Cable-Tronix CTARM IR Series User manual

Product Description
The CTARM IR series of residential digital
frequency agile modulators allow for the
insertion of multiple video and left and right
audio signals from a variety of devices including
satellite receivers, VCRs, DVD players, and
security cameras on user selected TV channels.
These modulators create a separate TV channel
for each video device, combine the new channels
with cable or broadcast TV channels, and route
the output to all TVs in the home via existing
cable outlets.
The CTARM IR series contain the same high quality features as the CTARM-1, 1LT, 2LT, 3, and 4, but with the
addition of infrared capabilities. This allows a user to view a modulated signal in a location separate from the
location containing the modulator and video source while retaining the ability to change channels on the video
source from the remote location.
Example: A DVD player located in the living room can be modulated on channel 105 so it can be viewed in the
bedroom. The DVD remote can be used in the bedroom to control the DVD player. The remote control signal is
transmitted through the same coaxial cable that carries the RF signal to the bedroom television.
The CTARM-1LTIR, CTARM-2LTIR and CTARM-4IR are respectively Single, dual, and quad input modulators.
Each is housed in a low profile case with channel output selection buttons and LED channel display.
Non-volatile memory is included to remember channel assignments in event of power failure. The IR series
modulators are equipped with a keyhole for wall mounting.
Application
The CTARM LT series of modulators allow consumers to watch what they want from any home TV without
having to pay for extra VCRs, DVD players, cable boxes, satellite receivers, or surveillance monitors. For
those consumers having home theater systems, these modulators preserve stereo audio at the source. The
modulators also allow a consumer to introduce a new “video service” such as home security cameras to their
existing cable system without additional wiring. In this example, a consumer could now monitor the security
camera from a designated channel on any TV in the house at any time.

CTARM IR Series
Residential Digital Agile Modulators
With Infrared Capability
The CTIRE-38 is a 3 input, 8 output video distribution unit with an
integrated IR engine. One input is designed for a CATV or local
antenna signal. The other two inputs are designed for inputs from
modulators. The unit can be powered either from one of the
modulators or from a separate, external power supply. The unit has
a convenient IR output port that can accommodate a single or dual
IR emitter. An internal amplifier provides unity gain to compensate
for the internal eight way split.
The CTIRE-38 is designed to provide a clean, professional
residential installation. By eliminating the need for separate splitters,
combiners and amplifiers the CTIRE-38 will save time during the
initial installation and also avoid the need for costly service calls.
The CTIR-1 and CTIR-2 are single and dual infrared emitters. Each
unit has a 5’ cord with a stereo mini plug. The CTIR series emitters
are both 5 and 12 volt compatible. The IR emitters are placed over
the IR sensor windows on the video device (VCR, DVD, Satellite
Receiver) that needs to be controlled from a remote location. They
must be used in conjunction with an IR target that inserts the IR
remote control commands onto the coaxial cable distribution at the
remote viewing location.
In order to extract the IR signal from the distribution the IR emitter is
plugged into an IR port on any CTARM IR series modulator or the IR
port on the CTIRE-38 video distribution unit.
Tech Tip: Make sure that all of the distribution devices used in the
distribution are IR compatible. This includes all splitters, amplifiers
and whole house distribution systems.
The CTIRT is an infrared target that is inserted in the coaxial cable
line between the wall plate and the television at the remote viewing
location. It is used to insert infrared signals from a remote control
onto the coaxial cable distribution. The infrared commands are then
extracted from the coaxial cable distribution at the centralized
distribution origination. The target is remotely powered by the
Cabletronix CTARM IR series modulators or the CTIRE-38 video
distribution unit. Installation is simple with one coaxial cable input
and one coaxial cable output. The unit is housed in a low profile
case that is hardly noticed at the viewing location. The CTIRT-LED
is also available. This unit has an LED that lights when the target
receives a signal from the remote control.
