1 Safety
Prior to handling the machine, this instruction manual should be read and understood.
If anything needs to be clarified, please contact your Busch representative.
Read this manual carefully before use and keep for future reference.
This instruction manual remains valid as long as the customer does not change any-
thing on the product.
The machine is intended for industrial use. It must be handled only by technically
trained personnel.
Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment in accordance with the local
regulations.
The machine has been designed and manufactured according to state-of-the-art meth-
ods. Nevertheless, residual risks may remain. This instruction manual highlights po-
tential hazards where appropriate. Safety notes and warning messages are tagged
with one of the keywords DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION, NOTICE and NOTE as
follows:

2.1 Operating Principle
The machine works on the claw principle.
The MINK is fully air-cooled thanks to an integrated fan in the drive unit.
2.2 Application
Depending on the equipment, the machine is intended for suction of explosive gases
according to the data given on the nameplate of the machine (NP), see Explanation of
ATEX Classification [►6].
Conveying of other media leads to an increased thermal and/or mechanical load on
the machine and is permissible only after a consultation with Busch.
The machine is capable of maintaining ultimate pressure, see Technical Data [►29].
The machine is suitable for continuous operation.
In order to avoid reverse rotation after switching off, the machine is equipped with a
non-return valve (NRV).
Note: The non-return valve (NRV) is no reliable means to prevent suction and shall
not be used as a non-return valve or shut-off valve for the system.
In case the machine shall be maintained after shutdown:
• Provide an additional manual or automatic operated non-return valve in the suction line.
Permitted environmental conditions, see Technical Data [►29].
2.3 Accessories
NOTE
Depending on the ATEX classification of the machine, some of the following accessor-
ies may be mandatory, see ATEX Classifications and Associated Accessories.
2.3.1 Inlet Filter
The inlet filter protects the machine against dust and other solids in the process gas.
The inlet filter is available with a paper or polyester cartridge.

2.4 Explanation of ATEX Classification
Inside: II 3D Ex h IIIB T125°C Dc
Group II, for non-mining applications, in the process gas explosive atmosphere in the
form of a cloud of combustible dust in air not likely to occur in normal operation but, if
it does occur, will persist for a short period only (equipment category 3, for zone 22);
maximum permissible surface temperature for the dust/air mixture in the process gas
greater equal 125 °C
(acc. to EN 50 281-2-1 or IEC 61241-2-1 resp.).
Not for explosive atmospheres consisting of mixtures with air of flammable substances
in the form of gas. Not for potentially explosive atmospheres in the environment.
The use of the supplied inlet filter (IF) with equipotential bonding (ECI) including the
pertinent filter cartridge with equipotential bonding is required.
The approval for use in potentially explosive atmospheres is valid for the va-
cuum pump together with the supplied inlet filter (IF). The approval is void if the
system is altered or if the scheduled maintenance is not complied with. Mainten-
ance must be performed by specifically instructed personnel only.
IIIB = Dust Group, indicates the machine with the supplied inlet filter (IF) is suitable for
dust groups IIIA or IIIB. For dust group IIIC please contact Busch.

Lifting the machine using the motor eye bolt.

• Do not lift the machine using the eye bolt fitted to the motor. Only lift the machine as
shown.
• Make sure that the eyebolt(s) (EB) is/are in faultless condition, fully screwed in and
tightened by hand.

4 Storage
• Seal all apertures with adhesive tape or reuse provided caps.
If the machine is to be stored for more than 3 months:
• Wrap the machine in a corrosion inhibiting film.
• Store the machine indoors, dry, dust free and if possible in original packaging
preferably at temperatures between 0 ... 40 °C.

5.1 Installation Conditions

Other values may apply after Busch approval
• Make sure that the ambient conditions comply with the Technical Data [►29].
• Make sure that the environmental conditions comply with the protection class of the
motor and the electrical instruments.
• Make sure that the installation space or location is vented such that sufficient cool-
ing of the machine is provided.
• Make sure that cooling air inlets and outlets are not covered or obstructed and that
the cooling air flow is not affected adversely in any other way.
• Make sure that the oil sight glass (OSG) remains easily visible.
• Make sure that enough space remains for maintenance work.
• Make sure that the machine is placed or mounted horizontally, a maximum of 1° in
any direction is acceptable.
• Check the oil level, see Oil Level Inspection [►23].
• Make sure that all provided covers, guards, hoods, etc. are mounted.

