INTRODUCTION
Congratulations on purchasing this Cambridge Audio T-Series
Superheterodyne Tuner. It has been custom designed to deliver
maximum listening pleasure together with an unrivalled ease of use
that will provide you with many years of exciting and trouble free
listening. Expect a warm reception!
The T-Series has been developed as a result of the increased demand for
affordable, high quality, full facility tuners and is dedicated for use with the
finest output components. Unlike most similarly priced tuners, and even
thosecostingmuchmore,theT-Serieshasbeenbuiltwithoutcompromise
interms ofcomponent qualityand construction.
Becauseoftheintroductionofnumerousnewradiostationstotheairwaves
thevastmajorityoftoday'stunerssufferfromtheinterferencebreakthrough
ofotherradiofrequencies. Inordertominimisethisreductioninsoundquality
theperformanceofatunerisoftencompromised. Tocombatthisdilemma
theT-Seriesutilisesdouble Superheterodyne technology. Thiseffectively
rejectsallbuttherequiredsignal,allowingthesonicallycriticalstagestobe
optimised. As a result, a crisp, clear and atmospheric soundstage is
achieved with all types of music.
We have worked hard to ensure that your T-Series Tuner is remarkably
simpletouse,howeverbelowthesturdyexteriorthereisanarrayoftechnical
wizardry. TheT-Seriesoffersachoiceofthreewavebands,coupledwiththe
abilitytomemoriseupto29ofyourfavouritestationsinFMandMW(AMfor
USversion)and6inLW. Acustomdesignedrotarycontrolknobofferseasy
selectionofpresetstationstogetherwiththeprecisionrequiredforaccurately
tuning weak signalled stations. The sophisticated auto tuning facility
automaticallysearchesthroughawavebandforyourdesiredstation. Further
featuresincludeatenbarsignalstrengthindicatorandacentraltuningfacility
that ‘locks on’ to the optimum signal for crystal clear reception.
Close attention has also been paid to those audiophile features that are a
rarityintoday’stunerdesignandmanufacture. Includedisthelatest‘blend’
circuitrywhichautomaticallyadjustsstereoseparation,resultinginareception
qualitywiththe least amountofbackground noise. Amultipathingwarning
indicatorwill alsolet youknow thatmultiple signalsof the same station are
being received, thus enabling you to adjust the frequency and locate a
strongertransmission.
To gain the greatest musical rewards from this equipment we would
encourage you to use other high quality components and revealing
loudspeakers. Weparticularlyrecommendamplification from theCambridge
Audiorange,allofwhichhasbeendesignedtothesameexactingstandards
as your T-Series Tuner. Although your Tuner is a very sensitive piece of
equipmentwewouldalsostronglyrecommendthatyouuseanexternalroof-
mountedaerial to maximise performance.
Interconnectsarealsosomethingthatshouldn’tbeforgotten. Pleasedonot
compromiseyoursystem’sperformancebyusingpoorqualityinterconnect
cables to connect this tuner to your amplifier, after all, a system is only as
goodasitsweakest link. For thisreasonwedo notincludecheap“freebie”

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
CHECKING THE POWER SUPPLY SETTING
For your own safety please read the following instructions carefully before
attempting to connect this unit to the mains.
• Check that the rear of your unit indicates the correct supply voltage.
• Ifyour mainssupply voltage is different, consult your dealer.
This unit is designed to operate only on the supply voltage and type that is
indicatedon the rearpanel of the unit. Connecting to other power sources
may damage the unit.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Thisequipmentmustbeswitchedoffwhennotinuseandmustnotbeused
unlesscorrectlyearthed. Toreducetheriskofelectricshock,donotremove
theunit’scover(orback). Therearenouserserviceablepartsinside. Refer
servicing to qualified service personnel. If the power cord is fitted with a
mouldedmainsplugtheunitmustnotbeusediftheplasticfusecarrierisnot
inplace. Shouldyoulosethefusecarrierthecorrectpartmustbereordered
from your Cambridge Audio dealer.
Thelightningflashwiththearrowheadsymbolwithinanequilateral
triangleisintendedtoalerttheusertothepresenceofuninsulated
‘dangerous voltage’ within the product’s enclosure that may
be of sufficient magnitude to constitute a risk of electric
shocktopersons.
Theexclamationpointwithinanequilateraltriangleisintended
to alert the user to the presence of important operating and
maintenanceinstructionsintheserviceliteraturerelevantto
thisappliance.
This product complies with European Low Voltage
(73/23/EEC) and Electromagnetic Compatibility
(89/336/EEC) Directives when used according to this
instruction manual. For continued compliance only

