Guarantee
Your BT Decor 1500 is guaranteed for a period of 12
months from the date of purchase.
Subject to the terms listed below, the guarantee
will provide for the repair of, or at BT’s or its agent’s
discretion the option to replace the BT Decor 1500, or
any component thereof, which is identied as faulty or
below standard, or as a result of inferior workmanship
or materials. Products over 28 days old from the date
of purchase may be replaced with a refurbished or
repaired product.
The conditions of this guarantee are:
• The guarantee shall only apply to defects that
occur within the 12 month guarantee period.
• Proof of purchase is required.
• The equipment is returned to BT or its agent
as instructed.
This guarantee does not cover any faults or defects
caused by accidents, misuse, fair wear and tear,
neglect, tampering with the equipment, or any
attempt at adjustment or repair other than through
approved agents.
This guarantee does not affect your statutory rights.

Product disposal instructions
The symbol shown here and on the product
means that the product is classed as Electrical or
Electronic Equipment and should not be disposed with
other household or commercial waste at the end of its
working life.
The Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment
(WEEE) Directive (2002/96/EC) has been put in place
to recycle products using best available recovery and
recycling techniques to minimise the impact on the
environment, treat any hazardous substances and
avoid the increasing landll.
Product disposal instructions for residential users
When you have no further use for it, please remove
any batteries and dispose of them and the product as
per your local authority’s recycling processes. For more
information please contact your local authority or the
retailer where the product was purchased.

Business users should contact their suppliers and check
the terms and conditions of the purchase contract
and ensure that this product is not mixed with other
commercial waste for disposal.

Removing the base plinth
Your phone comes with the base plinth already attached. If you want to use your
phone on a at surface such as a table or desk then we advise you to leave the
plinth attached.
If you want to remove the base plinth, turn the plinth lock switch on the underside of
the phone to the ‘unlock’ position and unclip.

1 Set up
1. Plug in the mains power adaptor and plug the other end into the wall socket and
switch the power on. The message counter will ash as it initialises, once done
it will show
0
.
2. Plug the end of the telephone line cord into the wall socket.

You must plug the phone into the wall socket via an ADSL microlter if you are
using broadband on the same phone line.

Answering machine
Your answering machine is on and ready to record messages. The controls are shown
in the base diagram to your left. For detailed instructions of all the answering machine
features see the online user guide at www.bt.com/producthelp
Recording your own outgoing message
Press and hold
OGM
, after you hear the long beep speak your message clearly, close to
the phone. Only release
OGM
when you have nished recording. You will hear a long
beep and your message will be played back for checking.
Set the answer delay
This is the number of times your phone rings before the answer machine takes the call.
Settings are 2-9 rings, time saver (t) or answer only mode (o).

Playback messages
When new messages are received the message counter will show the number of
messages and the audible message alert will beep.
Messages will be played over the loudspeaker, or you can pick up the handset to listen
to them privately.

When all messages have been played back, the machine announces, “End of
messages”, and begins an 8 second countdown. At the end of the countdown, all
messages, except those selected for deletion are automatically saved.

Making calls
Lift handset and dial telephone number. To end the call, replace the handset.
Secrecy
Press and release during a call to activate secrecy mode. The button will illuminate
to indicate screcy is on.
Press and release again to return to your caller.

. The last number called will be dialled automatically.
Adjust the earpiece volume
With the handset at your ear, press the
Vol.

to increase or decrease the
earpiece volume.
Adjust the ringer volume
Turn the phone over and move the Ringer Vol. Switch to the volume you want:
Hi, Lo or Off. If the ringer is set to OFF, the call light will still ash to indicate
when someone is calling you.
Set the ringer melody
Turn the phone over and move the Ringer Switch to the position you want:
R1, R2 or R3.
Set the dial mode
Turn the phone over and move the Mode Switch to the position you want:
P, TE or TB.
Quickdial memory (up to 10 numbers)
If you are storing a long telephone number slowly, you may hear the message,
“Please replace the handset and try again”, through the handset. Ignore this message
and continue to enter the telephone number following the instructions below.
Store a quickdial memory number
Lift the handset and press

. The secrecy light will ash.
Using the keypad, enter a memory location number between 0 and 9 under which you
want to store the number.
Enter the telephone number (up to 18 digits) you want to store including the area code.

. You will hear a conrmation tone. Replace the handset.
You can keep a note of your quickdial memory numbers on the label provided on the
underside of the handset.
Dial a quickdial memory number
Lift the handset and wait for the dial tone. Press
Memory
.
Using the keypad, enter the memory location number between 0 and 9 under which the
number is stored.
The number is dialled automatically.
Delete stored quickdial numbers
Lift the handset and press
Store
. The secrecy light will ash.
Press the memory location number (0–9) you wish to delete.

Store
(without entering any digits). You will hear a conrmation tone.
Replace the handset.

Make sure both the mains power adaptor cable and
telephone line cord are plugged into the correct sockets.
No display Make sure the product is connected to the mains power
and switched on.
Using broadband on the same
phone line?
Make sure you plug the phone
into the wall socket via an ADSL
microlter (not supplied), otherwise
you may have problems with this
product and your broadband service.
Key tone not recognised when
following telephone menu
prompts, for example, during
telephone banking, i.e. when
‘pressing 8 to speak to an
advisor’ you hear the message
‘No option selected’.
Your phone may be in ‘pulse’ dial mode rather ‘tone’.
Please check your base and handset settings to ensure
‘tone’ is selected.