If the machine is installed at an altitude greater than 1000 meters above sea level:
• Contact your Busch representative, the motor should be derated or the ambient
temperature limited.
If additional electrical components not included in scope of delivery should be added:
• Make sure that they have a better or equal ATEX classification than that of the
machine, see the ATEX marking on the nameplate (NP).
5.2 Connecting Lines / Pipes
WARNING
The connection lines can build up an electrostatic charge.
Risk of severe injury!

• The connection lines must be made out of conductive material or provisions must
be made against creating an electrostatic charge.

• Do not operate the machine without suction / discharge connection installed.
• Remove all protective covers before installation.
• Make sure that the connection lines cause no stress on the machine‘s connection; if
necessary use flexible joints.
• Make sure that the line size of the connection lines over the entire length is at least
as large as the connections of the machine.
In case of very long connection lines it is advisable to use larger line sizes in order to
avoid a loss of efficiency. Seek advice from your Busch representative.
5.2.1 Suction Connection

5.3 Filling Oil

Check oil level
The oil level should stay constant over the lifetime of the oil. If the level does fall, this
indicates a leak and the machine requires repair.
5.4 Earth Connection
In order to prevent the machine from creating an electrostatic charge:
• Connect the earth connection of the machine (ECP)
If an inlet filter (IF) being installed:
• Connect the earth connection of the inlet filter (ECI) in addition to the earth connec-
tion of the machine.

5.5 Electrical Connection
(for Variable-frequency Drive)

Live wires.
Risk of electrical shock.
• Electrical installation work must only be executed by qualified personnel.
• Make sure that the power supply for the drive is compatible with the data on the
nameplate of the variable-frequency drive.
• Make sure that the motor of the machine will not be affected by electric or electro-
magnetic disturbance from the mains; if necessary seek advice from Busch.
• Make sure that the EMC-class of the machine confirms with the requirements of
your supply network system, if necessary provide further interference suppression
(EMC-Class of the machine see Technical Data [►29]).
• We recommend to use gG/gL (IEC 60269-1) (class T for UL/CSA) 25 A fuses. Make
sure that the response time is below 0.4 seconds.
In case of using a residual current protective device:
• Use an all-current sensitive residual current protective device (type B).
• Electrically connect the variable-frequency drive (VFD).
5.5.1 Wiring Diagram Three-Phase Motor

Incorrect direction of rotation.

• Operation in the wrong direction of rotation can destroy the machine in a short time!
Prior to start-up, ensure that the machine is operated in the right direction.
• Determine the intended direction of rotation with the arrow (stuck on or cast).
• Jog the motor briefly.
If the rotation of the motor must be changed:
• Switch any two of the motor phase wires.

The leakage current exceeds 3.5 mA. According to EN 61800-5-1 an additional pro-
tective earth conductor (PE2) must be provided:
• Connect the additional protective earth conductor (PE2). Use at least the same
cross section as for PE.
Installation requirement for protection class IP54:
The cable and gasket must be secured against shifting.
• Use cable-tie or insulation-tape to secure the cable and gasket from shifting.

Lubricating a dry running machine (compression chamber).

• Do not lubricate the compression chamber of the machine with oil or grease.
CAUTION
During operation the surface of the machine may reach temperatures of more than 70°C.

• Avoid contact with the machine during and directly after operation.

If persons are present in the vicinity of a non noise insulated machine over extended
periods:
• Make sure that ear protection is being used.
• Make sure that the installation conditions (see Installation Conditions [►9]) are met.
• Switch on the machine.
NOTICE
Frequent starts and stops by connecting and disconnecting from the power supply.
Risk of damage to the machine!
Starting the machine by connecting and disconnecting the power supply is permitted
max. 1x per minute. Between disconnecting and connecting at least 10 seconds must
have been passed. If the process requires more frequent starts/stops of the machine:
• Use the digital start signal.
• Maximum permissible number of starts by using the digital signal: unlimited

• Measure the motor current and record it as reference for future maintenance
and troubleshooting work.