PLUG FITTING INSTRUCTIONS (UK ONLY)
Thecordsuppliedwiththisapplianceisfactoryfitted witha13Amainsplug
fittedwitha3Afuseinside. Ifitisnecessarytochangethefuse,itisimportant
that a 3A one is used. If the plug needs to be changed because it is not
suitable for your socket, or becomes damaged, it should be cut off and an
appropriateplugfittedfollowingthewiringinstructionsbelow. Theplugmust
then be disposed of safely, as insertion into a 13A socket is likely to cause
anelectrical hazard. Should itbe necessary to fit a 3-pin BS mains plug to
the power cord the wires should be fitted as shown in this diagram. The
coloursofthewiresinthemains lead ofthisappliancemaynotcorrespond
withthe coloured markings identifying the terminals inyour plug. Connect
them as follows:-
• Thewire which is coloured BLUE must be
connectedto the terminal whichis marked
with the letter ‘N’ or coloured BLACK.
• ThewirewhichiscolouredBROWNMustbe
connected to the terminal which is marked
with the letter ‘L’ or coloured RED
• The wire which is coloured GREEN/
YELLOWmustbeconnectedtotheterminal
whichismarkedwiththeletter‘E’orcoloured
GREEN.
NOTE: If your model does not have an earth wire, then disregard this
instruction.
If a 13 Amp (BS 1363) plug is used, a 3 Amp fuse must be fitted, or if any
othertypeofplugisused a3Ampor5Ampfusemustbefitted,eitherinthe
plug or adaptor, or on the distribution board.

INSTALLATION
Your T-Series Tuner should be placed on a stable, level surface. Avoid
placing the unit in direct sunlight, near damp or heat sources and in poorly
ventilatedareas.
Neverallowthetunertocomeintocontactwithwaterorotherliquids. Ifthis
occursthenswitchitoffimmediately,disconnectfromthemainssupplyand
contact your dealer for advice.
Do not route the power cable in a position where it can be walked upon or
damaged by other items near it.
Tocleanthetunerswitchoffandremovethemainsplugfromthesupplyand
wipe the case with a slightly moist lint-free cloth. Do not use any cleaning
fluidscontainingalcohol,ammoniaorabrasives. Donotsprayanaerosolat
it or nearby.
Thisequipment isnotuserserviceable. Donotopenthecase. Intheevent
of a problem or failure, please contact your dealer.
Some CD players, other digital equipment and amplifiers with large power
transformers can affect the performance of this product. If this occurs
position your tuner away from products that create interference.
REAR PANEL CONNECTIONS
1. PHONO OUTPUT SOCKETS
Connecttheconventional‘left’and‘right’(LandR)AudioOutputstoany
inputonyouramplifierexcept‘phono’or‘turntable’usingahighquality
interconnectioncable.
2. FM OUTDOOR ANTENNA
We strongly recommend that you install an outdoor FM antenna for
maximumqualityFMreception. Thisshouldbeconnectedwitha75ohm
coaxialcable.
3. AM / FM INDOOR AERIAL
Thesuppliedantennawireissuggestedfortemporaryindooruseonly.
Connecteachendofthe singlelengthantennatotheantennaterminals.
Placetheantennaasfarfromthemainsystemaspossibleandposition
it for optimum reception.
4. AM OUTDOOR ANTENNA
If you receive poor reception through the AM single length indoor
antenna,anAMoutdoorantennaconsistingofalongersinglelengthof
wire of similar type to the AM indoor antenna can be used. This is not
includedin thepackage withyour T-SeriesTuner.
5. IEC POWER CORD INLET
Aftercompletingtheinstallationand alltheconnections,makesurethat
thePOWERswitchonthefrontpaneloftheunitissettoOFF,thenplug
thesuppliedmainscableintothemainsinletandthemainsplugintoyour
mainssupply.
FRONT PANEL CONTROLS
1. POWER BUTTON
Pressthisbuttontoturnthepoweronandpressagaintoturnthepower
off.
2. BAND SELECTION BUTTON
Togglesband selection betweenFM, MW and LW (FM and AM for US
version).
3. SCAN UP / DOWN
Pushbuttonto automaticallyscan between eachusable station.
4. STORE
Allows you to store the frequency of any preset station in the memory
ofyour T-SeriesTuner.
5. MODE
Togglescontroloftherotarycontrolknobbetweenpresetselectionand
manualtuning
6. ROTARY CONTROL
Selectspreset stations ortunes up/downfrequency range.
7. REMOTE SENSOR
Some T-Series Tuners are fitted with a remote ready facility and a
remote handset is available from your Cambridge Audio dealer.

