1.0 GETTING STARTED WITH BUDDY
Congratulations on the purchase of your new Assistive Media Player with DAISY Reader –
Buddy! We heartily welcome you to the World of Buddy!!
Your Buddy is not a product, but a Software platform, allowing for an Ecosystem of
developers to add-on new and innovative applications. What we are currently delivering
is only the first set of applications. Please keep looking for Software updates!!
Buddy has been designed to address the infotainment (educational and entertainment)
needs of a user. Buddy with its current software release is an Assistive Media Player
featuring DAISY version 2.02 (Digital Accessible Information SYstem as defined by the
DAISY Consortium – www.daisy.org) Reader.
Figure 1: Buddy: Assistive media player
Buddy features innovations in Universal Design – thus creating an infotainment platform
that is “truly for all”. The Man Machine Interface design smartly uses the different senses
(Vision, Speech and Touch) to deliver a rich User Experience. Buddy leverages High
Fidelity (with SRS enhanced Audio) sound along with a High Quality TFT based User
Interface and Asymmetrical layout of raised Keys to allow an easy orientation of Buddy in
the correct direction.
The clever use of Voiced menus and High Quality TFT Colour display with a High Contrast
Colour Combination and Large Fonts (Font size further increases in selected items)
enables the product to be easily used by One and All. The Colour Contrast can be further
enhanced (at the cost of battery backup time) through the Settings.
1.1 GETTING TO KNOW YOUR BUDDY AND ITS ACCESSORIES
Buddy has LCD display and button on its front panel. Display is in the center and buttons
are on its right and left. Back panel hosts the battery covered with a flap. On the top and
