
USER GUIDE: COMFORT VALUE Toileting Sling (CVT)

1. APPLICATION
The service user requires core strength to be able to use the COMFORT VALUE Toileting sling (CVT)
safely and a risk assessment should be taken before prescribing the sling. The CVT sling has safety
features such as a non-slip panel in the back and a hook and loop belt and clunk click buckle
fastening. The fabric is fast drying and drains well, the sling can be used in wet and dry
environments.
Attachment type: Loop fixing.
2. SAFETY
Only people trained and assessed as competent should ever use hoists and slings.
CVT slings come in four sizes. Ensure that you select the correct size for the comfort and safety of
the person being transferred.
Follow the wash care instructions carefully and never use bleach.
Slings must be thoroughly examined for safety by a competent person every six months or more
frequently if the competent person deems it to be necessary.

3. SLING INSPECTION (SWL)
3.1 Care & Independence slings are designed and manufactured to meet or exceed BS EN 10535:2006
Hoists for the transfer of disabled persons.
3.2 The maximum weight load is 200kg.
3.2 Slings should be inspected prior to use and after washing. The sling should be checked for the
following:
Stitching becoming undone, frayed, broken with special attention to the critical points such
as tape attachment and lifting loops.
Any signs of damage to the fabric such as tearing undue wear or miss-shaped
Signs of discolouring or bleaching of the material
All the label clearly legible
All parts of the sling complete
4. COMPATIBILITY
4.1 Care & Independence slings have been manufactured to work with most of the major hoist
manufacturers’ equipment. A compatibility statement is available on request.
4.2 A risk assessment must be completed before using the sling, even if the hoist and sling is provided
from the same manufacturer.
