2Depress the bread ejection
lever to open the moving
bread guards.
3Place the loaded sandwich
holder into one of the
bread slots. Depress the
bread ejection lever. Set the
timer control to the
required setting.
WARNING: Do not
overfill the sandwich as the
heated contents may leak
into the toaster.
When cooked, remove the
holder and sandwich.
Points
• Stale bread toasts more
rapidly than fresh bread.
Therefore, the browning
control should be set at a
lower setting than usual.
• All sorts of bread can be
used as well as teacakes,
small rolls, etc. Slices, or
sandwiches should not,
however, be so thick as to
cause burning or jamming
within the bread slots.
• When toasting 2 or more
slices, it is recommended
they are of equal size and
freshness.
• In order to achieve uniform
browning, we recommend
you wait a minimum of 30
seconds between each
toasting.
• If the bread in your toaster
becomes jammed,
disconnect your toaster at
the socket, allow it to cool,
then remove the bread.
• When not in use, switch
your toaster off at the
mains and remove the plug
from the socket.
• Allow the toaster to cool
fully before putting away.
•WARNING: Do not wrap
the cable around the
main body of the toaster
during or after use.
•WARNING: Always
monitor your toaster
whenever it is in use to
prevent it catching fire.
Immediately turn it off at
the mains if there is
significantburning. When
cool examine the source of
the burning and take
appropriate action.
Cleaning and
maintenance
1After use and before
cleaning switch off at the
mains, remove the plug
from the wall socket and
wait for the toaster to cool.
2Wipe the outside of the
toaster with a damp cloth
and dry with another cloth
or tissue.
NEVER use metal polish or
coarse scouring agents and
never immerse your toaster in
anysort of liquid.
NEVER use anypointed or
sharp articles for cleaning the
inside, otherwise the heating
element will be damaged.
NEVER use a brush or push
your fingers or metal objects
down the slots.
Crumb tray
WARNING: Crumbs will
accumulate in the crumb
tray and could catch fire if
not emptied periodically.
When the toaster has
cooled down completely, tap
the sides of the case lightly to
dislodge any crumbs lodged in
the toasting chamber and pull
out the crumb tray ›.Empty
the tray and replace it.
Never operate the toaster
without the crumb tray fitted.

This toaster is guaranteed
for a period of two years from
the date of purchase against
defective materials or faulty
workmanship.
This guarantee is given
subject to the toaster being
used in accordance with the
instructions on the supply
voltage marked on it and to
the usual fair wear and tear
conditions.
The guarantee does not
cover consequential damage
arising out of any failure
acceptable under guarantee,
nor does it cover damage
resulting from misuse, accident
or unauthorised alterations to
the toaster.
Proof of purchase will be
required.
In anycommunication with
the service department, it is
essential to quote the model
and serial number marked on
the base of the toaster.
This guarantee, in no way
diminishes the buyer’s
statutory rights.

Using
1Depress the bread ejection
lever fitoopen the
moving bread guards.
2Place bread in the slots fl
and raise the bread ejection
lever to lower the bread into
the toaster.
• The moving bread guards
will centre the bread in the
slot to ensure even toasting.
• Check that the
single/double sided toasting
switch ¤is set to the
double (left) position (no
embossing).
• Check that the appropriate
slots havebeen selected on
the slot selector ‹.The
slots are numbered from
the left, ie 2 will select the
twoslots on the left of the
toaster.
3Selectthe desired time on
the timer control ⁄marked
1to 5.
• The setting required will
vary according to the
moisturecontentand
thickness of the bread. For
best results ensure that the
bread slices areof even
thickness, freshness and
size. Stale bread toasts
morerapidly than fresh and
thin bread toasts quicker
than thick.
• Tostop cooking, turn the
timer control back to O.
4After the set time has
elapsed the toaster will
switch off. The toast will
remain in the slots to
maximises heat retention
until required.
5To remove the toast,
depress the bread ejection
lever to raise the toast out
of the slots for safe
removal.
Single-sided toasting
To toast one side of the
bread (or bagel or bun) switch
the single/double-sided
toasting switch is in the single
(right) position next to the
embossed vertical line. This line
indicates the side of the bread
that will toast when using the
single-side toasting function.
Optional bun warmer
rack
1Place the bun warmer rack
‡with all four of its feet
securely fitted into the
bread slots of the toaster.
2Place the buns or other
suitable items onto the bun
warmer.
3Set the timer control to the
desired setting.
WARNING: Take care not
to touch the metal of the
bun rack as it will become
very hot.
Optional sandwich
holder
1Place your sandwich in the
sandwich holder ·.

not in use and when

•Do not movethe appliance

Electrical
requirements
Check that the voltage on
the rating plateof your
appliance corresponds with
your electricity supply which
must be A.C. (Alternating
Current).
If the socket outlets in your
kitchen are not suitable for the
plug supplied with the 4- and
6-slot toasters the plug should
be removed and the
appropriate one fitted.
WARNING: The plug
removed from the mains
lead, if severed, must be
destroyed as a plug with a
bared flexible cord is
hazardous if engaged into a
live socket outlet.
Should the fuse in the 13
amp plug require changing a
13 amp BS1362 fuse must be
fitted.
You must use a qualified
electrician to install the 8-slot
(4kW) toaster to an
appropriate (16 amp) supply
with the correct fittings. Do not
fit a 13 amp plug to 8-slot
toaster.
For electrical problems with
the 8-slot toaster please
consult a qualified electrician.

Before use
Operate the toaster
without bread, with the
single/double sided switch set
to the double sided position
and with the room ventilated.
As with all new electric
heating elements, your toaster
emits a ‘new’ smell when it is
first switched on. This is quite
normal.

• Do not let the lead run
across a cooker or hot area
which might damage the
cable.

• Do watch your toaster
during use.

other hot parts during or
after use, use handles or
knobs.

of the Burco Bun Warmer

may damage the toaster
