Accessories
The following accessories are available for the Bushbox XL
(please see our website www.bushcra-essenals.com):
• Universal Grate Bushbox XL
This grate can be used in many ways. Aached on top of the Bushbox XL it makes an excellent grill
or provides a solid plaorm for smaller pots and cups. In a special posion (half height inside the
Bushbox XL) it makes a perfect base for the use of spirit burners like the Trangia. You can also use
the half height posion for cooking with wood pellets or charcoal, giving reduced fuel consumpon
and beer/constant cooking and grilling temperature over a longer me period (one cup of pellets
should last for about 30 minutes).
• Grill Plate Bushbox XL
This extra large grill plate turns the Bushbox XL into an outdoor grill – or a balcony grill. In any case
it will convert the Bushbox XL into the world‘s smallest grill.
• Trivets (Set) Bushbox XL
Two addional stainless steel trivets for the Bushbox XL. Replacement for the original trivets (which
come with the Bushbox XL) or as addional trivets to be used as Trangia holders. They can also be
used to safely handle the hot Bushbox XL. The Bushbox XL has four holding posions for trivets on
the back panel, two for the trivets which come with the Bushbox and two posions for addional trivets.
• Outdoor Bag Bushbox XL
This bag is made from extremely durable material and has an extra pocket for your re starng kit
or Bushbox XL accessories. It also comes with a sturdy D-Ring, which can be used to aach the bag
to a rucksack etc.
Enjoy your hobo stove!

Mul-Fuel
Although specically made to be used with wood,
the Bushbox XL can be used with many other fuels
– wood pellets (use the Universal Grate), charcoal,
a standard Trangia burner, gel fuel cans, dry ani-
mal dung etc.
Care/Maintenance
Our stoves are high quality products, made from
stainless steel and designed to accompany you
for a very long me. Although they need almost
no care and maintenance, you should keep the
stove free from dirt and clean it from me to me.
Otherwise even stainless steel may appear to rust
– because of the heat metal molecules will accu-
mulate on the outside and oxidize (which results
in blue staining). Flash rust can appear on these
spots. It will not damage the stainless steel and
can be removed easily.
Open Fire
Please use your stove responsibly. Most forest
res and wildres are started by the irresponsib-
le use of re. Always keep a safe distance from
inammable material and make sure you can
exnguish your re at any me. Check and follow
local laws regarding having an open re.
Never leave the stove unaended! Make sure
your stove is being operated on a at, reproof
surface. Only use outdoors! Never touch when
in use – danger of severe burns! Keep out of the
reach of children and animals! Also never use the
stove in enclosed spaces - risk of suocaon!
Bushbox XL Operaon Opons
Trangia Mode
By inserng the trivets (or tent pegs) into the slits/
holes on the sides, the Bushbox XL can be alterna-
vely used with a Trangia burner.
Use of Tent Pegs
Tent pegs can also be used as a grill or as a pot
stand.
Large Pots/Pans
For large pots and pans please use this trivet po-
sion - it provides a safe stand and makes sure
that the pot does not cover the Bushbox XL which
would obstruct the air ow.
Hot Stove Handling
The trivets can be used to handle the hot Bushbox
XL without risking burns.
Welcome to the Bushbox XL
Thank you for purchasing one of our mul-fuel
hobo stoves. We hope you enjoy this high quality
product, made enrely in Germany from stainless
steel. If it comes with a few scratches from produc-
on: We do not polish our products to avoid water
polluon and health risks.
To make your stove a lasng experience, there are
a few things to consider:
Tips & Tricks
You will nd a growing number of great videos from
users of our stoves on YouTube and Facebook. Even
if these are not in your language, they will give you
a few hints about how to use a hobo stove. You can
nd more videos and informaon here:
(do not hesitate to post in English,
we’ll answer in English)

We look forward to seeing your videos and feedback!
Bushbox XL Assembly
Assembly is very simple:
1. Unfold the Bushbox XL.
2. Grab the hinged side panels and pull them
apart.
3. The boom plate and the ash tray will now
automacally fall into posion. This also
stabilises the Bushbox XL, which is now ready
to use.
Bushbox XL Disassembly
1. Let the Bushbox XL cool down!
2. Turn the Bushbox XL upside down and pull
the hinged side panels slightly outwards.
3. The boom plate and ash tray now fall back
and you can fold the Bushbox XL at.
Trivets
The trivets are very versale tools - they will sup-
port your pots and pans in dierent posions,
they can be used to hold a Trangia burner, they
can serve as immersed pot holders and they are
very useful to handle the hot stove without risking
injury (see images). The Bushbox XL has four hol-
ding posions for trivets on the back panel, two
for the trivets which come with the Bushbox XL
and two posions for addional trivets (see ac-
cessories).
Lighng a Fire
If you are not experienced in making a re, you
can nd very useful videos about the subject on
YouTube. Basically: To start a re use birch bark,
feather scks, wood shavings, coon pads or simi-
lar. Gradually add thin material unl you get a nice
re. Then gradually add thicker material. The fuel
for your stove is provided for free from Mother
Nature – dry spruce twigs are great for example.
Never use wood lying on the ground as it will al-
ways be damp (except in arid regions).
Make sure the holes in the boom plate are free
so the stove can “breathe”!
Usage
The underlying principle of a hobo stove is the
stack-eect. Make sure you never completely
cover the upper side – otherwise the re will die
and/or smoke will develop (see image of trivet po-
sion for large pots!).
Also make sure your stove can “breathe” from be-
low. Keep the holes in the base plate free and you
will always have a nice re.
Finally, it is important to make sure you always
have enough fuel (i.e. wood etc.) available to keep
the re burning. Our stoves burn fast and hot, so
the re will die fast if you do not add new mate-
rial. Prepare a sucient supply of material before
you start the re or use longer branches which
can be fed through the aperture (be careful when
using this method, burning material may fall out
and start a wildre).
The Bushbox XL burns to such a high temperature
that almost no ashes (or soot) will be le over.
Larger amounts of ashes, white smoke or soot
are evidence of incorrect use – either because the
Bushbox XL is covered from above or has insu-
cient air supply from below.
