Dynamic SuperRange OIS
takes shake correction to a
whole new level. It provides
continuous adjustment
throughout the entire zoom
range to correct an even broader range of
motion. Extra compensation is applied at
wide-angle focal lengths to help eliminate
unwanted vibration common with walking. Powered IS provides
an even higher level of compensation for subtle hand movement
at the telephoto end of the zoom range.
Smart Auto
Smart Auto makes shooting great video easier than
ever before. Using the power of Canon’s DIGIC DV III
Image Processor, the camcorder intelligently detects and
analyzes faces, brightness, color, distance and movement, then
automatically selects the best settings for the scene. Whether
capturing a sunset, a day at the beach, or a fast-paced soccer
game, Smart Auto delivers exceptionally accurate results.
Touch & Track
Touch & Track allows any subject (pets, vehicles, etc.) to be
the focal point of your video simply by selecting it on the
Touch Panel LCD. It continuously tracks your subject while
automatically adjusting focus and exposure.
Genuine Canon Face Detection
The same high quality Face Detection technology
used in Canon digital cameras is available in
Canon VIXIA camcorders. Up to 35 faces can
automatically be detected, and 9 detection frames can be
displayed at one time. It will recognize faces that are turned
down or sideways. In addition, a specific face may be selected
as the main subject for continuous tracking. Playback also
allows you to access specific scenes based on faces.

Canon DIGIC DV III Image Processor
DIGIC DV III is Canon’s most
advanced HD image processor
ever, helping to deliver enhanced image
quality, true color production for both video
and photos, and a sophisticated noise reduction system for
exceptional low-light performance. It is also the high-speed
engine which powers a variety of Canon technologies including
Genuine Canon Face Detection, Smart Auto and 8.0-megapixel
photo capture, and Cinema-Look Filters.
Instant Autofocus
Sharp focus is crucial when shooting high
definition video. Canon’s proprietary Instant Autofocus system
delivers fast, accurate focus, even when you’re shooting in
bright light, at night, or with the camera in motion. The revolu-
tionary hybrid system combines an external sensor with
Canon’s proven high-performance through-the-lens AF system.
It uses both phase difference detection and the CMOS image
sensor to dramatically decrease focusing time and help ensure
consistently sharp video.
Canon HD CMOS Pro Image Sensor
Select VIXIA camcorders feature the
Canon HD CMOS Pro Image Sensor,
a 1/3-inch native 1920 x 1080 image
sensor that incorporates the same proven
technology at the heart of Canon’s pro-grade camcorders. The
HD CMOS Pro Image Sensor defies convention: using fewer
pixels than typical consumer camcorder sensors, it delivers far
superior video performance.
Outstanding Video Resolution – The effective number of
pixels in the HD CMOS Pro sensor is exactly equal to 1920 x 1080,
the resolution of Full High Definition video. Since resizing is
not needed, Full HD video is recorded with exceptionally high
resolution.
Superb Low-Light Performance – Because there are no more
pixels than needed to capture Full
HD, each pixel site is larger and
more sensitive to light. This makes it
possible to capture high-quality
video even in dim lighting.
Wide Dynamic Range – The larger pixel area also enables
more light to be stored, making it possible to detect and
capture a wider range of tonal
values. Both highlights and shadows
are thus reproduced more accurately,
and skin tones are captured with fine
gradation.
