embroidery machines.
This Installation Guide gives you some basic information about
Pacesetter BES Lettering (such as the minimum systems
requirements) and also instructions on how to install and
activate the program.

Pacesetter BES Lettering:
System Requirements
Recommended System Requirements:
• Genuine Intel Pentium IV, 2GHz PC computer (or higher)
with a CD-ROM drive
• Monitor 1024x768 video resolution with 16-bit color display
(or higher)
• Microsoft® Windows® XP/Vista operating system
• 1 gigabyte of RAM
• Minimum 1 gigabyte hard disk drive space available
• Mouse

Installing Pacesetter BES
Lettering
To install Pacesetter BES Lettering:
1Insert the Pacesetter BES Lettering CD-ROM into the
computer’s CD drive.
2Wait for the AutoRun Screen.
3Click on “Install Pacesetter BES Lettering.”
You see the InstallShield introductory screen.
4Click Next to proceed with the installation.
You see the License Agreement dialog.
5Check the radio button next to “I accept the terms in the
license agreement” and click next to continue.
6Follow the instructions on each screen; the InstallShield
Wizard will then Install the software on your computer.
The Pacesetter BES Lettering icon will now appear on
your desktop.
You must be running Windows® XP/Vista to install
Pacesetter BES Lettering.

Activating Pacesetter BES
Lettering
In order to be use Pacesetter BES Lettering, you must first
activate the software. You can choose one of the following
options to obtain a license:
• Automatically, via an Internet connection.
• Providing an unlocking key given to you by phone or e-mail.
• By transferring a license from another computer.
Obtaining a License over the
Internet
The product serial number you received with the program can
be used to obtain a license. If you have an Internet connection,
you can have the program automatically obtain a license.
To obtain a license from the Internet:
1To open the Pacesetter BES Lettering License Activator
wizard, select one of the following procedures:
Double-click the Pacesetter BES Lettering icon on your
computer desktop.
From the Start menu, choose All Programs—
Pacesetter—Pacesetter BES Lettering.
You see a Pacesetter BES Lettering License Activator
wizard page.

2Select I received a serial number & I have an internet
connection on this machine and click Next.
You see another License Activator Wizard page.

3In the Serial Number field, enter the serial number you
received and click Next.
You see another License Activator Wizard page.
4To finish obtaining a license for Pacesetter BES Lettering,
click Finish.
Obtaining a License without Internet
Access
If you have no Internet connection on the computer on which
you are installing the Pacesetter BES Lettering software, you
will need to obtain a license activation by way of the Brother
web site (www.brother.com), using a computer that does have a
connection.
To obtain a license without Internet access:
1To open the License Activator wizard, select one of the
following procedures:
Double-click the Pacesetter BES Lettering icon on your
computer desktop.
From the Start menu, choose All Programs—
Pacesetter—Pacesetter BES Lettering.
You see the License Activator Wizard page.

2Select I received a serial number & I don’t have internet
connection on this machine and click Next.
You see another License Activator Wizard page.

3Enter your serial number in the box, and press Next.
You see another License Activator Wizard page.
4Record the highlighted information in the box.
5On a computer with internet access, go to www.brother.com
for information on how to obtain a site key.
6When you receive the Site key, click Next to continue the
installation.
You see another License Activator Wizard page.
