →Preferences.
Note : If you wish to delete the program of Printer Driver, delete files"
PT2700PDE.plugin" and "PT2700PM.plugin" in the following location:
Macintosh HD →Library →Printers →Brother.
Connect to P-touch
USB port. Connect to Macintosh® USB port.

Précautions concernant le CD-ROM
• Ne rayez pas le CD-ROM.
• N'exposez pas le CD-ROM à des températures extrêmement hautes ou basses.
• Ne placez pas d'objets lourds sur le CD-ROM et n'exercez pas de pression dessus.
• Le logiciel que contient le CD-ROM est destiné à être utilisé exclusivement avec la machine
que vous avez achetée.
