Professional Features and Usability
The HG10 features microphone and headphone
terminals for added flexibility. A Quick Start button
conserves power: press to place the camcorder in
standby mode, press again
for immediate use. The Built-
in Ultra Video Light lets you
shoot subjects in color in low
light at distances up to 4.9
feet. A built-in electronic lens cover
automatically opens when the camera
is turned on and closes when turned
off: no dangling lens cover to
lose or get in the way. With the
Advanced Accessory Shoe, you
can expand your capabilities by
attaching accessories like a video
light or directional microphone.
Easy Editing
The HG10 is bundled with a powerful software suite
from Corel (compatible with Windows XP & Vista).
You can easily perform a variety of functions, including
AVCHD Editing in which you can trim, reorder and
combine scenes, as well as add music, titles and
transitions. When finished, you can burn your edited
video onto either a full size AVCHD or Standard
Definition DVD. Also included is a Backup Utility
Disc which will allow you to back up your video
recordings safely onto a computer’s hard disk.

SuperRange Optical Image Stabilizer
Canon’s sophisticated SuperRange
Optical Image Stabilizer corrects camera
shake instantly, avoiding the blur that
can mar hand-held video at long focal
lengths. The system uses an advanced hybrid detec-
tion method and covers a wide range of typical move-
ments to deliver clear, steady footage as well as
sharp still images.

AVCHD Format
The HG10 uses the very
latest standard developed for High Definition: AVCHD.
By compressing video twice as efficiently as conven-
tional methods, the AVCHD standard enables High
Definition video to be recorded on a hard disk drive.
Instant AF
Focus is critical with high resolution
HD video, and Canon’s next-generation Instant AF
technology delivers fast, accurate focus even in
challenging situations. Using an advanced hybrid
control system, Instant AF provides quick, sharp
focus even when shooting at night, in high brightness,
and when following a moving subject.
Convenient Viewing
and Expert Control
You’ll get a superb view of
what you’re shooting with the
camcorder’s big Widescreen
Multi-Angle Vivid LCD. The
picture is clear from any direction,
and color is robust and accurate.
Access the menu and search for
scenes with a fast, easy Navigation Control Dial on
LCD panel. The HG10 has many features designed
to give your movies professional polish. The Focus
Assist Button (for use in manual focus mode) provides
critical video zoom and peaking (enhanced image
contours) to ensure perfect focus. The Level Shot
Control button displays a horizontal marker for level
shooting, and easily visible Grid marker lines help
give your footage proper balance. Variable Zoom
Speed Control has 3 pre-set zoom speeds for per-
fectly controlled zooming.
Advanced Photo Features
The HG10 Camcorder is also an
advanced Canon camera. Capture beautifully detailed
3.1 Megapixel still shots onto a miniSD card. If a
great shot happens while you’re shooting video, sim-
ply press the photo button to record a 2.0 Megapixel
image. With the new Photo Grabbing feature, you
can also “grab” a 2.0 Megapixel still from your
footage just by pressing a button in playback. Other
high-end still camera features include: 9-point AiAF
that sharply focuses even off-center subjects, a
built-in flash for superior shots indoors and in low
light, Histogram Display to give you the brightness
information you need to make adjustments on suc-
cessive shots, and one-touch printing and down-
loading of your images with a Print & Share button.
24p Cinema Mode and
Program AE Mode
24p Cinema Mode ramps up your
creativity, allowing you to achieve a professional film-
like look. Two flexible modes can be used together
or independently. The first lets you match the frame
rate of movie film by setting the camcorder’s frame
rate to 24p. The second is the HG10’s CINE setting,
which adjusts the color and tonal characteristics to
evoke the look and feel of a big-screen movie theater
film. Convenient preset scene modes in Program AE
automatically produce the best exposure for Portrait,
Sports, Night, Snow, Beach, Sunset, Spotlight and
Fireworks.