OPERATION
RECEIVING BROADCASTS
This section describes various ways in which to receive radio broadcasts.
BeforeattemptingtheseoperationsbesuretoconnectthenecessaryAMor
FMaerials.
1. Press the POWER button to turn on the tuner.
2. PressBANDtoselecteitherFM,MWorLW(FMorAMforUSversion).
MANUAL TUNING
To manually tune to a station that you know the frequency of:-
1. Press MODE on the front panel so that the preset indicator is off.
2. Turn the ROTARY CONTROL KNOB clockwise to tune higher
frequenciesoranti-clockwisetotunelowerfrequencies. Asyouapproach
thedesiredstationtheCENTRE TUNING INDICATORwillhelp you to
obtainthestation’sbestperformance. Anarrowheadpointingtotheleft
orrightshowsthecorrectwaytoturntherotarycontrolknobtoobtainthe
exacttuningofthestation. Whencorrectlytunedthearrowsdisappear
to be replaced by a single block. The LOCKED indicator will also
illuminateindicatingoptimumtuning.
The LOCKED indicator may not illuminate if the signal is too weak. The
signalstrength ofa station isshown bythe number of bars onthe SIGNAL
strength indicator. The greater the signal strength the more bars will be
visible. Adjusting theaerialposition willmaximise the signalstrength.
AUTO TUNING
Toautomatically search awaveband for stations:-
Press the SCAN >> to tune up or << to tune down the frequency band.
Whenthetunerfindsastationofsufficientstrength theautomatictuningwill
stop at that station and the LOCKED indicator will illuminate.
IfthestationwheretuningstopsisnotdesiredpresstheSCANbuttonagain
untilthestation you requireisfound.
STORING STATIONS IN THE PRESET MEMORY
TheT-SeriesTunercanmemoriseupto29ofyourfavouritestationsonFM
and MW (AM for US version) and 6 stations on LW.
1. Tuneintothe requiredstation usingeitherMANUAL or AUTO TUNE.
2. Press the STORE button. The STORE indicator will start flashing.
3. Turnthe ROTARY CONTROL KNOB until thedesired preset location
numberisreached.
4. HolddowntheSTOREbuttonuntiltheSTOREindicatorstopsflashing.
Thestationwillnowbestoredinthe locationnumberdisplayedontheright
handsideofthedisplay. Whenmemorisingstationsthepresetnumberwill
automaticallyadvance aftereach stationis memorised.
When memorising a station over a previously used preset number the old
stationwill beerased.
LISTENING TO PRESET STATIONS
1. Press the MODE button so that the preset indicator appears.
2. Select the desired preset station by turning the ROTARY CONTROL
KNOB.
MULTIPATHINDICATOR
Illumination of the MP symbol is an indication that the tuner is receiving
multiple signals (Multipathing) of the same station which is likely to cause
unwantedbackgroundnoiseanddistortion. Aqualitydirectionalantennawill
generallyovercomethisoccurrence.
AUTOMATIC BLEND CIRCUITRY
When receiving weak FM stations your T-Series Tuner will automatically
adjuststereoseparationforreceptionwiththeleastamountofbackground
noise. WhenthisfunctionisoperationaltheSTEREOandMONOindicators
areseparatedbyasmallilluminateddiamondicon. Ifthesignalisveryweak
thetuner willswitch automatically into MONO.

TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE
There is no power?
1. Ensure the AC power cord is connected securely.
2. Ensurethattheplugisfullyinsertedintothewallsocketandisswitched
on.
3. Check fuse in the mains plug or adaptor.
There is no sound?
1. Ensureaerialsarecorrectlyconnected.
2. Checkthatthe interconnects areinserted securelyintoyour amplifier.
3. Ensure the amplifier is switched on and that the correct source is
selected.
Unable to tune a station?
1. Checkthe aerial is correctlyconnected.
2. Adjust the position of the aerial to gain a stronger signal.
3. Use an external aerial if you are located in a weak signal area.
4. Fine tune the frequency of the desired station to improve the signal.
Unwanted background noise and interference?
1. Reconnect cables that may have been pulled partially out of their
sockets.
2. Adjust the position or direction of the aerial.
3. Tuneto astation with greatersignal strength.
4. Installa good quality externalaerial for FM broadcasts.
5. Movethetunerawayfromacomputer,television,largeamplifierorother
electricalequipmentthat islikely to produceinterference.
6. Switch off your CD player or other closely located digital equipment.
